  1. His powers of prediction failed him here though: I counted 34 adverts on that single page by the way, all with who-knows how many tracking cookies. 43rumours is like if I collected up all the Vietnamese spambot content and promoted it to occupy 8 tenths of the EOSHD home page.
  2. Not yet, but definitely before the Russian interference report which names 9 Tory donors! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50366956
  3. Look at this pair of kitchen items having an argument http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22998/olympus-closure-is-near-can-happen-in-less-than-8-months/ https://www.43rumors.com/fake-rumors-olympus-will-not-quit-the-camera-business-within-8-months/ Olympus shutting down apparently, according to our favourite GH2 ex-hacker. And 43rumours had the temerity to call someone out for fake news! ????????
  4. Jarred Land posted today on REDUser about REDCODE (RED’s compressed RAW codec) withstaning the patent challenge by Apple. Although the court documents haven’t been updated in public from what I can see, it does appears Cupertino have failed where Sony previously failed. Now the stage is set for some negotiations, with RED being in pole position. Read the full article
  5. Some nice shots from Steve McCurry here and interview https://www.leica-camera.blog/2019/11/06/steve-mccurry-china/ Panasonic can learn a lot from the Leica minimalist approach to designing the camera body.
  6. Solid... More like amazing. Very generous indeed for G9 users. First ever firmware update to change a camera from 8bit to 10bit, I think, no?
  7. Read the chart mate... It says there... C4K FF 4K 60p Long GOP 8bit internal. 10bit is only up to 30p.
  8. Big ole PDF on the camera from FDTimes here: https://2stxv23ezngh2b8peu3esf6u-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/98FDTimes-1.16-Leica-SL2.pdf • Frame rates for both C4K and UHD resolutions are 24, 25, 29.97, 50 and 59.94 fps at 10-bit 4:2:2. • Up to 29.97 fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 can be recorded internally onto an SD card. • 50 and 59.97 fps 10-bit 4:2:2 can be recorded externally via the full size HDMI output. • All 10-bit files can be stored in a .MOV container format at high data rates on the SD card with ALL-INTRA (low) com- pression. Every frame keeps all its information. This results in higher quality (but larger files.) • FHD is available up to 150 -180 fps, but only 8-bit. • The SL2 can record 5K in a 1.33:1 (4:3) aspect ratio in Super35 Crop Mode. This could be interesting for anamorphic lenses. Recording is 10-bit 4:2:0 on the internal SD card. (The HDMI output is not capable of 5K.) • The 10-bit 4:2:2 formats allow the use of Rec. 709, Rec. 2020 (HLG) and L-Log. Leica L-Log has been completely re-de- signed with improved characteristics. An internal and external LUT for preview is available. • The SL2 also offers more compressed 8-bit 4:2:2 Long-GOP files in Rec. 709 .MP4 containers for immediate distribution or proxy editing. THEY FINALLY FIXED THE LOG PROFILE The bitrate for ALL-I DCI 4K is 400Mbit 5K is 200Mbit 4:2:0 Long GOP (no ALL-I) No 5K over HDMI, it gets down-converted to standard 4K
  9. Recent high-profile criticism levelled at Leica, is that they’re becoming a 'software company' rehousing hardware from China and Japan. Although the Leica SL2 (“Made in Germany!”) uses virtually all of the internal hardware as the Panasonic S1R – sensor, EVF, stabilisation, along I suspect with most of the mainboard too and firmware programmed by Panasonic (with menus designed by Leica), I do feel it brings something very important to the artist’s table beyond numbers. 10. You are correct... And also the first posts are often cut & paste from Reddit, so I am doing Google searches now to screen those out. It's a pity the Google Captcha and email verification aren't enough to stop them creating an account in the first place. I'll see what else there is to make that more robust. One day I hope to leave my AI to fight off enemy AI, and leave us to get on with using the forum in peace!!

    Spamming

Internet is going to be truly done for when AI progresses to next step. Maybe at some point they'll be so believable we'll all be rubbing our cameras in CBD oil.
  12. User acting suspiciously? They might be a replicant. Please report their username here and I will take them down.

    Spamming

This is very strange. Every day I pre-vet new posts from new users, and every day I ban at least 2 or 3 spambots. So how they are getting through my approval queue, I don't know. Are they cutting and pasting believable posts written by somebody previously on the forum to get through that step? I don't know. I'll look into it. Just created a post where you can report bots here:
  14. Got a 10K experiment going on with that. 10K resolution in iRacing Prefer it to VR. 3x 4K screens even quite cheap these days.
  15. You can bet your house that when we have 8K 120fps, people will be disappointed. Fundamental human flaw! Never happy with what we have, always want what we can't. I suppose in a way it drives progress and innovation... the restlessness... but it also creates a relentless pace in the world, where we don't for one moment stop to enjoy what we have. Full frame sensors have only just become fast enough to do 6K readout at 24p, or Super 35mm crop for 4K/60p. A remarkable achievement, let's remember that. I agree... Should be more funky RAW stuff around for artists to play with... Although the technology has always been around, the desire from major manufacturers hasn't. And perhaps it should tell us something that Ikonoskop and Digital Bolex both went out of business! It's not easy.
  16. On the Sigma Fp it is definitely worth shooting 12bit RAW to a USB C SSD drive, if you want to make full use of the dynamic range. If you don't need to boost the shadows by 3-4 stops, or under expose by 3-4 stops to prioritise a particularly bright part of the frame, the 8bit RAW to SD card offers beautiful results too. 17. The crop to my eye (not scientific) is about 1.2x or 1.3x crop in full frame mode with EIS activated. You also have an actual 4K Super 35mm crop mode as well (1.5x). You can only enable EIS in MOV 4K mode not Cinema DNG. When I use the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 in full frame EIS mode, it still vignettes a bit in the corners at 18mm but fine at 35mm. You'd need to crop a bit more in post to get the wide end to look ok.
  18. LOG profile, headphone jack, articulated screen, phase-detect AF would all have been welcome. But it is clearly not enough for some people that it shoots 4K RAW to SD cards from a full frame sensor, in a camera little more larger in size than a pack of cards, for under $2000!
  19. F8 for portraits indoor? Seems fishy to me. I doubt they are testing the cameras at all. Seems like clickbait.
  20. Did you see any puffins? I very much enjoyed Iceland myself last year. Great place to hire a car and go out to explore, and some of the bus tours were wonderful as well. I see you found the plane wreak. I didn't see that. Also went at the wrong time for the Aurora!! Ooops! Some nice shots in there, well done.
  21. Hoping Sigma will stick to this form factor, there is something magic about it - but future version does need an EVF and articulating screen, much like the RX1R II managed, in the same small body as the Fp. So it is possible. Oh and phase-detect AF on the sensor please. For first gen model, it is very complete... and I can probably sell my Pocket 4K now as well as the Leica Q.
  22. I really rate the Sigma colour profiles. They have carried over some Foveon skills into this image processor. The standard profile looks very natural, and the main thing Vivid does is give you a warmer look, a more Canon-like look - rather than just increasing the saturation of standard. Uniquely you can dial up and down a profile overall from -5 to +5, blending with standard at -5 and increasing the difference at +5 The teal & orange "Hollywood" profile is not overdone and nicer than the cinema profile. The cinema profile suits very specific shots. The T&O looks good on almost everything. Beautiful. Although there is not yet a LOG profile, the Sigma Fp product manager is from Samsung - I don't expect their run of firmware updates to hold back on new features!! NX1 owners will know what I am talking about! The nod to Magic Lantern with 8bit Cinema DNG is as much a statement of intent, as it is a beautiful image. I am in love with this camera.
  23. Good point. Not a scientific test, just booting these frames out there. Needless to say, downscaling 4K CDNG 8bit in post to 1080p or 2.8K should result in less noise and cleaner shadows than the pixel binned 1080p CDNG internal 8bit, and maybe even 10bit.
