  1. Canon 1D C Sony A7S II Different opinions are fine but Alternative Facts aren't. Even a blind person can feel very clearly what the difference is because one is positively radioactive. And these are RAWs straight off the SD card with no colour adjustment whatsoever. The amount of time and skill it would take to create a custom grade for that Sony RAW still so that it matches the Canon would be immense. One preset might not work for all shots, you'd have to tailor it. The Sony has green and yellow going on with skin, whether it is in the RAW file or the JPEG, it needs adjusting no matter what. And while it's true you have more headroom to adjust it in RAW than JPEG, it is still time and effort down the drain.
  2. "This bitch is a show-stopper" "They have underpriced it" "It's the best camera ever made" ------- YouTube huh? The site's getting a bit of a reputation. It needs to change... Or die.
  3. It's always been the same. Open raw. Apply contrast to liking. Done. No effort whatsoever. Took this with a £65 Canon G10 compact (CCD) in Barcelona: If I'd used a Sony, it would probably have been pink.
  4. With the Sony A7S II, the RAWS were always just as much of a fucking problem. This A7S II RAW is opened in Photoshop ACR, with nothing changed but a slight boost in contrast and saturation, saved as a JPEG for the forum. Absolutely dreadful and takes hours of time and expertise to correct multiple files. Why waste such talent on such a talentless camera? The shadow on her neck is a dirty yellow stain. This isn't how healthy skin looks. And below is the EXACT SAME process for the Canon 1D C RAW shot on the same day, same girl, same light... The problems are the skin tones. You don't notice it in the landscape behind her or even her hair so much, just the skin. YELLOW as a banana on the Sony shot. So those labouring under the illusion that colour science doesn't matter because you can edit the RAW, can stop now. There are also major problems on the OS side. Camera manufactures need to work together with computerland and become less walled off in Japan. They need better communication, better translators and more of them. Recent Apple display use Display P3 profile by default. The conversion from SRGB or AdobeRGB camera files to P3 adds it's own flavour to colour and not all of it very positive. If you set the display to SRGB the Canon looks even better and the Sony looks even worse. So what you are seeing on your display might not be the truth or even close.
  5. Well done for discovering the upmost shit on YouTube that sums up everything I hate about the worst YouTuber tendencies. That is quite some find. HYPE HYPE HYPE Shilly McShillFace and his background porno musak, says the SEPERATE QUICK FUNCTION MENU is a MAJOR VIDEO FEATURE as he puts a 1000 watt grin on. Who needs a 10bit codec or 4K/60P when you have THAT kind of advancement in the market place?!?! WHAT ELSE IS NEW JOHNNY SHILL IN New York NEW YORK? OH MY GOD IT'S A GAME CHANGER NEXT!! You can change the naming format of video clips. WHATEVER NEXT FOR OUR MEASILY $3500 POCKET CHANGE!? GLOBAL SHUTTER!??! No---No--- wait for it...waaaait for it... YOU CAN SAVE YOUR MENU SETTINGS IN A FILE! (Although if you format the card they vanish) Video then ends... And it's his sponsor ad for next hour (at least it felt like an hour). Oh and there's EYE AF. But of course, you make far more advertising money from a 6 minute YOUTUBE HYPE PIECE than a one line blog post saying: Big new features for video: EYE AF. Erm that's about it. (End of article). I'll zip the original JPEGs up and send you to Spec Savers if it helps? Also Canon CS is the most consistent across camera bodies... Speaking from someone who actually has a 5D Classic, a 1D C and EOS R in front of me right now.
  6. Sony A7S II: Canon 1D C same shoot, same day, same light, same girl: Sony A7S II (The Death Cam): Canon 1D C, 10 seconds later SHE LIVES! Sony ZombieCam Mark II: Canon 1D C ? Funnily enough these 1D C JPEGs direct from the card looked much better on one of my Macs compared to the other, so monitor profiles and display settings matter as well. Although it's not just the camera... I also agree with the point @Mattias Burling is making about colour in RAWs. Minimum effort counts for a lot. Who wants to go manually correcting 1000's of RAW files? What a fucking ball ache! Default colour in RAW matters just as much. No matter what software you use, you want to open it and do a few simple changes or preset moods and have it singing. Same with video and LOG. Sony A7 III got a bit better for colour, but I still don't use it much. The other thing that matters is white balance, and even the lens. Lenses can have different colour biases. Pro Color exists for a reason I didn't create it on a whim. It solves a real issue with Sony's video processing and I should do the same for their RAW stills as well! Be honest with yourself... have you used Venice CS? Or are you parroting a second hand experience of it versus Canon? Again same thing with the Nikons... You've got to use them on a subject, then decide.
  7. Good suggestions! I agree there should be better measurements, and all in one place under set conditions. According to the C5D results, the Sony A5100 in standard Creative Style has 1 stop more dynamic range than a GH5 shooting V-LOG The X-T2 is 1 stop higher than X-T3. Eh! Also what matters are not even the numbers, when it comes to DR, but the usability of the image when pushed to the max, the colours, the lack of artefacts in the pushed dark regions and the look of highlight roll off.
  8. There needs to be some sort of external DAC for all these things. Or rather external A/D. For example a USB C mic adapter would be good for something like the Ninja or a mirrorless cam... bypass all that noisy analogy circuitry.
  9. I think Quad Bayer makes sense for the A7S, no longer does it have to be crippled to 12 megapixels to satisfy low light performance... And it can do 8K as well. So there you have it... Still time for Sony to do us proud with truly more exciting stuff than the dull A7R IV.
  10. In crop mode yeah. A lot of money to spend just to get mechanical focus. Do you know that older lenses do exist, right?!
  11. So let's get this straight. They spent millions developing a sensor which shoots 9K 24p and 8K 60p but didn't bother implementing either in any end-product?!
  12. Why do I need to? IT'S ON SHELVES NOW! BUY BUY BUY!
  13. "Nikon Z6 filmmaker's kit is first camera to shoot 12bit RAW" "When?" "Later this year........... Proooobably" "So is it available to buy now" "ABSOLUTELY! ON DEALER'S SHELVES NOW!!"
  14. Sony's image sensor monopoly is very dangerous. If I were any government with half a brain, I'd be looking at how dominant they are in that market. At the same time it's up to the competition to step it up. Too many companies, very respectful and good ones, just seem to find it easier to buy a Sony sensor rather than develop their own. They should ask themselves what might happen if over night, Sony suddenly decides to downgrade all the customer parts and reserve much better sensors only for themselves. This is unlikely to happen, but if other companies don't develop their own sensors, how are they supposed to leap-frog Sony in image quality? Samsung, Fuji and Panasonic are trying but Sony still providing manufacturing for their products as well... even Samsung's! (Smartphone sensors).
  15. They haven't dumped it. They've mentioned it's development in interviews. The timing is badly off though. Far too long a wait... And I bet it won't be creative or revolutionary either.
  16. Let's keep A7R IV in it's box here https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/28270-sony-a7r-iv-a7s-iii-a9-ii-to-feature-8k-video-as-new-60mp-and-36mp-full-frame-sensor-specs-leak/page/19/#comments These images were fake so I'll lock this topic for sanity's sake.
  17. I'd be interested to see how you get on with the H. That was on my list for a while but never saw one in the shops. Do you still get the best Foveon quality going Sigma Photo Pro or has DNG caught up?
  18. Focus by wire doesn't have to suck, if only they got the programming right. EF lenses don't have hard stops either. The mechanical feel is very good in the clutch-mode Olympus lenses.
  19. Well we don't need to stay patient and wait 4 years for Sony. We have the S1... S1H. We have Fuji X-T3... X-T30 even cheaper. Nikon Z6 bargain. Plenty of alternatives now compared to when the GH5 / A7S II were only game in town. Not to mention the Blackmagic Pocket 4K
  20. Did they? Could have fooled me. I don't think they said anything as specific... They just announced it, then fucked off. Atomos said NAB "but"...
  21. Even Johnnie looks confused why he exposed his own face 3 stops under
