  1. Yes it's ok to use something off your shelf if you see it / find it for £200 or less. It's proving it that's the more tricky part as the deal may not be around when it comes to reveal what you used. I'd say a photo of the camera in the store next to the price tag would suffice. The real crux of the challenge is to make something much worse than 4k look good though. Much, much worse See you have grappled that challenge admirably so far.
  2. Grant Petty has always impressed. It must be tricky as the company grows to have everybody go forwards with the same engineering spirit. He's done a superb job. What needs tweaking is the marketing and communications side. These old LCD bodies are going to be like gold dust and worth double, triple, quadruple or more in a few years Maybe that's the Chinese guy's game, with the articulated hinge... Secretly swap the panels! Keep them for himself!
  3. Maybe there should be more than one public vote. One in the category of pixel peeping image quality... best resolution, best dynamic range, etc, etc. And one judging the talent behind the camera? Because sometimes people don't focus on both at once

  5. Because he's going to have to hand his camera to somebody? Only kidding, sure you won't be I like the suggestion by the way from BTM that the winner of the vote should shoot something with the last place person's camera when he receives it. I have another suggestion... maybe they hand it back to the poor guy someday later so they feel at least a bit less bad?! And I would like the winner to perhaps pass on some shooting tips to them, in a little letter when they return it. What do you guys think?
  6. Like I say, it's easier to understand what RAW is if you look at Magic Lantern, it's very simple stuff. The sensor -> Live view buffer -> Raw data direct to the card = RAW video. Only advanced raw codecs and compression need extra processing power. Unprocessed raw virtually none... And 12 bit RAW can be a form of compression that reduces file sizes, as can using lower resolutions. All cameras that have live-view are doing raw video. Yes even a $50 compact from 2004.
  7. No let's keep things simple. Rules in blog post are final and not subject to change. If somebody wants to shoot film (or tape!!) they can do but the film stocks and processing I'd consider part of the $200. Looking forward to seeing the first videos pop up in this thread.
  8. It's definitely 100% capable of it. If a 2019 Canon 50D can be HACKED into doing raw video to old compact flash cards, Nikon has zero excuses on a 4K 2019 camera with XQD! All cameras video comes off the sensor as raw data... In this case 6K full pixel readout raw data. 6K RAW to XQD card is not beyond this camera, and neither is 4K or 1080p raw.

  10. Reviews are out already?! I didn't even realise the lens had been released by Panasonic yet. Oh and it's not better than a prime. F1.7 is cute but there's: Voigtlander 10.5mm F0.95 Voigtlander 17.5mm F0.95 Voigtlander 25mm F0.95 Also, I really do highly rate the Olympus F1.2 primes (17mm and 25mm) That Panasonic 12mm F1.4 is a gem and a lot smaller. Not bashing it, just cutting through the hype machine a bit. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the Sigma 18-35mm on a Speed Booster.

  12. Where's Vitaliy Kiselev when you need him? As it's FFPGA update, probably not a good idea to have a hack go wrong though. So to clarify this, if you got a Pocket 4K early on and it came with 6.1 or older, you can swap and choose between the latest firmware and old one... What if latest firmware at some point installs a software update which prevents rollback? Bit risky if you ask me. I'll stick with CDNG and watch the eBay resale value sky rocket

  15. Yes I think I remember it mentioned as supported but again need to check. I can't agree. While they are not bad lenses it doesn't make sense to invest $$$ in lenses which can't be adapted, especially ones as boring as the small Z range released so far. I get much more value from my Canon EF lenses as they're usable on so much. Whereas E-mount lenses make more sense as well. My Sony FE 35mm F1.4 has the Zeiss pop and 3D rendering. It is superior the Nikon Z 35mm F1.8. That lens is by no means a BAD lens but my Sony cost less (used in very good condition) and is flat out superior, faster, and better built. My Sony Batis lenses, 25mm F2 and 85mm F1.8 are also Zeiss glass, and look incredible. Nikon doesn't even have an answer for Z mount. No fast 24mm or 85mm primes yet! What were they thinking? F4 is too slow for a zoom for me, and 70mm too short, so the 24-70 Z, while relatively affordable and compact is BORING, compared to Canon's incredible 28-70mm F2.8 from the 90's which is par focal and $300... And what's more, I can use these lenses on countless Sony bodies, and not just my Z6. Nikon's main mistake with the.Z series lenses so far, has been the pricing. Charging $600-$900 for F1.8 primes, I don't care how good they are, it doesn't match market expectations when everything else in this region by Canon, Sigma, Sony and Nikon is F1.4 and their F1.8 lenses are in the bargain bins. See how much a Canon 50mm F1.8 costs you or a 35mm F1.8 Nikon.
  16. As long as the body currently sells for under $200 by itself, if you bought this lens, then you can use the body. No expensive lenses in the competition please! Colour grading is allowed. Unless there is a big push back against it. I think with a cheap camera, you're probably not going to get far before the codec falls apart anyway $160 seems incredibly cheap to me, check if they are faulty units or very very used condition. Maybe we should go off an average price like $250. LX100 a bit too rich for the spirit of the competition. Remember it's not just about the rules but the spirit of the rules as well! You will risk getting downvoted if you push your luck on price and go too high spec. Isn't it better to make something a bit cheaper look really cool? Be more like @BTM_Pix with his 50 quid wonder As far as the judge's prize goes... If you are maxing out the $200, shooting 4K and using an F0.95 lens on it, your cinematography is going to have to be Roger Deakins level to win it ?

  19. The Leica M AF packs up and goes home in video mode. Stills only. I've updated the firmware of it (via the bluetooth smartphone updater app from Techart) and still no luck stacking it on the Z6. Native Sony E mount lenses working amazingly in video mode though on the Techart Z-E mount adapter... Glued to the subject. While I await response from Techart I'm going to see if there's a new firmware via USB lens cap for the TZE
  20. I've contacted them to see what is going on. Hopefully it's just a firmware update away from not being a total disappointment.
