One can hope that you're right, but Trump's handlers are a lot smarter and more powerful than he is. For many things, he's basically a useful idiot for the far right. For instance, he did not write Project 2025 and probably had very little to do with it. Yet, he's already announced that he'll be appointing many of its authors and architects to positions of power over their areas of interest. Project 2025 specifically calls for transformation of NATO and insists that allies should be self-sufficient in defending against Russia. And even if Trump (theoretically) doesn't have the power to unilaterally withdraw the US from NATO, he does have full control of the military and could refuse to engage them if Europe requested help. Even the guardrails on NATO withdrawal aren't guarantees, given that our Supreme court is now packed with right-wing partisans - and they'd be the tiebreaking vote in a showdown between the executive and legislative branches.1 point -

In Trump's first term, Americans generally felt they were better off financially. On the other hand, Trump had promised to cut down on the federal spending and yet he increased the federal debt dramatically even before COVID-19. The pandemic lead to pumping money into the economy with subsidies and this lead to subsequent inflation which was witnessed during Biden's presidency. However, the inflation rate has been declining towards the end of Biden's term and the increase of federal debt was slowing, so things seem to be moving towards a better foundation. Trump again promises to cut down on government with Musk's help. He also says he will end inflation and bring industry back to the US by using heavy tariffs on imports. 23 Nobel laureates in economics say that Trump's policies will increase inflation. This is where the con is: he will not help the ordinary American to have better purchasing power by applying these (counterproductive) policies. On the other hand, Trump may not actually implement what he said he would. He didn't make Mexico pay for the wall, either. I saw a documentary series by a Finnish journalist traveling through the US and talking about the reported division in the country with regular Americans. It seemed a lot of people there believed that Trump would help ordinary people be economically better off. Trump claimed that China will pay for the tariffs but that's not how tariffs work: the consumers pay them in increased prices. There is no easy way out of this, and it seems unlikely that ordinary people would be happy to pay for goods the prices that American-made products would cost (in many cases). America doesn't have the trained workforce to replace Chinese imports by made in the US products, neither will the Americans be happy to experience return of industrial pollution on a massive scale. One another policy that will increase the prices that Americans pay is deporting illegals. They are responsible for a large part of the workforce and typically they are hungry and willing to work hard for less money than born-in-the-US Americans. Thus if the illegals are removed, agricultural and other products will become more expensive. So, the rich will be better off (because of tax cuts for the rich), but the poor and middle class will be worse off economically because they do not have the buffer to take the price increases. People were told these things but they didn't believe it. I am constantly surprised why Americans think their "national security" and "freedom" are somehow threatened. US is the most powerful country militarily and economically and is not threatened by anyone. However, the US is very important for European security as the post-WWII security framework is based on US presence in Europe. Why this was implemented is simple: European countries have a history of starting wars with each other that lead to world wars where tens of millions of people die. By outsourcing security to the US, a lack of (hot) war has been maintained in most of Europe for nearly 80 years. This is an amazing achievement. US military and economic presence has prevented France, UK, Germany and Russia from having another go at each other. I think Europeans are very grateful for this and hope the policy can continue. I doubt Trump will really have power to change US foreign policy in a major way. This is largely controlled by the establishment and even though Trump is rich and soon a second time president, he is not a career politician or part of the establishment. And he will not have the power to change major foreign policies. Musk and Trump will try to take down the establishment but they will most likely fail because neither of them have an intimate understanding of how the country works as they are not career politicians nor did they study a relevant field. However, I do expect a lot of chaos in the US for the next 4-5 years.1 point -

This is certainly what will happen, and then we're really at the midnight hour as far as nuclear war or apocalypse go. China have been training their troops for years on the invasion, even so far as with replica Taipei streets built in military complexes around the country. Trump won't want the US involved in a defence of Taiwan, he won't want to pay for it. America first... Except in this case it will destroy America's AI and tech capabilities to lose TSMC and Taiwanese + Chinese manufacturing, and inflation will probably be up in the 50% region within 6 months. Trump could do what he and his Fox TV talk show host military commander deem to be a deterrent in place... Likely tariffs on Chinese imports. This only makes it even more likely a war will occur as the very productive economic partnership between China and the US is currently pretty much the only deterrent to war. Indeed... It was all being dealt with diplomatically for years and he drove a horse and cart through it all, and let's not forget Trump put the Taliban back in charge in Afghanistan. He lacks the IQ to win. All of his winner persona is fake. It's all showbusiness, no substance.1 point -

Trump doesn't negotiate for shit with Putin. His negotiations with that guy basically involve "how high did you say you asked me to jump, sir?" On the contrary, ceding Ukrainian to Russia as Trump will almost certainly do, will serve as a signal to China that the international community is allowing forced annexation of other countries and embolden them to crush Taiwan. The current US involvement in Ukraine is not "fighting a war." It's "supplying arms." The US military doesn't have boots on the ground. At best, you could say the US is fighting a proxy war there. That's a huge difference. Again, the only way that shithead can "end" the Ukraine war is by refusing to supply arms and letting Russia have what they want. And like how he encouraged Iran to restart their nuclear program by ending the program that prevented it? Yeah, the guy's a real fucking winner. Quite literally everything the guy has done in his entire goddamn life. That includes fraudulent businesses, fraudulent charities, 34 felony convictions, a long history of refusing to pay contractors to force them to settle for less money, sending covid testing equipment to Russia when the US didn't have enough, the attempted implementation of schedule f, the upcoming implementation of project 2025, choosing a series of dangerously unqualified idiots for his cabinet positions, and just about anything else you want to name.1 point -
New Fujifilm Eterna Cinema Cam.
eatstoomuchjam reacted to IronFilm for a topic
I'd be guessing the new GFX Fujfilm camera rather than being similar priced to a C80 it will instead be closer to double (or more) the price of a Canon C80 Hopefully there will be coming out a S35 version with an X Mount instead, and along with it a much lower price. Color still matters a lot. There is a reason why ARRI is #1. Plus there is an awful lot of content at the lower budget levels which uses SOOC colors, or just a simple LUT slapped on it. Because time is money, and they want a speedy workflow. Wait, what... there is a 1-in / Super 16 camera coming out?? Where is news of these rumors. https://www.fujirumors.com/fujifilms-move-to-1-inch-sensors-a-perfect-opportunity-to-revive-the-x30-xq2-and-xf1/ Ahhh.... I see, will be something like a competitor to the Sony RX100 / RX10 ?? Would be nice, I really liked my Fujifilm XQ1 / XF1, would be nice to see an updated 1" version of them.1 point -

It looks promising! Everything looks sensibly laid out, more or less. I'd be extremely surprised if Fuji doesn't intend to follow up with a S35 version if this sells well. On a side note, the number of people on various sites who said "I would buy x camera if they put it in a cinema body!" and now turn around and say "it's just a lazily rehoused x camera" is truly mind boggling.1 point -

Cined's interview with Fuji that I posted above pretty much confirms that the Eterna camera is "basically the same" as the GFX 100 II in terms of capability. So I don't think it's even safe to say that the RS improvement is "likely." It's possible, but I wouldn't bank on it. It's believed by just about everybody that the GFX 100 II continues to use an IMX 461, given the complete lack of meaningful change in photo capabilities and the fact that Sony doesn't have any newer sensor available. It's not clear whether it's been tweaked by Sony or whether Fuji is using some other trickery (such as using an 11-bit readout instead of 12-bit) to achieve the increased frame rates. Anyway, the point isn't what it's safe to assume about this camera, but that is a nice attempt to reframe the argument so that you'll be right. The point is that the readout modes chart in the sensor data sheet doesn't give the entire picture about the capabilities of the sensor and nothing in that datasheet or elsewhere specifically excludes the possibility of overclocking. You know, the argument that you were actually trying to make and failed at.1 point -
..or Gareth Edwrds who shot the Creator on an FX3. But I agree the cinema world is super conservative with ARRI sitting firmly on top. TV, docu & indie is a more crowded market but there are big players: RED, BM, Canon C & Sony FX. I'm not sure who the target of this Fuji Eterna will be, its gotta be super niche. It's kind of the camera nobody asked for. Medium format sounds great but if you're going to have poor rolling shutter with razor thin DoF plus huge lenses, I don't see many applications where this would warrant such an investment. I've said this a while ago, but my dream for Fuji is that they revive their old school Fujica system with hand grip a la Bolex. Modernise it with pro I/O and an EVF/flip screen but keep the form factor and essence. Place the XH2S sensor with built-in cooling and an E-ND. It could even be vertical sensor default and it would switch if you rotate 90 degrees. That might make people cringe but the camera would be a hit in wide segments (think X100 craze). And if anyone can go quirky/retro/legacy its Fuji X:1 point

While I agree to an extant for Red, Arri is in a whole separate universe and pretty much untouchable in my opinion. For large productions they don’t even bother looking at other cameras. There are just so many other factors at play when making a movie so a lot of times they don’t want to mess with any untested new stuff. Playing it safe and choosing the tried and true camera system that “everyone else uses” is the norm. Once in a while someone will get creative and use something interesting for a specific look or to achieve a particular effect. Alex Garland in Civil War for example and his choice of the Ronin 4D for some of the shots…1 point

Yeah. I have a feeling the next gen of BMD stuff will begin making the “big dogs” like Arri and Red more than a little concerned. Even simple iterations on the Pyxis and the new RGBW LF Ursa will be devastating. I’m primarily eyeing the impact on classic-type Alexa pricing though! If I can snag one with open gate for around $4k I’ll be a happy camper. The bottom has to drop out eventually!1 point -
Not sure. I’m guessing the wheel might be a mirror of the servo zoom control or assignable to focus. Although, with the camera hidden inside a Perspex box and not exactly looking particularly finished, I could also equally speculate that it is the steam controller for an internal coffee machine hidden behind a secret cover! No, I didn’t see him. The Sigma booth was predominantly a very patient and polite man with a cart full of lenses putting them on cameras for people to test so I didn’t linger there long enough. The Nikon booth was very busy though with them doing presentations about the RED lut stuff whilst the RED booth next to them was a lot about using their cameras in broadcast situations with box lenses etc Nikon were showing their prototype servo zoom lens but also showing RED Kimodos with F Mount lenses. I was quite intrigued by the latter at first glance thinking they’d produced some sort of adapter but they were just using a dumb 3rd party F-RF adapter. You’d think that through the acquisition of RED they’d make their own smart adapter now they had both parts of the puzzle but who knows the legalities of the deal RED had with Canon that would prevent that. I doubt it sits well with Nikon to have that situation last longer than necessary and I wonder whether we might see the inevitable Z mount version of the Komodo be a Nikon branded product.1 point

Price isn't released yet, but if I'm placing bets, I'm going to bet on "more than the GFX 100 II which is currently $7500"1 point -
What a useless interview, guy said nothing other than its the same IQ as GFX100II. I noticed a Japanese spec sheet on a monitor towards the end of the video that specifies ProRes HQ, ProRes 422 & ProRes LT so there's that. Anyways yeah I don't see much purpose in this cam versus a GFX 100 II. I'm betting it will be +$10K too. Page me when they stick the XH2S sensor in an affordable cine body. Speaking of rigged GFX 100 II Fuji USA posted this yesterday:1 point

cined interviewed the product planner. There are internal ND's which is good. Picture quality "basically the same" as the GFX 100 II, but "optimized more for filmmaking" with what I think he said would be f-log2c for cinema gamma.1 point -
Looks expensive.. are Fuji not releasing specs yet?? Hopefully this paves the way for a more budget S35 cine cam with something like the XH2S sensor. Exciting to have a new player in the market, Fuji nonetheless !1 point

Live from the exhibition floor… Well, it’s here but as expected it’s in a Perspex case making touching it impossible and the reflections and dim environment not exactly easy to get a decent picture of it especially on my ageing iPhone. What I can confirm though which Is what everyone wants to know is that it does have internal ND.1 point

Taking a bunch of old things and putting them together does in fact make a new thing if those things in that configuration never existed before. Is the ZV-E1 a new camera or is it just an FX3? which is just an A7sIII… Since you’re splitting hairs here I will clarify that the “newness” in my original post referred to a newly announced medium format cinema cam for the low end market. That is new is it not? My point was that innovation in the market has been stale and it’s nice to see Fuji announce an $800 camera with 6.2k open gate 12 Bit HDMI Raw and a medium format cinema cam in the same month. I’m optimistic about the future but feel free to argue about partial tech specs from a day old press release.1 point

The rumors site also said that Fuji announced a 32-90mm zoom for the GFX system. That might also be exciting - the 32-64 is my default lens on the GFX 100 and one of my only objections is the lack of reach at the long end.1 point -

Bold, maybe, but "new" is really what I was objecting to. Nothing in the announcement is "new." Otherwise, that's cool that Customs 65 is doing well. I'm glad that OFG are having some success with it. Though it's not necessarily the case that the success of a niche camera in LA is predictive of the success/desire for the same camera in every market. I can say that in my market, the lower end for narrative production is pretty full of Black Magic and the higher end is skewed toward Sony and Red. When I've shown up places with the GFX 100, people see "Fuji" and make some comment about how they prefer FF to S35. 😆 (Dude, I know the GFX 100 II is smaller than the original, but does it really look like an S35 body to you, especially with the big chonky GF lens on the front?) I'll definitely look forward to hearing from BTM_Pix about what info can be gleaned on the show floor, especially if it's possible to put hands on the camera. I'd be genuinely excited if my prediction that it's "GFX 100 II in a box with better I/O" is wrong and it's able to merge the low RS mode and the high DR modes, even at 4K. Even more excited if it included a faster readout version of my beloved 5.8k widescreen mode.1 point -
It’s early days and we don’t know exactly what the final product is going to end up with right? Lots of time between now and when it’s released. Fun to speculate of course but yes it is a bold move by Fuji. And while the individual components in the preproduction model announcement might be existing tech, I would argue that it is indeed a bold camera. Andrew has already expounded on it better than I could so I won’t go into detail here. I know locally here in Los Angeles the Old Fast Glass, “Custom 65” rents out pretty much continuously and they’re building more to keep up with the demand. The fact that they even put that custom rig together and how popular it’s been show shows me that there is a desire for a camera like this and it’s been popular even in its limited speced, modded out version. For perspective, Canons are not renting at all for larger productions and even the new C400 is sitting around right now. It’s all Alexa Mini LF and 65 on the high end and FX6 with FX3 on the low end. Smaller owner operators are different but local DP’s love the idea of a cheaper Medium Format option that can use adapted vintage glass. All it will take is faster readout speeds and reduced rolling shutter to take it a level above where it’s at right now.1 point
-
Rolling shutter and bit depth will be the big question for this. As far at the 17K, I’m sure it will be similar to the new 12k which CineD just tested and seems pretty impressive. https://www.cined.com/blackmagic-ursa-cine-12k-lf-lab-test-rolling-shutter-dynamic-range-and-exposure-latitude/1 point

I'd say that just about any of Red's VV cameras are also competitors in the "bigger than FF, but not as big as 65mm" category. Unless I'm mistaken, they're all 40.96mm wide - so more than halfway between a 35.7mm (or so) full frame sensor and the 43.8mm GFX sensor size. A monstro brain sold on ebay in early September for $4,700. Add a $400 IO expander, $700 v-lock module, and some ridiculously overpriced mini-mags (which could be less expensive if the Jinnitech hack still works - just buy the smallest/cheapest one possible and swap it for bigger/better media and overwrite the needed SMART bits), and you're not too far off from $6k. Now if only the prices of DSMC2 accessories would drop to match the bodies...1 point -
