So.... like almost every camera ever released? They're not starting from the ground up every year or two. Personally I care about the overall package, its usability, price and the results it delivers. I actually prefer when they re-use body designs as then I can re-use cages and rigging.

Would you prefer they spent a lot of time and money on a new body design and designing a new sensor, delaying the camera and having to charge a lot more money for it? Personally I think they've done exactly what they should have done - merge the best parts of the GH6 with the best parts of the G9 ii, to create what's hopefully going to be the best pro-video orientated micro43 hybrid camera ever.

You're saying it like it's a bad thing, but people really like the G9 II. Putting its guts in a pro body, enabling internal raw, and charging only $300 more for it (judging by leaks) sounds pretty great to me.

I came so close to going back to M4/3 with a pair of gripped Oly OM-1’s just for these 2 lenses. Considered it for GH6 but decided it was not an option. GH7 perks interest once more, but I will need to see that that is but it’s about a perfect combo of focal lengths as there can be for me. For video anyway: 20-50 indoor? 50-100 outdoor? Bingo! Paired with something else full frame for stills with a 35-150… We could have a winner…

The Single Most important thing, "has Gerald been invited or Not?" On a more serious note, I feel Panasonic can squeeze out another 1/2 of dynamic range (from the G9ii) by tweaking the VLog, improving heat management and improving the Sensor coating further. That's 11.8 (G9ii) + 0.5 stops. That Full Frame territory. A few flavours of ProRes, BRAW and RAW wouldn't be too bad. They could shrink that horrible YAGH attachment that they made for the GH4, to about 1/3rd it's size, and have external multiple flavour RAW in the recorder.

I used to have the 10-25 f1.7 and it was probably the perfect lens for me. It really was great. The pairing with the 25-50 would be great.

A dream GH camera, although feel a bit sorry for GH6 owners and those who weren't invited to the launch like Gerald. Incidentally Panasonic did not even email me that it was coming out or give me any press release. Panasonic marketing at their finest!

    Canon EOS C400

Looks pretty awesome! No real complaints from me yet, based on the CVP video. Worth an $8k spend for me? Meh... not really. But it looks really solid with most of the expected basics covered, even if it doesn't have anything wildly new. The one weird thing is that they have left out a DGO sensor. Seems like a strange choice, considering how the C70 has it.

Just saw the CVP tests - the big surprise here is the unique triple base iso - really impressive feature in the under-exposure latitude tests. This might be the best low light camera available

https://www.cined.com/canon-eos-c400-cinema-camera-announced-6k-full-frame-raw-internal-recording-triple-base-iso-and-more/ I was wrong about the lower native ISO - it's 800. Also, the full sensor resolution is 6000x3164. That seems aligned with my belief that it can do 17:9 open gate (or awfully close to it). I also missed that it has built-in ND filters. Nice.

You gotta give it to Panasonic though, they took an entire market of loyal m4/3 users and halted any and all discussions about the full frame "myth" and made them loyal full frame shooters. And then when you think m4/3 is all but dead and buried... they flip the script and instead of releasing an S2H... they release the apex of m4/3 cameras. I guess they learned from their mistake of sitting on the GH6 release for so long. Release m4/3 first and then full frame a year later... Us dopes will buy both.

I used the in camera LUT feature all last year with the S5ii and would probably have stuck with it this year also except for one issue and that was the footage did not cut seamlessly with that from my S1H. But otherwise, definitely a good thing for those of us who are not especially interested in grading in post etc. One option I am considering for 2025 is trading the S1H (cries silently inside) for an S9 but then switching their roles with the S5ii moving into the static role and the dinky S9 on me at all times doing the 10 second clips. S9 with the Smallrig grip (or even cage as I use with the S5ii) and the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 could be a winning combo in that role. And use the LUT feature again.

Rumors now say the GH7 pricing is $2200 That's good news (was worried it might have been on the higher side of the two thousands, not low two thousands), and with how high inflation has been lately, I don't think we could have realistically have hoped for much better. ohhhh... that's an ingenious loophole! Kill two birds with one stone. The YAGH was innovative for its time, nobody else had tried this, but I can't see them ever repeating in 2024 the now obvious mistakes of it: 1) it needed external power 2) was too big (having four SDI outputs for instance is great, but a bit overkill? 1x full size HDMI + 2x SDI independent outputs is enough for 97%+ of people)

Well, at some point the sheer size of the FF sensor becomes an issue when fitting it into a smaller body, and maybe that's the limit we've reached. Not only is the sensor larger, but the IBIS must be more powerful because of the extra weight as well as thermal considerations from the extra power demands, which of course require a larger battery. There's a reason the iPhone camera can be so small:

Yes, Panasonic's lens options are a weakness. The primes they have are excellent and geared towards video shooters in that they are roughly the same size and weight, have the same filter size, have minimal focus breathing, etc. but they are bigger than their competitors. They are more expensive than Canon's f1.8 primes, which are under $300 and much smaller, but the build quality isn't nearly as good as the Panasonic lenses. Sony has a lot of options, with their sub $600 primes being pretty small but they're also F1.8, f2.5, and f2.8. Panasonic should really look into doing budget primes along the lines of what they have for m43 (14mm f2.5, 20mm f1.7, 25mm f1.7, 30mm f1/7, 42.5mm f1.7) A bunch of compact f2.5 or F2/8 lenses for under $300 would be appealing.

And yet Biden has achieved more bipartisan legislation than any president going back for decades. The Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the PACT Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, plus numerous programs and EOs combatting Climate Change, protecting equal marriage, reducing racial inequality etc etc. He's actually one of the most consequential presidents in living memory. It's frankly rather astonishing that he isn't a shoo-in in an election where his opponent is a three-time loser, adjudicated rapist and convicted felon.

It boggles my mind that from a population of 333 million, those 2 are the ‘best’ options. I know, I know, there is more to it than that and ultimately it all comes down to how much you got and who’s backing you etc, combined with just how many skeletons you have in that back closet, but faaaaaark, to the rest of the World (and a massive chunk of the US), as above, boggles the mind!

Honestly I think sticking with the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 Lens as the "freebie / promotional lens" would have done far less harm to the S9 launch, than that f8 manual focus lens! Even though the 50mm is quite big, at least it wouldn't have generated so much negativity being bundled with the S9. (although yeah, I think ideally Panasonic should develop a 45mm f2/8 lens that's very compact, or something like that) What was wrong with the GH4?? It was revolutionary for its time!
