World's smallest DSLM that shoots 4k?
Gesmi and one other reacted to John Matthews for a topic
The workflow I've found is either shoot in "4k Photo" at 30fps, which is fine most of the time. Everything will be manual in this mode when set to "M". Otherwise, do the following: Turn on flicker reduction to 1/50. Put it into 4k photo mode(you'll get the framing correct) with dial on Shutter priority (set it at 1/50). Adjust the exposure with exposure compensation. You can also use a grey card. Half-press the shutter button (this will be the ISO and aperture settings in "P Mode" if you hit the video record button). You can adjust a VND filter if necessary. Now, how do you get the camera to stop adjusting? Map a function button to AEL. This will lock in the exposure but only after you start recording. Your shutter, aperture, and ISO are now locked. Use manual focus with touch and lock. Personally, I've found that "4K Photo" mode works best and is the most usable, especially for 30fps if you need consistent exposure every time. Otherwise, set the desired fps and put it into "P Mode" and just not stress about it. It does a great job. Use the AEL to lock in the exposure so it doesn't change. Prior to the GX850, you couldn't use the AEL in video mode (exceptions?, maybe GF7).2 points -
My GF3 is like this - full auto in video mode. A "cheat" workflow I developed is this: Put camera into full-manual mode, base ISO and 180 shutter Using a fully manual lens, set desired aperture / focus / ND to get correct exposure Hit dedicated video record button The camera will then automatically adjust ISO and SS, preferring longer SS until at 360 shutter before raising ISO above base ISO, so it will stay around the right settings. It will still be doing auto-WB too, but you can't have everything 🙂2 points

On the gx800, if you're happy with 4k30p, you can use '4k photo' mode to shoot video with PASM control. Also you can use the 'flicker reduction' menu setting to fix the shutter speed to 1/120, 1/100, 1/60 or 1/50 in normal video mode.2 points

I've also decided to opt out. The problem with these engineering technical I read it on the internet types and have an opinion clowns is that they are demonstrably wrong. Even when you point it out to them they seem to ignore that and move onto their next tightly held narrow idea. They post opinions as fact and only demonstrate what they do not know or understand. I've stopped bothering to point out their misinformation. I think the rest of the posters here understand where they are off on their own. Even in the last two pages they've made some really stupid claims without understanding filmmaking fundamentals. They won't even know what I'm alluding to, but it shows that they have only a little understanding of the technology. Just like one thought Titanic was shot HFR. Why bother if they don't want to truly learn or understand.2 points

Is this another specifications-only thread? Or is there some point to it? Are you looking to buy one? If so, please provide information about what you want and what your requirements are. If not, why are you asking? Otherwise there's no point and it'll be yet another thread where the participants don't even agree what the fundamental goal is that is trying to be achieved, and it'll be like asking my wife about something and the only answer you get is that she wants the red one because it goes with the interior decorating.1 point

Please no more action cam spam...
The Dancing Babamef reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Recently there's been a lot of action cam posts on the forum, and I'd like to take the focus back to cinema. The action cam stuff and GoPro is a very different type of tool and belongs in a different place. So I kindly request @Emanuel that you stop with all the frequent outlinks to drones and action cams, and the very spammy YouTube content. Thank you.1 point -

If size and weight are of max importance, the GX850 is a good choice unless you need easy manual exposure in video; otherwise, I think the Olympus options are better than the GX85. The lightest one with great features would be the E-P7 at 337g. It has full-sensor readout (5.6k-ish downsampled) and better contrast-based AF, but no EVF. I've decided that I'd rather have less weight than a crappy EVF like on the G100 (atrocious) and GX85 (poor).1 point -

Yes, @JulioD the most interesting thing I have learned from this discussion is that I am not the only person still shooting ML Raw.1 point

Gx800 and Gf7 have all auto only in video iirc. So I would suggest GX85 as an answer if we are talking about a mature video mode .1 point -
24p is outdated
John Matthews reacted to kye for a topic
It's a subtle thing - shooting 24p won't make something instantly cinematic or larger than life. The 'recipe' for making something look cinematic or larger than life (or any of the other dozens of ways to describe it) is that you need to do everything in a way to emphasise that experience. Everything from the writing to the acting to the lighting to the framing to the production design to the editing to the colour grading to the sound design to the mastering to the way that the finished product is viewed. They all matter, otherwise the studios would simply not pay for them. The cinematic look is a feeling you create inside the viewer by making 1000 small decisions about every aspect of the whole process.1 point -

24p is outdated
solovetski reacted to kye for a topic
Like @mercer has said, this is ridiculous. There's two people in this thread who are making post after post about how 24p is old and wrong etc, and then there's the entire industry spending trillions of dollars a year shooting films and who have access to any camera they want and could shoot in any frame rate they liked, and yet they select 24p. So, who is right? Two internet keyboard warriors, or the entire worlds entertainment industry? Please. We did a survey, and you didn't win this "debate".1 point -

I have no idea what you’re trying to say here. May I make a suggestion? Try writing your responses in your native language and run them through the Google translator to translate them to English. It’s worth a try.-1 points
