  3. You thought Lumix had left behind DfD behind? You're wrong! What a shame.

  4. I want BMD to release the Pocket 6K with an L Mount option, rather than only having it in EF

  5. Keep in mind also that the Ronin 4D isn't only L mount. That is one of 4 or 5 mounts available for it (for mine, I have DL, E, and M mounts - with M being the one I've been using exclusively since I got it, though I'll probably get a DL lens (probably the zoom) for use mounted on my car). Maybe that also means that L mount is also available on the Inspire 3? From what I remember, it's the same gimbal/camera as the Ronin 4D.

  6. I had the fan go on one of mine but as it was ‘like new’ used from MPB and under 6 month warranty, they just swapped it for another. Yes, it’s not in any way a bad chassis or anything but ‘mid’ is about the right term for it. The S9 is less than ‘mid’ IMO, but is what it is. I don’t mind if they reuse the chassis as long as they improve; the rear screen type and resolution plus upgrade the shutter button feel and sound, ie, damp it. EVF they can leave the same as I never use it. Oh and all the dials could do with a lock so you don’t accidentally knock them and not realise. Apart from that, not opposed to reusing the same basic chassis though. But really it needs to be something ‘more’ or it’s just another contender and there are already plenty of those.

  7. I'd love to see an fp Mini, an APS-C camera with IBIS and decent AF. That could be interesting, but it would be tough competition with the S9 unless it has a EVF and proper shutter. Now, I'm just dreaming. :-)

  8. There are actually 22 cameras as the S5D needs adding to the full frame count and the Leica T, TL and TL-2 to the APS-C count. There has been a 23rd camera announced which is still yet to actually hit the shelves yet which is the Lumix AW-UB50 box camera. Of course, its stretching a point a bit with the T/TL/TL-2 as they have been discontinued but then again so has the CL, which means there is no currently produced APS-C L mount camera. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see Sigma fill that void.

  10. I understand that most M43 cameras are about value. The OM-3 is not that. The pricing of the OM-3 says it. It should be cristal clear at this point. They're going after Leica wannabes, something that Olympus had done time and time again back in the days of Maitani Yoshihisa, a well-documented Leica lover.

Yeah it's too new to show up secondhand just yet in any sort of quantities. But you can find the Viltrox DC-X3 on Aliexpress and B&H: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1842381-REG/viltrox_dc_x3_6_touchscreen_hd_monitor.html Yup, sometimes there are moments in time when there are leaps forward in tech / affordability, such that it no longer makes sense to buy secondhand. For instance when the OG BMPCC went on sale for $500 it killed any reason whatsoever to buy a secondhand BMCC EF (in my personal opinion). Nope, but I've got a very old OG SmallHD 702 that's given up the ghost, and I would like to replace it. And from the research I've done recently, then the Viltrox DC-X3 seems like the best option right now. The only reasons I haven't pulled the trigger just yet is because: 1) only just recently came to this conclusion from doing the research into it, so still thinking over it, and I'm trying to spend less on gear in 2025. And I don't need need it just yet. Because I can just kinda get away with peeking at the other monitors at video village on a small budget shoot. Plus I have an old SmallHD Focus monitor, but it lacks loop through and lacks SDI 😕 However I have an HDMI to SDI converter. Clunky, but "works". 2) I quite like the 7" size of the 702, and if anything I'd rather go bigger than smaller with the 6" Viltrox DC-X3. However as a smaller level Production Sound Mixer I'm not sure I can truly justify the costs of a 10" SDI monitor. The leap up in price from 6" or 7" to 10" is quite significant, seems my only cheap option would be the Lilliput A11? So I dunno, haven't really decided yet if I'd rather go for the cheaper Viltrox DC-X3 (and better features/quality) vs the bigger and more expensive Lilliput A11. 3) spending money for a new monitor then opens the door to spending even more money... as I go down the slippery slope of "well, now I should upgrade / get more SDI cables?" then "but what about getting an SDI wireless transmitter? Some of these new ones look very tempting..." And before I know it I'm a few thousand dollars into monitors/cables/wireless/batteries/mounting/accessories/etc 4) with how common just casting video over WiFi is these days, maybe I could simply just live with dedicating one of my tablets to only this task and getting a cage for it? (to protect / mount it with) Am not focus pulling with it! So I can "live with" a small delay.

The screen is sharp with good color, every bit as good as the Focus 5. What I mean by quality control is I've had the touch control get finicky on me before, and the build is a little cheap.

  13. Yeah, I just don't feel like there's a unique reason to continue with Panasonic any more. For Micro Four Thirds, the OM-1 was the peak in terms of offering something different and fun vs the usual full frame work tools. For full frame, L-mount has gone backwards quite frankly from the S1H. Can anyone really say that after nearly SIX years there has been another L-mount camera that's better for filmmakers than the S1H? S5 is just a bargain bin version by comparison. S5 II had a few nice new features and the edge of affordability / phase-detect AF.... High-frame rates on the GH6 and GH7, a nice small full frame camera with the S9, but none of them are overall BETTER in every way than a 6 year old Panasonic S1H. And this is all rather disappointing because Panasonic are not supposed to spend 6 years going backwards. If it wasn't for my Sigma Fp-L I would have no L-mount cameras at all now. The SL2 is gone, S9 is gone, S5 II is sold and I just don't have any need for what it does compared to Sony, Fuji, Canon, Nikon and Olympus. This is why I think the problems at Panasonic are deeper than we think. I am a Lumix loyalist, a long-time early adopter and huge fan of what Panasonic did in the world of cameras, and not just with the GH2! To lose a customer like me is a very bad sign that they have fucked up.
