It is a bit of mystery, especially with the option of the magnetic mount anamorphic lenses and ND filters. Feels like there was much nicer stuff being made with the first one but you could argue that the GH cameras have followed a similar curve in absolute terms.2 points

You could just imagine Lindybeige, in a pub, on his own, having a good old chat with himself. About anything.2 points

Well, he did… but I’m sure I saw him pop a Werther’s Original half way round…2 points

I think application scenarios are very critical, as different application scenarios require different criteria for camera selection. for example, for run an gun events and news shooting, good ibis, c-af, good jpeg engine, streamlined ergonomics, redundant recording, etc are important. for indi shorts or features, low compression 12 bit raw is a must. once we have crystal clear scenarios and criteria, then camera selection makes sense.1 point

a full frame camera with the best ibis?

I totally agree, I just upgraded my Panasonic S5ii to the latest firmware, and in IBIS "tripod mode" with the 24-105/4 OIS I was able to handhold a 2-hour theatre production for the zoom close-ups and it is as steady as my wide tripod shots. I'm going to shoot my first live event (carnival, moving around) with my S5ii and 24-105/4. I've shot it for every year on just about every Panasonic and Olympus camera since the summer the GX80 came out. I'm curious how the S5ii will compare. The best so far was my E-M1ii with the Olympus 12-100/4 OIS. That was an amazingly stable setup. I only switched to the S5ii as I needed better low-light for theatre photography and use the Sigma 14-70/2.8. Actually high iso might not matter much anymore even for photography as the AI noise reduction in Lightroom is amazing.1 point -
Inspired : D by you Marty @PannySVHS I've just posted there when 5-minutes limitation to edit any post here has given to this community a new post elsewhere: :- )1 point

That´s pretty much what I stated.🙂 @Emanuel Footage so far does not represent what the camera and sensor should quiet possibly be able capable off. But then it does not make sense for myself to study footage which does not give any hints to draw conclusions from regarding image quality. If I would, I´d had to neglect this camera´s image quality completely by what I´ve been coming across so far. But I´ve seen pretty nice 10bit HLG / Log footage in their drones. So I expect the Pocket not to disappoint in the image department with its 1" sensor. If wrong, that would be surprising and, well, kinda disappointing. But no big deal. Disappointment would be a strong word. Not met assumptions would be the better way to put it.1 point

I'd say they are in hands of different people nowadays or those ones have transferred themselves somewhere else... ; ) LOL1 point

As written earlier, it's natural because the use is basically in hands of casual shooters. The focus should be centered here on the capabilities of the features and performance of the device itself, not the skills or goal of the individuals behind. Let alone the question of taste outside now. I haven't bought one yet but it is something I won't be able to ignore. This doesn't mean it is a replacement for anything other than the segment it is. Some other trouble I am used to read over these same pages is to compare apples to oranges. It doesn't make sense at all to me. You cannot compare a bike with a car. :- )1 point

As well as the add on wide angle and anamorphic lenses, it does have a decent virtual zoom with a good ergonomic operation using the thumbtack. Its range is dependent on your resolution of course but for the purpose as a travel camera its pretty good.1 point

Stoked about this! Biggest cycling news of the year it will be. As Mark Cavendish set a record that likely will remain for my entire lifetime.1 point

I think you'd be waiting for at least a year. The S1Hii seems to be set for later this year or early next year, possibly an S1 or S1R replacement as well. They wouldn't do a new S5 until well after those release, and they wouldn't be able to get away with doing another IMX410 iteration, so it would probably depend on an better-enough sensor getting cheap enough to keep the S5 at the same price. The Z6iii sensor is probably exclusive to Nikon for a while, and then Sony might use it, so that might be out of the picture for a year or two.1 point

It would take a lot of footage for me to be able to see through the grading that was applied to each video, and I haven't deep dived enough to do that. However, both seem capable of creating decent images, if they are pointed at something interesting and treated well in post. Probably the difference is that the Apple log has a fully-supported colour management profile, which enables it to fit into a workflow that includes professional tools and ability to accurately perform WB and exposure changes in post, and to also align to various other treatments to create the intended outcome. In terms of which is 'better', the differences in context completely overwhelm this question when compared to the image.1 point

Absolutely. It's like people have forgotten what the images in the cinema actually looked like, or that they were 35mm film. I say that because people who apply a "filmic" or "cinematic" look seem to apply a film emulation at about 284% of what is realistic. This is a scan of (IIRC) Kodak 200T (source) : The video above is: too sharp too heavy split-tone very heavy-handed diffusion ridiculous halation etc It's like they got a film emulation plugin and put some sliders to 0% emulation, and others to 350%. In colour, "if it looks good then it is good" definitely applies, but it doesn't seem to have a look of its own, it's just got a bad film emulation on it.1 point

That was some display of Main Character Syndrome by Ronaldo last night though taking every single free kick and then the penalty though. It was very weak and potentially catastrophic from Martinez not to substitute him at half time of extra time after the penalty miss when he clearly had become an emotional wreck. You could argue he got redemption in the end scoring one in the shootout but it was really horrible as a neutral watching him fall apart like that so God knows what impact it was having on his team mates. The brilliance of Costa dug Martinez out of a big hole. I wouldn't be starting Ronaldo in the next game as his body isn't responding to him any more. The talismanic effect of having him in the team has been lost if he's seen to crumble like that and make it all about him. France are not hitting any heights in this tournament so I think you have a reasonable chance of overcoming them but you can't do it with a passenger.1 point
