You'd be amazed at the number of folks that drop into the forums, ask a question, and then: never answer follow-up questions and are never seen again argue with all the people trying to help them supply critical information many many pages later, despite having been asked directly along the way participate in the discussion nicely, then go out and buy the a wrong camera that was eliminated in the discussion, then complain about it because it has all these issues that everyone warned them about Hardly anyone even says 'thank you' either. This is why experts burn-out from posting on forums - the trail of people who ask for help and then fight every inch of the process to try and provide the help they asked for.4 points

It sounds like you missed the point. I didn't post the video saying that it was an example of great image quality, I posted it to make the point that a lot of the techniques being used in cinema are also being used for creative YouTube videos. This entire discussion has been about if film-making should be more or less realistic, and the point that many of us have been making is that almost all of the tools and techniques used in cinema deliberately make things less realistic. The video I posted was an example of many techniques that improve the creative aspects, but make the end result less realistic, including: cutting up clips into sequences that aren't 'continuity editing' but are more emotive combining multiple images at a time (e.g. the top-down shot in the bedroom) splicing in audio clips that were recorded at a different time than the visual being shown overlapping audio clips and other foley and SFX to create a creative rather than realistic sound design non-realistic colour grading filming insert shots (like the hanging of the clothes in the closet) for the purpose of association rather than limiting the edit to 'real' events production design techniques like use of lighting and light modifiers, smoke machines, etc in-camera visual effects like the top-down shot of the medium format camera etc. there are likely lots more, these are just the things I could name off the top of my head From this perspective, such a video is an example of a great many techniques that are employed by film-makers to make the finished product more appealing, but do so specifically by making the end result less realistic. You didn't like it, and that's fine, but my point was that there are deliberately non-realistic techniques being used on YT and the example shows a variety of them in use. It didn't share it because I thought everyone would like it, it was an example to discuss the techniques.2 points

If you give GFX 100 II's for Christmas presents to your spouse, I think a number of members of this forum are going to try to woo you away from your wife!1 point -

I think I’ve said thank you several times in this thread as I do greatly appreciate the information and lively discussion. Sometimes the experts you refer to don’t take kindly to the person asking for help questioning their advice. I’ve seen this many times on other forums. Human nature, I guess. After ordering the GFX100 II, I had lingering mixed feelings. I really wanted a cinema camera and the GFX100 was a compromise advocated mainly by my wife, who herself prefers stills over video. So I did something that was very logical (for me anyway): I ordered a Canon C300 MkIII + PL mount. I’ll give the GFX to my wife for Christmas and use the Canon myself.1 point -
Just when you thought the Z mount could not get any more adaptable, along comes an adapter to let you mount Fuji X lenses on your Z mount camera with full AF, aperture and OIS functionality. Price is around $299 and available on back order / pre-order from Amazon. APS-C only of course. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BORYOZA-Adapter-Fujifilm-Micro-Z-Mount/dp/B0CPBRTMTX1 point

Sorry posted at the same time. I always try and buy lenses etc 2nd hand so yes new prices will be much higher. I think whichever camera you choose will be great there isn't that much between them all. Just feel that the S5ii is the best deal at the moment and size and weight wise it is about right if you plan to use long zoom lenses handheld. And that IBIS is amazing1 point -
I thought we talking Titanic. FYI Hobbit was shot 48fps but with a 270deg shutter.1 point

Me too @kye... And @eatstoomuchjam BTW, I meant 12K. There's no room for further updates, the only choice there it is not fail on the chosen configuration to buy. No room for 2nd chance once purchased. Yes, Q0 will demand for more resources but also 12K @ 75 fps going with Ursa Mini Pro 12K 2.4:1 as for instance... I wonder when the things will become choppy versus the use from internal SSD.1 point

Thoughts on Nikon Z9/Z8 vs. Canon R3/R5(c)?

You need to go to the custom settings menu and the g settings (video). There is a setting where you can assign the hi-res zoom to a pair of custom function buttons (such as Fn1 to zoom in and Fn2 to zoom out). You can also adjust the zoom speed. In addition to buttons on the camera itself, it's possible to control the zoom from the remote video grip that Nikon makes. The main limitation of the high-res zoom is that it limits the AF area to a central wide area of the frame. You can't move the box off center or control how big it is. So you lose some control over the autofocus. Subject detection is available though. I guess the limitation is because the box sizes are tied to the phase-detection sensor positions and those positions with the zoomed-in frame would then change as you zoom. But other than that I like the feature.1 point -

i had to postpone because i got sick and meanwhile i realize that i don't want to buy that s5iix only because it is a bargain. Lenses are expensive and big, also the body is big..so to have a bulky set i 'll finish spend more than my budget anyway. Then there is the crop at 50/60. Also one of the best feature, usb recording, i amnot going to use because it will need a rig! I want a light and quick setup, an that is not. Eventually is a deal i should have done with a very suspicious person... So xs20 or fx30 remains as choices1 point -

You can't upgrade an existing Mac, so its a matter of buying the one you want. ie, "upgrading" what you're purchasing. It depends on what you mean by "high resolution". Here's the speedtest I just did on my 2020 MBP internal SSD. It's not state of the art by a long-shot, but as you can see it's green across the board for all the codecs, including 4K60 in CinemaDNG. Looking at the data rates from the UMP 12K the highest ones for 12K 24p are 578MB/s for BRAW 5:1 and up to 1156MB/s for Q0, so in theory those should work fine too. You'd want to have a decent amount of headroom of course, but I suspect that having enough processing power is more likely to be the challenge rather than the speed of your SSD.1 point
