  1. Well yes, they spent the last few years making an 8K full frame camera, so it's implicit to me that going for 16mm size was for economic reasons and that their goal is larger format. Nothing wrong with that, in fact, many camera companies started with small sensor, simple cameras (Z Cam E1, BMCC 2.5k) before earning the credibility to sell more expensive, feature-rich models (F6 Pro, BM 12k). I read a comment years ago that the 8K LF model was going to be $13k or something. Presumably they realized that their 8K LF dream might not work out on a first model. (I've been checking on Octopus every few months since the announcement in 2019, so at one point or another I've seen most of their posts and comments)

  2. From Newsshooter.com (https://www.newsshooter.com/2024/02/02/octopus16-pocket-sized-super-16-cinema-camera-for-under-1000-usd/) "According to Octopus Cinema, with the increasing competition in the cinema camera market, the primary goal of the OCTOPUS CAMERA is to fill a gap in the market where users require a specific product for a specific application. These specific features include native monochrome sensor imaging and a fully open SDK to extend and embed custom behaviour in the camera. The camera is not being targeted as a competitor against most other digital cinema cameras that are already on the market." It sound Strange. It almost sounds like they do not want to make a 16mm cinema camera.

  4. I recently shot this cover song and music video in 8K RAW on the R5C with a Great Joy 1.8x Anamorphic (50mm). My daughter sings here and I recorded the music, so I was occupied with a lot of things aside from the camera. Having said that, the camera performs really well for what it is and is a great addition for those who already own Canon glass. It's not going to replace a proper cinema camera in terms of the best DR or latitude, but it is an amazing tool and the in-camera anamorphic de-squeeze is a priceless feature. The video is uploaded in 8K so choose that for best quality:

  6. After years of testing (I own a Digital Bolex) the closest thing to it is the BMMCC (Micro Cinema Camera) It has the least amount of rolling shutter (around 13ms) and the best IQ among the BMPCC, BMCC, and the BMPC 4K. You need to pair it with a RAWLITE filter (possibly latest edition). Something more convenient, but not that close, though slightly closer because of even less rolling shutter, is the BMPCC 4K in S16 crop, with RAWLITE filter v2 installed (get a magenta shift which I personally like compared to the greenish/brownish tint of BM camera which I hate). Sigma fp series get very reach colors, but rolling shutter is a pain. So, to recap, BMMCC and BMPCC 4K in s16 mode come closer to the Bolex look.

  7. Yeah, it's with 1.30x. Anything 1.24x and lower is definitely skipped in 12bit mode. Sigma's fp lead Wakamatsu gave recommendations for crops: For the best Resolution, x1.3 – 2.48 For phase detection AF, x1.0 and x1.53 For best dynamic range, x1.24

  8. The Kodak sensor also appears to have thicker filter dyes which results in rich color and excellent color separation. Later sensors may have been optimized for sensitivity, particularly cheaper sensors. If you look at images from the BM Pocket, they have more compressed color with hues mаshed together.

  9. Maybe the AJA Cion? (or the Blackmagic equivalents) So long as you light it carefully.
