  1. Tim Sewell

    FX30 first outing

Went to Manchester for the firs time (at 60!) and it's very photogenic - I will definitely be returning (with a tripod).

  2. That's basically why I ended up ditching my Sigma fp and fp-l. By the time they were set up for any sort of reasonable shooting (external SSD + screen), they ended up a lot bigger than my Canon R5 (internal raw, screen can be rotated).

  3. So you run a forum and can just change the content of a thread because you dislike the source? What an odd culture

  4. As far as the FX30 goes - well it's an excellent little camera. Very easy to use, produces a nice image and with the latest update even has shutter angle! A few of the lower light shots needed some NR adding in Resolve, but nothing outrageous. For the video above I didn't use Cineprint. CST, NR, Balance, Contrast, A dab of Film Look Creator then out through the DVR Kodak 2383 D55 LUT, via a CST to Cineon.

  5. Hey guys, wanted to share with my short Video. It was recorded with GFX 100ii with lovely fujinon 110mm f2 at dunes of Maspalomas. I uploaded stilgars voice to voice cloner and let him narrate my favorite quotes from Dune series. Edited with Dehancer plugin. Film emulation was Ambrotype (by Anatolee Green). Music is ofcourse hans zimmer from the original first Dune. GFX100ii settings: 5.8k mode 24fps 720mbps 422 FLOG2. (5.8k mode has the wide aspect ratio but uses the full width of the sensor) Unfortunately no open gate 4:3 that would have been awesome. What do you think? did I match the color from Dune? voice cloning gives me creeps.

  6. I agree with @SRV1981. Totally fair for Andrew to decide what is or isn't posted in his forum by deleting content or adding editor's notes, but I don't think it's good practice to change what a user wrote. @SRV1981 did not post the content that it looks like he posted and I think users should have the right to not be misrepresented as saying something they didnt, even if they don't pay hosting fees. I don't pay hosting fees on Facebook either. And I know in this case it's not life or death. I'm just saying I would be annoyed if my username was labeled as the author of something I didn't write or post.

  7. You might also want to consider whether the convenience of touching your production monitor to choose focus points is worth supporting a shitty company like Atomos.

  8. I really hope so. I think it would be a big mistake to not port everything from the S9 to the S5ii/X as soon as possible.

  9. So many helped spread the false news that Civil War was shot entirely with the DJI Ronin 4D. Instead, the main camera was a Sony Venice. However, the 4D was used especially in the combat scenes, and they also used an A7S3 for one particular scene. I found this interview (with lots of behind-the-scenes footage) with Civil War DOP Rob Hardy very nice.

  10. Interestingly, in the Optyczne.pl 'Movie Mode Test' of the S9, they found some changes/improvements have been made to the video processing compared to the S5ii, so maybe that will turn up in a firmware update for the S5 ii? S9 test: https://www.optyczne.pl/94.4-Inne_testy-Panasonic_Lumix_S9_-_test_trybu_filmowego_Jakość_obrazu.html S5 ii test: https://www.optyczne.pl/70.4-Inne_testy-Panasonic_Lumix_S5_II_-_test_trybu_filmowego_Jakość_obrazu.html Z6 iii test: https://www.optyczne.pl/91.4-Inne_testy-Nikon_Z6_III_-_test_trybu_filmowego_Jakość_obrazu.html There are also some downloadable sample clips on the next "Summary and sample videos" page of the tests. The S5 ii is a 'good value' camera, making the best out of an old, slow (and cheaper) sensor which limits 4K60p to an APS-C cropped region of the sensor. The Z6 iii is nearly twice the price of the S5 ii and has very recent, much faster, sensor allowing full-frame 4k60p with low rolling shutter (and it supports internal RAW recording). It's not really a fair comparison. I had a play (in a camera store) yesterday with an S9 fitted with the APS-C Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN lens. Quite a nice combination at less than 800g total weight and I thought the handling was OK. As I normally shoot at 50p/60p the S9 would basically be an APS-C video camera for me anyway. Not sure yet if I actually want to buy one (versus other 'compact' possibilities like the ZV-E1, A6700 and ZV-E10ii, which have a much wide range of lenses available) so I think I might sit on the fence for a while and see what happens with the S9 pricing - in what has become quite a 'hot' area of the market.

  11. This external fan thing is a bit of a nonsense. It’s like raging because the Golf GTI is not as fast as a Porsche 911 GT3. Well doh! Like everything in this world, the less you spend, the less you get and the lowest priced things cannot be expected to compete with the highest priced stuff! My rule of thumb is that most things can be competitive with most things one class up or one class down, but two classes different is too much. So an example in Cameraland, might be X-M5 vs S9 vs S5iii. The X-M5 is competitive with the S9 and there are pros and cons to each, but other than size & weight (which is a whole different thing), the X-M5 is not competitive with the S5ii. S5ii vs Komodo vs Arri… There are levels.

  12. It makes perfect sense (in my opinion) because: A. I think they overpriced it to start with. Should have been 1250 max. That would have increased the buzz but the price was and is a major criticism by most. B. They fluffed it’s launch within The Community at least. It was controversial to say the least on various levels, but specifically that utterly shit launch lens. C. Outside The Community, people shop on brand and price. Fuji vs Panasonic Lumix, not much in that but the Fuji is something like 40% cheaper. D. Panasonic’s market share is lower than Fujis with Fujis image increasing (TikTok X100 just one example) whereas LUMIX has flatlined at best. Without a halo product in an S2R or S2H very soon, they risk cardiac arrest as even within The Community, folks WILL increasingly jump ship. It’s a dog eat dog world and folks generally do not back losers and LUMIX is in very real danger of being seen as a basket case. And I am a LUMIX fan. They are my brand of choice for video. I tried the S9. It was good but not great. I returned it for another (used at the SAME price) S5ii which is a far better camera at around the same price point. Would I ever consider buying and using another S9? Yes absolutely and have kept my Smallrig cage for it just in case that opportunity comes up, but only as a sidekick to an S2R because it does not tick enough boxes for me to be my A cam for pro work (single card slot and no fan being the principle deal-breakers there for me). The X-M5 is IMO a slightly less capable camera than the S9, mainly due to the lack of IBIS but if I was Average Joe browsing my local camera shop, the sales person would probably steer me towards the sub 1k camera and price-wise, I would convince myself that 899 is better than 1499 or whatever the S9 is currently priced at. But this is all just my personal opinion and maybe the S9 is flying off the shelves, loved by the masses and The Community, but the latter are just to busy to talk about it…

  13. No, there's hype, but it's fabricated. Panasonic gave all of them an S9 for free to use forever. Please find me a YouTube video of someone who purchased the S9 at its retail price. I've counted 11 reviews on B&H since its release. That tells me it's not exactly selling like crazy and like many have said- it's way too expensive for what it is.

  14. Lowering the Panasonic S9 to $999 wouldn’t make sense given what it offers. The S9 has a full-frame sensor, which delivers better image quality than the APS-C sensor in the Fujifilm X-M5, especially in low-light. It also has 6K video recording, in-body stabilization, and advanced video tools like LUTs, making it ideal for hybrid shooters. The X-M5 is more affordable because it’s built for enthusiasts with fewer high-end features, like a smaller sensor and no IBIS. The S9 is an entry into pro-level cameras, not an entry-level option.

  15. The price is fantastic, and the autofocus looks very capable too. There's very little action under $1k with new releases so good on Fuji for keeping some excitement going. Latest image processor is a plus too. I would like to see what Small rig have in store, grip wise. A nice wooden grip please.

  16. Definitely one of the best stabs at a social mirrorless camera yet. I don't like to think of it as a "Content from creators" era camera, it's more than that... like compact X100V alternative, great for travel adventures and street photography. Loving that new film dial too. Fuji have however missed a trick not releasing a higher-end $1500 X-E5 at same time with IBIS, EVF and the newer 40mp sensor. Maybe they didn't want to cannibalise the X-T5.

  17. Fuji is going to sell so many of these (if they can make them). It isn't even funny. 6k open gate S35 sensor, Mic and headphone jack, PDAF, fuji sims, 4k 60fps... If Panasonic ever had a plan to release a G9ii in a S9 body, now is the time.

They might well be working on one but the one they've actually released today is another one with the very much have used before APS-C sensor size. The X-M5 might be IBIS and EVF-less but it packs a big punch for $799. 26MP X-Trans BSI CMOS sensor X-Processor 5 with AI-powered subject detection AF On-sensor phase detection Fully articulated 3", 1.04M-dot LCD 20 Film Simulation modes, including Reala ACE Continuous shooting up to 8fps (30fps with E-shutter and 1.25x crop) 6.2K 3:2 video up to 30p, 4K up to 60p with crop 10 but 4:2:2 External mic and 3.5mm headphone socket https://fujifilm-x.com/global/products/cameras/x-m5/

  19. What heresy - I can tell in both of those images that there are cupboards just a few feet behind him and he's in a kitchen! Any proper image with Toneh should be at f/0.95 and I shouldn't be able to tell if he's in a kitchen, at a lake, or mountaineering!

  20. In that case, I'll replace the video with something with more value to the DJI discussion 🙂
