43rumours reports that on Jan 30th, OM SYSTEMS will announce: OM-1II 9-18mm II 150-600mm f/5.0-6.3 The article has more details, and also linked to this video. Anyone interested in these things?1 point

Maybe Andrew could check the IP addresses and answer that. Your knowledge is amazing. How did you know about the infamous doctor?1 point

Ironically, in 1971 Leica forced Olympus to change the name of their 35mm SLR from M1 to OM1... the cycle continues.1 point

I think a small proportion of camera owners are just generally skittish/followers of fashion, whereas most users buy a camera and only consider changing it when it breaks or no longer meets their requirements (which could be for performance/size/weight/fashion reasons among others). Based on what I've seen at camera store 'open days' and exhibitions, Olympus/OMDS does have good brand loyalty but it's a bit of a niche user base of outdoors types (especially wildlife photographers) and those who like small/light cameras. I've never felt that Lumix has that sort of brand loyalty (other than in the 'more serious' video niche market maybe) - it's the 'high on features at reasonable prices' area that Panasonic has historically appeared to be targeting. I'm probably about to become primarily an Olympus/OMDS camera user, after being basically a Panasonic 'hybrid' camera user for years (starting with a TZ7/ZS3 compact 15 years ago). It's mostly because I like the ergonomics of the E-M1 iii and OM-1 better than those of the G9 - even though that has better video quality. Not something I'd ever thought might happen a few years ago... (The difficult decision is - do I keep the GX80? My G80 is already basically redundant. If both go then my only Panasonic camera will be the G9. Also, do I replace both GX80 & G80 with an OM-5 to keep a relatively small/light m43 body?)1 point

I’m working on a new reel and website. I had a weird year. Jan 23: got fired from my full time job feb - sept 23: got fairly depressed due to being rejected after around 350 job applications. at the same time i tried out freelancing while searching for a new job, done a little decently paid corporate work, a lot of barely paid and unpaid work as a dp, gaffer or colorist on short films and music videos. oct - dec 23: got lucky due to a cinematography bootcamp i followed and ended up working as a DIT on a feature. income wise it ended up being almost the same as 2022, so hopefully the freelancing thing will pick up more steam. I’m going to try making some spec ads with some directors i know this year, so we could get work that way.1 point

I would guestimate, not less than 2000 and not more than 2500 dollars. Everywhere else in the world, more. As per. The strong rumour is it’s going up in size & build to between the Z6ii and Z8 so both of those factors will command a premium. Obviously it has to go up in spec or folks will moan, if not have complete meltdowns. It won’t have all the Z8 spec because it can’t and the biggest question (for me anyway) is whether it will have the old 24mp sensor, the 33mp from the Sony A7iv, or something else. Personally I think they would sell more if it’s the 33, but… That could also help command more of a premium and push it towards $2500. I’m not paying above 2.5k for one regardless of what it is or has as the current model has all I need for my intended purpose. If it’s within the range above and in time, I’m going to give it a hard look at the very least in case there is something that either might cause me to rearrange my plans slightly or warrants spending what would then be an extra €1000+, but I doubt that will be the case. Never say never, but I could be tempted and it’s not a stupid amount to spend compared with say a Z8 (which I am not massively keen on) or a Z9 which is a bit overkill, but I really like.1 point

One of the weirder moves in the YouTube sphere lately. Prob some kind of lawsuit by an ex-employee or something, seeing the way the channel imploded was not amicable at all. Management, talent, producers, the new guys. It was all really embarrassing considering they were one of the premier tech channels out here. They basically deleted their history as a brand (no one really visits their site, and if they did it was thanks to the YT channel). We'll see.1 point -

Ok, so this thread reminds me of when I was young and we were going through all of my dad's old slides and we came across one where, well... it wasn't so much a selfie as it was really him just not sure which end of the camera to look through when taking a photo.1 point -
No need to apologise.. unless you represent the sun, that is It's a strange thing, but the sun here in WA is stronger than on the east coast, and the Aussie sun is stronger than elsewhere, like Europe or Asia. My skin is fair, but I could go out in the sun for an hour or so when I was in Italy and not get burnt, but here it's like 10 minutes. I've gotten burnt wearing a wide-brimmed hat sitting in a chair on the side of a grass sports field, which is completely ridiculous. Anyway, isn't it your turn to post a selfie? I have a vague recollection you might have posted one before at some point...? Great pic. Nothing broken in your lighting or composition skills!1 point

This is from commuting to work at sunrise and home again in late afternoon, standing in the shade when waiting for buses, and not going anywhere outside in-between. I'm not sure where I'm meant to be wearing that hat. My indoor lighting isn't that powerful!!1 point

Easy. Just pick the one that looks most like you playing the lead in an Indy film called Modern Ninja where you are John Normal, a man who achieves invisibility through being unremarkable and where special skills are centred around his ability to talk about local sporting events, a passionate love but mediocre understanding of politics and global affairs, and traditional and slightly close-minded values.1 point

Does This count as a selfie??? I was on a job (real estate photography) and I had climbed to the top of the backyard to photograph the view. Unfortunately, it had rained earlier in the morning and when coming back down I slipped and fell on my keister. My new(ish) Panasonic S1 - which I was holding - fired off a shot at the moment of impact with the ground. I do NOT recommend doing this.1 point -
