    Canon C80 coming soon

Here is one of the guys that I really trust for reviews, he makes a living every day as a videographer, not a YT reviewer. Funny thing is, he said almost exactly the same things that I said in this thread (C70 is almost too soft, C70 falls apart after 3200ISO, if you already have the C70 it might be all you need, etc.). Honestly, his video makes me want the C80 more than anything I have seen so far (but I'm not upgrading). I fall squarely into the category where the C70 is more than enough for my needs but the C80 would fix everything I don't like about the C70.

  2. On the overheating I would not be so sure. My iPhone 15 Pro Max overheats like crazy, I cannot let the phone in the sun turned off for 15min (pre event) and then record, while my R5 in 8K Raw has no problem. The phone is mounted on top of the R5 so exactly the same time, position, temperature....

  3. This sort of thing used to come up a lot in the Z Cam user groups. It's not necessarily that most clients on a paid shoot really mind, but there is sometimes an uphill battle in needing to educate the customer. If you tell the customer "I'm showing up with a Red" or "I'll be there with my FX6" - or insert any boxy prosumer camera in here, there's no education or discussion needed. Even though the Netflix approved camera list is truly only relevant to people who are shooting a made-for-Netflix production, it could also be a useful tool - "I'll be showing up at your shoot with this camera which, as you can see, is used to make productions for Netflix." Even for non-paid cinema work that I do, people get a lot more excited if I show up with the Komodo-X than they do if I show up with the C70 or Z-Cam or GFX 100 II. There's no need for them to be - every one of those cameras can make a really nice image.

  4. Mine overheats in 4k 25 and 50fps 10bit log h265 internal, no attached storage. It is a phone and can do already miracles but quality and usability is still far off a Mirrorless, yet you can use it everywhere and is very convenient. Osmo Pocket 3 has imo quite a bit better image quality and dji log can take more post processing.

  5. Yes, overheating is exactly my concern, even though with the SSD attached no idea if the issue stands the same way?

    Nikon cinema line?

They operate like consumer tech brands, but a lot of sales would be to pros who would like to plan investments.

  7. Am amused at how your quote was in Russian, even though neither sanveer or your own comment was in Russian 😛 I too would like a S1Hmk2 with the a7S/FX3 12 megapixel sensor (or heck, I'd love a FX30mk2 with a 12 megapixel sensor!), but I suspect Panasonic wouldn't do that as they want S1H to be more of a hybrid camera that can capture the photographer market too. And 12 megapixels can't do that in 2024, nobody gets excited over a D700/D3 12MP body any longer.

  8. If the quality was good, do you think they’d mind? I’d be curious if you brought your normal mirrorless body to a gig and iPhone log to compare. but for non-paid work - iPhone is really starting to look like a good solution!

    Nikon cinema line?

It all revolves around what Nikon acquisition of Red means. Everything and the opposite of everything has been said but so far no move by the two companies other than a few statements to keep investors and customers quiet. It all depends on whether we will have: A new Nikon iteration with Red technology A new Red iteration with Nikon technology. Then the money always ends up in the same pockets. IMO, the second option is more likely: DPs and directors are the most reactionary groups that exist.

  10. Maybe the social work he is referring to is counselling people who bought one two weeks ago at the old price.

  11. I am guessing a few things are happening. Panasonic is trying to get rid of the old 25MP FF sensor inventry. Which is why the S9. It's a good camera for the price and sensor size, but it has some issues which Panasonic doesn't want in the next generation of FF sensor. Panasonic needs a New Sensor greater than 24MP and Way Less than 60MP (somewhere around 40MP if it wants 8k). That sensor would make it to most of Panasonic's FF Lineup. It has to be excellent for Video, and have Reasonably High Resolution for Photo. Rolling shutter shouldn't be too bad, and it needs a huge variety of frame rates and resolutions for video. My guess is, after Nikon's working with Sony, Panasonic too is trying to ensure it gets a custom sensor, with design and features almost exclusive to Panasonic. Also, it probably doesn’t want to have the exact same or similar models at Leica, so that the market is better spread out between the two.

  12. Everything except this: A camera design and production is a lengthy process. You don't redesign and produce a camera in six months and probably not even a year.
