  1. Well I'm guessing that whatever massive feature set these new cameras have that a level meter isn't one of them

  3. They make a FF version...its called the C400🤣. But yes, I hope they do what they did with the C300; this time next year announce a C90 with the C400's sensor and C70's form factor and let all of the C400 buyers sit around with buyers regret. You are so right about trying to match the C70, my R7 is my C70 B cam and especially with the speedbooster on the C70 it can be challenging, plus I am trying to compare the histogram on the R7 to the WFM on the C70.....fun times.

  4. Very much Batman 1966 with the Dutch angle when in the lairs of the villains to indicate that they were crooked. Not sure thats the vibe that Canon would want to portray but it would have been quite apt for the launch of the original R5.

  5. I'll send them some angrily worded emails telling them off! 😉

  6. I'm off to the Cambridge folk festival next week with my 15 yr old and I'm going to be shooting a mini-doc focusing on why people love this nearly 50yr old festival so much, ie I won't be risking trouble by filming the big acts etc - more aiming for lots of vox pops and street-style imagery. After a lot of thought I'm just taking my A6600, a couple of my Super Taks - probably the 20mm and the 55mm, together with a straight adapter and a focal length reducer. To go with it and allow me to have some control I'll be adding a 12 inch tube light and a magnetic little RBG, a 14 inch collapsible 5-in-1 reflector/diffuser, 2 little wireless lavs and a VideoMic. All needs to fit comfortably in my mid-size messenger bag. I may take my knock-off cinesaddle as it can double as a pillow in my tent and something to sit on while watching bands!

  8. The C70 is just great. People are going to be shooting with 'em for years to come... basically until all the screens break off. And then someone will offer a repair/third-party replacement and people will start using them again. I just wish they'd make a FF version of it so I could get the full FOV of my M-mount lenses (since M mount speed boosters are both impossible and also a terrible idea because of how many M mount lenses have protruding rear elements). Anyway. Fingers crossed that the DR will improve. It'd be nice to light for the C70 and then not have to realize that the B camera somehow has both blown-out highlights and crushed shadows. 😅

  9. Well yes, that is the hope...usable stops, paper specs mean nothing. With all of my Canons except the C70 I tend to overexpose a bit to the point to where it can be challenging finding a happy medium so that I can push it back down in post to get max DR with minimal noise, trusting the WFM more and having to play less exposure gymnastics would be great.

  10. Yeah. the people were just clearing out old stuff. They said they didn't know if it even worked anymore, they hadn't used it in ten years. I didn't know the model so didn't know if it was good or not but I bought it (despite already having a bunch of cameras). I'm glad I did as it's a very good camera. Does it still count as G.A.S. if something doesn't cost much?

  11. From the DPReview initial review (my bold):

  12. Discussed a bit already in this thread. They're calling it "sraw." I suspect that it's downsampling the full sensor readout and storing the data in a 12-bit raw-like format. It's probably not actually raw, but works like it for any of the stuff people care about.

  13. 8k raw bitrate for 30fps is 2600mb/s. Thats 4.6:1 compression ratio. For 8k60p you have to use "lightweight" raw, same 2600mb/s, and that equals to almost 9:1 compression ratio. 8k24p 10bit 4:2:2 "high" intra: 1920mb/s. Seems like there is no 8k60p 10bit recording. Also didn't find 4k60p "Fine", so its not from full sensor readout. The only "Fine" 4k60p is 8bit 4:2:0.

  14. Does anyone else understand what this means: I have read that 3x on different spec sheets but still don't understand what it means or if it means what it says then I don't believe it.....does the R5II really have a NATIVE ISO range from 100-51200? I have heard of dual native ISO and now triple native ISO for the C400, there is no way the R5II has hundreds of native ISOs. I think they mean standard ISO and extended ISO.

  15. The UK price for the R5ii is £4499 versus £3299 for the Z8. The R5ii has some neat new features but the core stuff doesn't seem like its justifying 35% a hike against the more flexible mounted Z8. I'll be interested to see the overheating scrutiny it gets after the erm "interesting" history of the mark 1.

    ISO is irrelevant

This is the trailer for the film - are the sections you're talking about in here? There are a few shots in here with lots of noise, but they're either a heavy film emulation or a video camera emulation, so are artistically relevant. and the other trailer doesn't have any noise I could see at all. Film Emulation is super hot right now, and heavy grain is a part of that. Both of these trailers look like they have considerable subtractive saturation, so that seems to align with film emulation.

  17. Plus actually has a grip! I am sure that I will be more than happy with my S9 in it’s intended role when it arrives, but if choosing a system from scratch, I’d probably go Sony and have the ZV-E1 as my lightweight & portable run & gun to unit. I am not the biggest Sony fan in the world, though have used them for video previously and shoot stills now with an A7, but out of all the full frame brands, they easily have the most compact options, bodies and glass, so if that is of importance or a priority…

Panasonic 35mm f1.8 L Mount. Frame extracts from 4K file on my Panasonic S5ii. It isn't lacking in sharpness that's for sure.

  22. It's kind of liberating sometimes when you set aside all your perfectionism and just have a good time with modest tech. Recently I went on a several day bike trip on Vancouver Island (beautiful place) so I couldn't bring much. I also wanted something I could pull out of a belt pouch with one hand and click while still cycling. I have a Canon G16 (garage sale find for $6) I was first considering which takes beautiful pictures but is kind of bulky then I found in a drawer an old Sony DSC-T100. It's only does JPGs at 8 megapixels. Below my current standards but then these things are a trade off. I was only just going to email a few people some pics when I got home so it's good enough. I liked how small it was on the trip. I also used my phone but it's an older one without a zoom, also it's awkward to use compared to a camera. I had to stop cycling to take a picture with it. With the "real" camera, I could reach down, put the wrist strap on, flip down the front flap to turn it on and click, and put it back, all while still cycling. So it all worked out and I got some amazing pictures within the limits of the situation.

  23. Well I own precisely zero fast lenses as in primes such as 1.4 or 1.8’s and moved exclusively to zooms recently. I prefer primes, but the reality for my work, is I tried juggling them for far too long but the simple reality was a typical zoom covers at least 3 prime focal lengths with simple rotations. OK, other than a few exotics such as Canon’s RF 28-70 f2 monster, faster than f2.8 zooms do not exist and I am over using any lens above 1kg and most of my zooms are ball park 500g or under. AI could certainly adjust DOF to be even shallower, but you know what? I am also over ultra shallow DOF and f2.8 is just fine thanks!
