  1. Sure, $30k seems a lot for a camera, but if I don't spend that, where am I going to get content for my 17K TV? šŸ™„

  2. Yes I did watch it, and a studio-controlled example with no info on what he did to the image is for me is not super useful comparison. Btw I tent to not look at YT comparisons anymore... most they never represent my usage and mostly are optimized to make something looks better. In my usage (never studio or static setup) Osmo is better. I find that has soon as the light is not perfect iPhone footage breaks a part very quickly, I did a rely nice shoot in Alaska and it took me 1h of tweaking to kind of get something usable out: Is great that on the 16 they improved the wide angle as in my 15 is not really good: iPhone is impressive for what it is but all this BS that compares it to mirrorless, RED, etc.... in my usage it does not even compare favorably with the Osmo Pocket 3 other than in perfect condition. I have R5 II, R5c, Osmo Pocket 3, Insta GO 3s and X4 and the iPhone is the one that I like the least (of course quality is better than the GO3s and the X4), do I use it a lot? Yes, due to connivence and also the 5x tele (even worst quality but great backup solution when mounted on top of my main camera).

  3. Found this video the other day... turns out that Japanese camera company made a camera that catered to the Japanese, and (and this is the kicker...) the Japanese people liked it. Who knew? He talks about the S9 specifically at 1:25. The whole thing would be equivalent to GoPro making a camera for the US market, the US market really liking it, the US people buying it, and the Japanese people all talking in Japanese about how GoPro made a useless camera because no-one in Japan liked it. lol.

  4. the question is: if you have only $30 grand, are you going to buy Sony burano, or Venus 2, or Alexa mini lf/65, or red raptor, or this 16k bm? why?

  7. It all sounds beautiful but it is not. The devil is in the details. Making an 2 nm chip that allows you to do what an iPhone or an A7SIII, a Z9 or an R1 does costs bazillions of euros to design and build. And who pays for it? Us! And where are the profit margins? In the number of gadgets sold. And here perhaps we are missing something: Number of iPhones sold worldwide in 2023: 231 million units https://www.statista.com/statistics/276306/global-apple-iphone-sales-since-fiscal-year-2007/ Number of cameras sold worldwide in 2023: https://www.43rumors.com/nikkei-published-the-worldwide-market-share-2023-panasonic-and-om-digital-on-5th-and-6th-spot So the magic 2nm chip shipped in 231 million iPhones (ā‚¬1500) must be divided between the 3 million lucky Canon camera owners and 800,000 poor Panasonic users.

  8. I think the issue is not the potential for Black Magic cameras, but just perception in the industry. It's really hard to change norms that have been norms for so long. It would be really cool if they can agressivly push them with younger dp's, then maybe they'll get more accepted with time.

  9. Fair points - I guess Iā€™m liking the iPhone log over osmo in YT videos because thatā€™s where I watch all videos that arenā€™t TV shows. Are there other platforms youā€™re posting videos on? If so, send a link and Iā€™ll check it out. I love the pocket 3 as well and may invest in one but I have to say I do think comparing these images to a mirrorless body is certainly valuable and closer than what youā€™re saying in most conditions. All cameras sucked in lowlight prior to the a7S line and nobody seemed to think it an issue until then. Iā€™d never argue, currently, that you folks who do this for a living should be using iPhones and osmos for work - but for your daily driver? Your family camera, your travel camera, your YouTube channel - yes the pocket 3 and iPhone log solutions are very good quality and desirable due to ease of use and ergonomics. At some point a 3rd party vendor or manufacturer of these products will be able to use larger sensors in these small products and combine it with attachments and software to rival mirrorless. Physics always wins so maybe it wonā€™t eclipse mirrorless body sensors but man itā€™s getting so close to the human brain not being able to tell the difference to most observers and if you can be happy with it then thatā€™s what matters most to me.

  10. I really donĀ“t care about any orange man. But thanks a lot. IĀ“m not talking about film features with worldwide distribution, but the big releases instead, where you have discussion about the camera, similar to Fraser talking about the LF, or Deakins talking about the Alexa. I donĀ“t doubt the Cameras being used on a lot of movies and productions (I really like what BMD is doing ever since the OG BMCC), but theyĀ“re no talking point in a way, that elevates them to being a new, central player in that field. I see directors and DPs talking about Cameras and Lenses, but IĀ“m still waiting for them to geek out for the Blackmagic Cameras. All IĀ“m saying is, that with the 17k cine, thereĀ“s quite the potential to take that step and IĀ“d like to see that. And yeah, that Red overall and that 3k for 3k really wasnĀ“t what it was supposed to become. So BMD really took that place with ease.

  15. Ha, I donā€™t think you are a conspiracy theorist but simply stating what a lot of us Lumix users are thinking. At EOSHD and even on YouTube in general, we might only make up a small percentage of actual purchasers and because of that, maybe the marketing dept. at Lumix (mistakenly) think we donā€™t matter, but I agree, they consistently donā€™t seem to really understand marketing. Or maybe I/we donā€™t and they are correct with their approachā€¦ But I think not. Itā€™s almost like some obstinate ā€œwe would rather cut our own noses off than changeā€ mentality that holds them back. Itā€™s not like they are the only oneā€™sā€¦ How hard for instance does your insurance company try to retain your custom every year? I bet not very. How much would it cost to retain you? Less than they spend on attracting and discounting new customers. They get away with it because enough people just canā€™t be bothered to shop around each year so just renew. The issue here though is that folks are a little more interested and invested in the product and brand than they are with insurance. Folks WILL and do go elsewhere. Not that it makes much real world difference to me, I just donā€™t like stupidity in any form šŸ¤Ŗ

  16. As I wrote here the problem is all in the marketing department that should be sent to Siberia immediately. It is clear that these two products are aimed at a professional niche audience (evidently filling some broadcast market gap) since even the web pages are on the Pana pro site and not Lumix. No event, no influencers... Even the technical features are listed almost mysteriously. A sign that it is not aimed at the classic Lumix audience. The problem is the timing. You almost sneak out such a product while your entire Lumix user base has been waiting over a year for the new iteration of S1 models. Suicide. Now half your Lumix customers think you're finished. I repeat: siberia, siberia!!!!

  17. ā€˜Multi-Purposeā€™ camera. What purposes are those then other than shooting video? Does it shoot stills? Does it make coffee? ā€œFor emotional and cinematic videoā€. First I cried. Then I laughed. Then I got all serious and finally kicked the dog. Who writes this shit? šŸ¤”

  18. Mine overheats in 4k 25 and 50fps 10bit log h265 internal, no attached storage. It is a phone and can do already miracles but quality and usability is still far off a Mirrorless, yet you can use it everywhere and is very convenient. Osmo Pocket 3 has imo quite a bit better image quality and dji log can take more post processing.

  19. When I saw yesterday that you will now be able do do 4k120p ProRes on a phone, I imagined the shame being felt by any number of camera companies who claim they can't do it on their dedicated cameras. Not sure yet how long the iPhone can roll 4k120 without overheating, but Canon should be making a face like the meme awkward puppet monkey right about now... It's increasingly obvious that camera vendors should stop trying to build their own special magic chips (Bionz! Digic! X-Processor Pro!) and figure out how to adopt current-generation smartphone processors. Why build a dedicated chip on a 14nm process when you could build your system on a much more powerful chip that was built with 2nm that uses less power and runs so much cooler? A lot of vendors should feel relief that the companies who have (so far) tried to blend phone and camera have done such a tremendously terrible job of integration. Eventually somebody's gonna get it right.

And they work brilliantly because this was my approach for the first half of this year, - adapted E Mount glass on Nikon bodies...except there is one potential flaw and that is the lack of in camera lens correction. Sony bodies correct for it, Nikon bodies do not. It has not been a major issue with stills though sometimes, even with lens profiles in Lightroom and some manual adjustment, it has been impossible to truly straighten certain things and a bit of hard cropping is the only option. With video though, it would be a bigger concern. AF and image quality though, superb and it's my opinion, Nikon image quality is nicer than Sony image quality with your typical hybrid camera. And ultimately, it means that Nikon Z users have access to more glass than Sony E Mount users. But I have switched to Sony for stills because ultimately, I did not want the niggles of lens distortion and the AF is as good as it gets and those 2 factors counted for me on the basis that the image quality difference is negligible. Actually, regarding the latter, the image quality of the 61mp Sony files is better than that of the 24mp Zf files, but the Zf is better in low light. Without question.
