uncompressed external recorder?
Tim Sewell and 2 others reacted to BTM_Pix for a topic
Make sure you get one that can record non-compressed up to 84958p as you wouldn't want to be tied to any outdated format. Also ensure it adds LOL to the metadata at the end of each recording.3 points -
Yada, yada, yada - 24 fps looks great and that's why it's still 99.9999% of filmmakers choice even if they aren't technologically limited to use it. At the same time we are still limited to 50/60p, should higher frame rate is needed, but... ....look at this (the effect is especially noticeable when viewed full screen): For comparison, same director. Isn't it obvious? Here is Gemini Man in 24p if anyone would like to compare: _ Yet interestingly, Gemini Man was shot in 120p. Would really love to see for curiosity sake but it's not available anywhere in 120fps. Is there even a video player that can play 120fps in real time, available at all in 2023?2 points

i want to bypass af100's internal avchd 24mbps weak codec. i already have inferno, ki mini, nano flash, i want to try uncompressed to see how much it can improve the grading.2 points

World's smallest DSLM that shoots 4k?
John Matthews and one other reacted to PannySVHS for a topic
Never had an EP7 but it seems pretty nice. GX85 has the perfect form factor and usuability for me. Crop in 4K allows me to use some super fun C mount lenses, as it's between S16 and mft size sensor. Used ones go for around 250 Euro. Hard to beat quality vs price ratio. GX800 manual mode for 25p sounds indeed fiddly. I would have to try it out myself but then I would just rather take my GX85. 😊2 points -

Just because something has been invented doesn't mean it can't be improved. Like the wheel. This is probably what it looked like right after it was invented. Can you imagine what today would be like if the wheel was never improved? We'd all be driving horse carts with wheels sliced from the cross-section of a tree trunk.1 point -
Talking about the AF100 is fun though. @webrunner5 still has one. But he might get worried about the latest hot trend of interactions on our beloved forum, whereas interaction would be a bit of an euphemistic term.:) Nanoflash on the F3 has brought 8bit 150mbps to the table but no real world benefit over internal regarding several accounts. At least AF100 and external recording with nano flash was tested and approved by the makers of The Raid and I don't have my own experience to question their decision over internal AVCHD. Would love to rewatch it on Bluray.1 point

None. Closest would be a 10bit Shlony apsc. So again, 10bit HLG GX camera with 4K from full sensor and perfect HD quality for the launch price of the GX85, 799 Usd, 699 Euro. Please 😊1 point

@zlfan with the due respect and pretty friendly... what else? ; ) Please let this community know WTH of shit you're smoking? : D I'm saying this 'cause people respond to you and you insist on the same argument as before like going on circles... LOL You obviously don't read the replies you ask, as a lot of others among us have expressed such concern about so particular world of your own, dude... : P1 point

World's smallest DSLM that shoots 4k?
PannySVHS reacted to John Matthews for a topic
Do you know of any Cameras the size of the GX85 that shoot with those specs? The OM5 shoots in C4k at 200mbps in a variable bitrate; so, it should be possible but it's not 10bit.1 point -
Use your nano flash. It was used on one of the best martial arts films of the last decade. AF100 at its best. AF 100 spits out 8bit 422 only afaik, AF100A supposely 9bit. CineD would already be tuned to sensors max dynamic range. That camera has mojo for sure. Friend of mine is doing some magical stuff with it. That coming from a nerds perspective of course. Established camera pros in the narrative field don't talk this kinda talk, as they don't have time or interest in debating 8bit niche cameras of the past. But I always love to. Internal Cinealta F3 might smoke external AF100 though in tech specs and quality but AF certainly has its own mojo beyond that.1 point

I really enjoyed the GX80 when I had it. It was, in my opinion, the absolute best value proposition Lumix has ever made in the given situation in 2016. Its output still looks great in 2023 (and beyond for that matter). In 2016, Lumix had some serious mojo with this camera and I was expecting great things. Unfortunately, the ONE thing they needed to do didn't become a reality until late 2023 in M43. Let's hope they get back on the right track. The ONE thing, right NOW, in 2023-2024 is to release a M43 camera that is small, PDAF, full-sensor readout camera. It's not a priority anymore, but retro-priority, meaning it should have already been done. If Olympus could do it in 2019 in a E-M5 iii at 414g (lighter than a GX80 and WAY better EVF + WEATHER-SEALED), my expectations are under 400g and 4k 60fps or better. I'd also be happy with a 270g update to the GX850 or LX10. I want PDAF, G100-style updated IBIS (which wasn't that bad) with full-sensor readout, manual video mode, better audio quality and better thermals (longer than 5 minute recording in 4k). Do not change the screen. Do not change the look. Don't care about 10 bit. Don't care about lack of anti-aliasing filter. Don't care about LOG. Don't care about 4k60.1 point -

I've also decided to opt out. The problem with these engineering technical I read it on the internet types and have an opinion clowns is that they are demonstrably wrong. Even when you point it out to them they seem to ignore that and move onto their next tightly held narrow idea. They post opinions as fact and only demonstrate what they do not know or understand. I've stopped bothering to point out their misinformation. I think the rest of the posters here understand where they are off on their own. Even in the last two pages they've made some really stupid claims without understanding filmmaking fundamentals. They won't even know what I'm alluding to, but it shows that they have only a little understanding of the technology. Just like one thought Titanic was shot HFR. Why bother if they don't want to truly learn or understand.1 point

Do you know what else is outdated? Manual focus. It's so slow, man, it drives me nuts! This is 2023, not 1923! My iPhone can focus faster than any ALEXA, so what's up with that? Autofocus is true cinema and anyone telling you otherwise is just trying to keep their job as a focus puller or living in the past. Engineers are with me, let's go!1 point -
Poor man / DIY from Grimor industries 🤣🤣 It's a gardener Stilh Harness (with 90° aluminum tube) and a cheap rope ratchet with upgraded cord. I buy all the parts for under 100 euros and you can adjust rope length with just one hand. Never use the real easyrig thing, but I think the main difference is mine has no suspension mechanism.1 point

Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
Walter H reacted to ade towell for a topic
I think the low DR with the video on Canon mirrorless cameras is also quite disappointing if you're coming from Panasonic - have gone from Canon R6 to the Panasonic S5ii and the increase in DR is noticeable. Had to use the S5ii alongside a Canon R5 recently and the Canon was struggling to keep up. Not sure if DR has been improved in the R3 but I doubt it1 point -
We all know hacked GH2's have better picture quality than an AF100 - so if these guys can pull off a decent movie for a measly (considering) $1.1 mill - there really are no excuses these days.
Yes, the acid test for every motion cam: ACTION. The heart of it all is in the middle between one frame (a still camera for landscapes and flowers) and 50 fps (the sunday filmers speed control): 24 fps. Can we handle speed? But you are wrong: We always find excuses ...1 point
