Android Filmic Pro: Disable digital video sharpening
Andrew Reid replied to Patrick B.'s topic in Cameras
How long before we get 8K RAW on a smartphone? Here is 7.2K RAW on the Mate 30 Pro (still DNG of course) Sensor quality gap is narrowing to enthusiast interchangeable lens cam Although something is wrong with how Adobe Camera Raw interprets colour -
That "crappy" 5D Mk II and the Panasonic GH1 are why this entire forum exists. It's about the liberty and artistic freedom you get from the small cameras and a democratic playing-field. A wonderful thing. But with Blackmagic URSAs, overkill Pocket 6K rigs and old camcorders we seem to be heading the opposite direction again. Yes I get that clients want HUGE expensive looking pro rigs, and there may be some business sense in investing in an Alexa, or even a poor man's Alexa. But selling Fuji X-T30 to get an F3 just seems pointless to me. A fun experiment, but hellish in reality. I wouldn't like to be the one handling that weight and inconvenient ergonomics, and the image quality 'advantages' are pretty dubious. It's such an old camera. It was nowhere near an Alexa or F35 in terms of a cinematic look and feel. Now we are much closer to an Alexa's image with something like an X-T30 or Panasonic S1, and you want to shoot F3... It's bonkers. In the short-lived era of the F3 in-between the small chip EX1 and much better FS7, how many people would have killed to have a 4K shooting X-T30? GH1 was successful for a reason and only shot AVCHD WHY!?

Subtly brilliant. Seems to work with my Mate 30 Pro. The file that comes out of it is quite incredible really. Definitely cinematic. -
I hear there is a new virus coming from cameras, the first camera to human transmission has happened already with Red users. They say the species of camera which originally spread the virus is the GFX 100 so if you come across one of those at Map Camera you better let them know you have come to take it away. Don't forget to go in wearing a biohazard suit. Wild camera markets should all be banned and any remaining Iscoramas sent to me so I can disinfect them safely. There is a very small chance the virus may mutate into something even more serious which literally makes Blackmagic users brains go invisible. To stop that happening and to avoid a worldwide blackmagic plague, Grant Petty must immediately put an EVF, IBIS, autofocus and E-mount on a 6K Pocket camera, and hand it out for free to EOSHD users. The WHO agrees that is the only solution.

Much as I enjoy talking about death statistics on a camera forum... Just going to point this out and be done with arguing with you. 0.02% between 10-39 died. If you take people in their 30's alone, the percentage is even smaller and probably only greater than zero because China murdered a doctor. So when you say "Actually virulent virus tends to take out proportionately greater numbers of young healthy people" Maybe it's you who doesn't know what you're talking about. Which is a bit worrying if you really do work for big pharma! Either that, or it doesn't apply in the case of the coronavirus and flu. Which is what we're talking about here. Still - It is a disaster and a tragedy for China and for the economy. My thoughts are with all those affected - the sick and those livelihoods ruined, from the lone businessmen to entire trades (like tourism) put on hold indefinitely. As for camera manufacturing, everyone who relies on a supply chain of parts from China will be impacted not just Sony. DRAM is a problem for Sony, you can't deny it. It is in every camera they make. If the supply dries up they are fucked. But yes... It's all the slow processor's fault if A7 IV doesn't have a fast DRAM buffered sensor readout 🤨

Art Adams in particular is excellent in this, really good explanations. Good video I'll be up for that mooted look at the Master prime anamorphics!!

Here was my take on it at the time https://www.eoshd.com/news/sample-sony-f3-footage-and-first-impressions/

Am I missing something from this F3 mojo trend? I never even thought it looked all that great in 2011 or whenever it was
-
So you are doing all this to look good in front of clients then?
-
They are still making the camera, it isn't cancelled, but they are dropping the stacked-DRAM sensor as a feature... Or possibly another feature reliant on more DRAM, like a larger buffer or 8K. It might not be the A7S III they are referring to but the A7 IV which is made in very large quantities and contains a lot of DRAM chips especially if half of them are bolted to the back of the sensor aka A9. In a situation where supply is very limited and your most important hardware release of the next 5 years is facing $450 BOM cost with price pressure from Microsoft, you do not aggravate the supply chain situation yourself, you go through every product with cutting edge expensive DRAM and do what you can to pair it back. This is what Sony is alleged to have done and I can see the logic in it.

Has someone been watching fox news... bloody hell Nope, this is a flu-like virus and flu is worse for old people with weaker immune systems. If you look at who has died the vast majority are older than their 30s. It is a novel virus never before seen. Humans have lived in close contact with domesticated animals for millions of years. If your dog sneezes on you, you are not likely to get a novel flu. The animal market in Wuhan did not contain domesticated animals, it was mainly wild. Exotic stuff like bats and snakes. Perhaps some ex-research centre rats with a cold. Or maybe a snake that sneezes followed by a long SSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Wuhan is not a high density rural area it's a city. You have just won the annual EOSHD award for most untruths in a single post, and it is not even yet March. Congratulations. Can somebody design him a trophy?

That is the whole point, they don't want it impacting products like the PS5... A massively important device for Sony's bottom line. How committed are Sony really to cameras? While I don't agree with PhotoRumours he does have a point: "I have been saying this for years - the moment the camera business gets challenging, Sony will back up or back out. The full-frame mirrorless market is a crowded, shrinking space now and it is not what it used to be 5 years ago when Sony basically was the only player. I expect to see more canceled Sony products in the future, cost-cutting measures, etc - pretty much everything that other photo companies are going through. The good part for Sony is that their camera business is basically a rounding error that has no impact on the company." No, the camera business is not basically 'a rounding error' it is far bigger than people give it credit for. But the moment it becomes difficult, Sony will prioritise other businesses.

I think the S1 codec (400Mbit 10bit 422) is as good as ProRes, in terms of the image quality. Full frame sensor look, can't beat it. Low light is much better than the URSA 4.6K which tops out around 1600 usable I believe? Put your Nikon Ai glass on it and you have overall 10+ features the Ursa doesn't have, like IBIS, in something much smaller and lighter. I reckon you'll be back in a month or so with one Enjoy your Ursa in the meantime though.

Yes, the filmmaker and his family sadly were not found a bed in hospital. They could have been saved. I also find it extremely sad and suspicious that the two main doctors who blew the whistle early on are dead.. One of them in his 30's. The virus has a 2% mortality rate and tends to impact old people worse, so the chances of a fit and healthy 30 year old doctor dying from the virus alone are very slim. I think there are factors at play we don't know about. I also find it hard to believe the virus came from a fish market, or from some sort of sneezing snake. Far more likely to have originated from the Wuhan institute of virology. "The laboratory took over a decade to complete from its conception in 2003, and scientists such as U.S. molecular biologist Richard H. Ebright expressed concern of previous escapes of the SARS virus at Chinese laboratories in Beijing, and the pace and scale of China's plans for expansion into BSL–4 laboratories." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuhan_Institute_of_Virology Why were the Chinese government so keen to cover it up in the first month of infection? It could even be possible for research lab animals to be sold on the black market and end up at the wild animals market in Wuhan.

4K on the A7R IV at 60MP is actually very good, it's a nice image. D850 from 46MP also very impressive. Does it pixel-peep as well as oversampled 6K? Is it as good in low light as an A7S? Not quite, but within the normal usable window where 90% of shots are it is closer than you'd think and up on the big screen it looks great. I see the EOS R6 having better 4K than the EOS R5. On the R5 it will probably be pixel binned 4K in full frame mode. If it is oversampled from 8K I'll be surprised, and if oversampled from 6K it'll have a crop. Rolling shutter in 8K will be something to watch out for. It'll probably be quite bad, if you look at current fastest electronic shutter (Sony A9), that is a 24MP chip with stacked DRAM. The 'normal' 24MP chips have quite bad rolling shutter in 6K full pixel readout stills mode. So either Canon has a very fast running sensor the likes we have never seen before, or there will be a big trade off somewhere. That's why I think its sensible to wait for the R6 specs to come out. Maybe wait until June to make a decision. As per the R6 rumours, 1D X III specs in a mirrorless camera for $3000 would be very attractive, especially if they keep internal 5.5K RAW in there.

The XH is a Hybrid line, hence the H! More of a GH5-type camera than something aimed predominantly at stills shooters. Yes the ergonomics are improved over the XT line, so it's frustrating to see two years pass, two big video-related improvements to the XT line but nothing for the XH line as if it has been scrapped due to internal Fuji politics or something. They should really set the record straight and tell us if one is coming or not. I'll be holding off my X-T4 purchase until I know if there will be an X-H2!

Yes I absolutely do hold a grudge after my Pocket 6K debacle and being treated like an idiot by Patrick Hussey at IBC. My support of Blackmagic ended there and then. It's over. You can point out all the wonderful unique features to me until you are blue in the face mate. It doesn't change anything. They have lost a customer in me and someone who was there right from the first camera. Perhaps you can get back on topic and re-read the original post in this thread which actually has nothing to do with SSD recording or mini XLRs... It's about people. About the staff who have been mistreated. For me this is an ethical problem, going far beyond whether an LCD is visible in daylight or not.

This was a nice moment at IBC 2019. Hopefully John can come back and tell us about the Olympus! He's much missed here.

Looks like we'll get full comprehensive specs and cripple hammer list in under 4 weeks then, which is good news.... As for going to Birmingham...
