  1. I tried, but mention of the Fuji triggered me into responding as did the mention of the S5. Plus I sometimes have too much time so 🤷‍♂️

  2. A bit serendipitous after me discovering my long stored DVX100 last week and getting all "you know what, this thing is so much more appealing to go and shoot with" before wishing there was something similar with a modern spec comes Sony launching two new camcorders. They are basically exactly the same thing but with the Z200 having 12G SDI and being able to use the MXF container at a later firmware update (albeit one that is bizarrely listed as being June 2025) and tick every modern spec box including Fully variable electronic ND AI Autofocus S-Cinetone and S-Log3 20x optical zoom 10 bit 4:2:2 4K60 Active Mode IS 4 channel audio Dual card slots At $4K and $3.2K respectively, they aren't exactly great value propositions versus rolling your own solution with a larger sensor mirrorless body and lenses (although good luck finding a par focal 20x servo zoom lens for your mirrorless) and yet... There is a huge upside in the operational value of having everything integrated when it comes to actually picking it up and going to shoot with it, particularly that variable ND and the 24-480mm zoom (which becomes a lossless 24-720mm with the clear image zoom). Yes, yes, of course you have to look past the sensor size "only" being 1" but its versatility and ease of use for past paced situations means this is an enormously powerful all round camera for making money with.

  3. Have spotted a couple Sigma FP’s at $950 U.S. this week. Exciting times for anyone like me who couldn’t justify the price tag a few years ago but now wants to dip their toes into a cinematic RAW workflow. Plenty on KEH, eBay and Japanese sites hovering right at $1,000. And the FP-L can be had for $1,500. There’s a big 20% off sale at KEH right now as well so plenty of great deals for the next few days on slightly used equip. Now if they would just give us an open gate or Anamorphic friendly crop for 1.5x - 2x and I’d be really happy.

  4. Please please please Sigma make another but with less deal-breakers (for me) (and many others). My ‘most wanted’ camera that I have never been able to own.

  5. Agreed that everything other than 12-bit raw from the fp is a bit crap. It also has a fairly dim non-flippy screen which requires using an external display, add-on EVF unless you want to sit directly behind the camera and hoping that you're not outside on a sunny day. Bottom mounted sleds can be a bit tricky because you'll either need to make it taller to handle 1/4x20 or lose the tripod mount. It looks like 52 Weeks went the route of losing the mount, but making the sled Arca-compatible. That can work, but only if you're the kind of monster who puts on their tripod mount sideways (making the use of almost any video-friendly tripod head pretty awkward, since the Arca Swiss mount on them is usually front-back vs side-side). Anyway, that sled is not too dissimilar from the DPL solution. You might also consider their "FP mate" side-mounted SSD sled option which won't need a cable and which also doubles as a weird/awkward left-side hand grip. https://darkpower.aliexpress.com/store/1102339831/pages/all-items.html?productGroupId=40000005805009&storeId=1102339831&sortType=bestmatch_sort&shop_sortType=bestmatch_sort

  6. FWIW, you can record in anamorphic-friendly modes on the fp, but you can't do it in raw (so you'll be limited to a mediocre h264). The trick is to use the director's viewfinder feature. I ended up trading in my fp and fp-l because I realized I was never using them because they didn't actually do anything better than any of my other cameras - and when set up to record 12-bit raw, even with the darkpowerlabs rig, they became as big as my R5. Thanks for the heads-up, though, on the KEH sale! I hadn't heard of it - my CN-E set (currently 14,24,50,85) just grew to include a 35. 😃

  7. Anyway, I'm following my own guideline and dipping out of contributing to this thread as the OP has already asked exactly the same question in another thread he started and despite two pages of earnest advice he hasn't bothered his arse to even acknowledge the contributions. After two fucking years.

  8. Yes, 12-35mm f2.8 for all stills shown on this trip so far. My wife and I got sick for a few days, probably covid which is rampant here, but are on the mend. During this time I've been shooting a lot out of the hotel window, which has a pretty awesome view. For this I've been using the GX85 + 14-140mm F3.5-5.6 and the BMMCC + 12-35mm F2.8 as well as the fast primes I brought for the dusk / blue-hour time when the lights come on, which are the 7.5mm F2, the 17mm F1.4 and 50mm F1.2. The extra crop factor on the BMMCC with the 50mm was welcome in focusing in a bit more on certain parts of the view. I'd really like a small, light, F1.4 or faster prime though. I've looked and it doesn't seem like there are any good options, except maybe the Rokinon/Samyang 85mm f1.4, but more research would be needed. I'll definitely keep shooting the view from the window as I will have enough for a decent sequence or even a whole film just from this vantage point - there is so much happening here! I've actually had an epiphany while being here and shooting with this camera, but that's a whole other thing and I'll share more when I'm back and have digested it a bit more, but spoiler alert, I think I'm now a convert to shooting fully manual with rigged cine cameras in public, and it has nothing to do with the image.

  9. Here's another short clip of that Cajun band from a few weeks ago, shot on the AngĂŠnieux 17.5-70 Super 16 zoom from the 1970s.

  10. I shot weddings for 2 seasons on the X Pro1 having ditched my chunky boy Nikon D3S’s to do so. Very ‘film-like’ files from the second most ‘organic’ sensors after the OG X100. Plenty of fast f1.4 lenses to choose from. The X Pro2 is faster and arguably a better camera, but the files didn’t have quite the same magic…though again, became my workhorse units for another 2 seasons. If you are more ‘artistic’ orientated, the X Pro1 would be a good shout!

  11. The Nikon DSLR sensors are amazing. I honestly don't think the current Nikon sensors are any better, maybe by a hair. I have the D610 and the dynamic range and high ISO performance are amazing.

  12. I haven't been able to use my Micro yet as I have no cards for it. Really curious to test it out though. I used to own the original Pocket camera which I am fond of. @kye Those frames look excelent, though probably mostly to do with your compositions.
