  1. Official NDs filters https://store.insta360.com/product/ace-pro-nd-filter-set?c=2649&from=accessory For example motorsports (Cars, Buggy, etc) applications is where you want to disable digital stabilization and add ND filter. Nothing worse than stabilization correcting the car movements and lack of motion blur. Inferior DR did you see a scientific test that measure the stops, if yes can you please post it as I'm curious. You seem to be very knowledgeable but your examples that you post are not what I would call "action" so not sure that claiming that this is not an action cam feels right. In between the avalanche of useless YT review there are some pieces that show the potential of the camera. From what I could see so far: Gopro 12 + 10 bit log + MAX LENS MOD (this for POV makes a big difference) + integrated mounting + a bit lighter + replaceable lens + 2.7k 240 + a bit better stabilization Insta360 Ace Pro + overall, it seems a bit better image quality. + low light + 2x "lossless crop" + 8k 24 (wish was at least 25) + better software + stats from Apple Watch + HDR mode seems more usable. In daylight it seems to me that the RS 1inch is still the best one and is now quite old.

    DJI Pocket 3?

Marty, it's a democratic piazza, they choose those thumbnails and we have to deal with the times we live in : ) Here's one from the capital of my country more exactly the neighbourhood where I lived 25 years ago along those years in the first academic year at the film school and it's a bit curious now to the eyes of people used to dream on digital prelude to come by then: Hope the thumbnail may adjust the taste of everyone but much wider this time... : D

  3. Thanks to you guys I don't click on YouTube links to consume 15 minutes of bad journalism. I'm deeply grateful.

  4. One of the weirder moves in the YouTube sphere lately. Prob some kind of lawsuit by an ex-employee or something, seeing the way the channel imploded was not amicable at all. Management, talent, producers, the new guys. It was all really embarrassing considering they were one of the premier tech channels out here. They basically deleted their history as a brand (no one really visits their site, and if they did it was thanks to the YT channel). We'll see.

  5. In my field of work I couldn't get the Z8, even if it wouldn't overheat, but it's the batteries for me that sealed the deal. I used a Z6 for enough time and worrying about taking extra batteries on a 3 hour shoot and interrupting video recording to replace a battery. I was ready to move to the big boy. I'm not a hardcore professional but even now as just a hobbyist I need the Z9 more and multiple times I've had to switch to the vertical shooting position with my 200-500 and twisting my hands with the same lens on the Z6 was enough for me to realize that there is a better way. And now I only have 2 18C batteries with me. 1 is enough to cover a day with ON/OFF 8.3K RAW video recording.

  7. Thanks for the promotion to colourist @markr041! It seems like we need to get a handle on what the relative strengths and weaknesses are across the options. Certainly, lower DR in a camera used to record outdoors in uncontrolled conditions with a wide-angle lens likely to have the sun in-shot is a long way from the ideal situation... and just for your information, I am currently revising my setup to include a second camera to my GX85 because I want something with more DR for exactly these reasons. Realistically it's going to depend on what you're shooting and how that aligns with the relative strengths/weaknesses of the different models. So far we have what... iPhone 15, GoPro 12, Insta360 Ace (Pro), DJI Osmo Pocket 3, and DJI Osmo Action. Are there others in this fixed-lens / super-compact / small-sensor market segment?

  9. If you are paying 💰 sure, but actually, nah, as a set up, too big, too heavy and I don’t need 4 Nikon cameras. All I need is my faux vintage camera, a single Z8 and if flipping entirely over to Nikon for everything, then a single Z6iii. And if a Z6iii is not available and in my hands by end of March 2024, then I will be sticking with my L Mount set up for all things video. And what if Lumix pop out an S2H or S2R in the meantime? It won’t make any difference. Maybe one day down the line, but at least not in 2024 because it’s lens choices that are primarily driving my decisions. L Mount has great glass, but not for the way I work. Not without big compromise and that’s what I am sick to death of, - trying to work around it and being continually frustrated all season long. Brand affiliation is way down my list of important factors. This is a case of which tools are best suited to my specific need within a specific budget. Right now, there are two options. I’d rather go all in with one single brand (in my case single camera brand Nikon and adapted lenses from Tamron) but 99% as happy to stick with a Lumix/Sigma plus Nikon/Tamron for 2024.

  10. Indeed! Good luck with this, though I'm not optimistic.

    Panasonic G9 mk2

You can get the Sigma 40mm f1.4 ART in L mount but in terms of it being a pancake… well it is if you like your pancakes in this sort of quantity.

  12. Funnily enough, I was mocked on here not so long ago for suggesting any of that trivial shit was required so I was keeping it simple. Not to mention being in keeping with the other thread on here about making a "real" movie with a cheap camera.

  13. And budget for several lighting trucks. And budget for a six figure sound package. And budget for all the crew, and actors. And feeding them. And budget for all the locations. Yiiiikes, that doco starts out harsh "There is no reason this shot ever has a boom shadow", the director shouts while pointing an angry finger at the Boom Op. Poor guy
