I guess my point is that, for whatever reason, these people don't consider it in need of "fixing," it's already how they like it. Maybe the real takeaway is that you and I are just old curmudgeons now lol.2 points -

Something tells me that this wasn't a camera made for a grip. Panasonic screwed up the marketing and release of this camera. From the lrumors.com "leaks" to not being clear when to release product shots, the communication is all over the place. My guess is that this camera will be available very soon; otherwise, there wouldn't have been so much info. We'll see later today what this thing is all about.2 points -

It's kind of fascinating how popular bad looking videos are. Lots of people take videos on phones, add snapchat filters on their 5" screen in direct sunlight, post, and people like it.1 point -

Good point. It probably isn't sophisticated enough to have an anti-flicker feature like some other cams do to avoid banding.1 point -

So, Panasonic seems to have designated the S9 as the "fun camera." It seems that would have been better for M43. Also, the Realtime LUT feature reminds me why I hated using Sony picture profiles- you just never really understand what they're doing. Actually, it's such a breath of fresh air to use the VX 981 camcorder as there's NO picture profile, just "standard" with contrast, saturation, and sharpness. I can see people being completely overwhelmed with these LUT features- you can stack up to 2 LUTs with varying degrees of opacity! That's crazy talk! My "magic sauce" for my shots will be VLOG with Bob's version of Kodachrome 64 set to 40% with Biff's Orange and Teal blockbuster LUT set to 60% and it only took me 3 years to figure it out.1 point -

I recently did a backpacking trip and brought an S5. The same sensor and same image quality in a smaller, lighter package would have been nice. I'm glad to see Panasonic making a small FF camera. Hopefully their next generation will have an EVF, more like the Sony A7C series I suppose. Actually, though, I'd be even more interested in some really small lenses for L mount. Their 26mm f8 is way too slow, but hey at least they're making a start.1 point -

Doubt it. You'll be fighting with lighting frequencies due to the electronic-only shutter. It might not be that bad though, but I think you might miss some shots. IMO it's more of a "if I miss the shot, no big deal" type camera.1 point -

So-so "review," but it was the first that I saw go live. Size is actually pretty reasonable. It's probably about as small as a usable FF camera is likely to be any time soon.1 point -
If I could only have ONE CAMERA

This is a really weird paragraph. APS-C is popular in the filmmaking community because it's a really close match to the size of Super 35 film. A majority of films made for decades were done on that film and there are bazillions of lenses that support the format. Since the lens is generally much more important than the sensor, S35 continued to be popular in the video world. Also, the real-world differences between FF and APS-C/APS-H are not nearly as big as people make them out to be. One thing that hinders APS-C adoption in the still photo world is the lack of high-quality lenses optimized for the format. As somebody mentioned before, Canon barely make any of them for RF mount and barely made any for EF-S mount. On the other hand, Fuji APS-C bodies are growing in popularity and have a fantastic line-up of great lenses to support them. It has nothing to do with rolling shutter, fwiw. There are full frame cameras with global shutter. Readout speed is only partly based on sensor size.1 point -

They seem to bet a lot on this app. The Japanese are at least 15 years behind on the subject and Panasonic has given birth to the worst apps in the history of computing. There is a special circle of hell for Panasonic developers. Every time I open the app for the GH5, a programmer, somewhere in the world, dies.1 point -
Authentic Maidens sounds like the name that members of the original lineup would have to tour under after an acrimonious split where Bruce Dickinson ends up with the sole rights to use the Iron Maiden name.1 point

In wonder if the Snapdragon X processor laptops will be good for productivity. Sone laptops makers including Microsoft seem to compare them with the M3 chip laptops. If they are truly that good, good riddance to enormously heavy laptops with terrible battery, and plug-in dependant performance.1 point

A new generation of viewers will still be able to distinguish between cinema and video seen on social media, just as the generations before did with film and television. It's fine if your preference is high frame rate content, but it's naive to think it will ever become the standard for cinema based on that argument. Peter Jackson tried it a decade ago and it was almost universally hated by movie goers. The issue wasn't the display technology, it was that it went against an entire lifetime of what people associate with cinema and that bothered people.1 point -

And how many films followed the lead? You were in the minority. Most people hated it and most theaters showed it in 24 fps because of complaints.1 point -
No. 60p = sports 30p = TV 24 = cinema Sorry Tony, some things will never change.1 point

Interesting to see how relatively lukewarm the YouTube videos have been about it. Particularly considering that an all expenses paid trip to Japan and an indefinite loan of a camera usually engenders a certain degree of "goodwill" from the "reviewers". For me, that means its either really, really average or they've all suddenly got religion. Which one is your money on ?0 points
