  1. I'm guessing they wouldn't have a Samsung T5 in this shot, unless it was used for Cinema DNG It's a cinema rig setup after all!
  2. It's practically an interchangeable lens Sony RX1 with 2019 specs. Quite amazing really. Going to be huge fun for stills, not just video. I say give it a go. Foveon has amazing film qualities and colour, but they really need to sort the low light out before I use a Foveon camera as my main one.
  3. Now that's what I call a pocket cinema camera. Probably uses same BSI Sony sensor as the Nikon Z6 and Panasonic S1. The DNG I hope is to USB C SSD drive. Not going to be very ergonomic putting a big brick of a recorder on such a small pocket camera. Looks almost like an interchangeable lens Sony RX1 for stills... glorious. Knowing Sigma I am sure the price will be competitive. 4K ALL-I H.264 nice to see for internal recording. Any idea what bitrate? Sigma LOG? I see it has a Teal & Orange film style!! I love Sigma. Now let's hope RED don't claim patent dispute over Cinema DNG.
  4. They've not quite revealed all yet, but it had the flip screen which YouTubers like, it has the ALL-I codec, apparently does still have IBIS (unlike GH5S), will lose weather sealing due to the vent, and it has full-on anamorphic modes. What more it does, we'll have to wait and see!
  5. Managed to activate my code today. From the first shot I could see the improvement. 10bit 422 V-LOG with V-Gammut has truly punted this thing into PRO CINEMA territory.
  6. That would win the internet. Panasonic would get more attention for that than for winning the camera specs war!
  7. Maybe they merged some of the Varicam firmware into it? Or maybe it just has a really big library or 3rd party tool inside?!
  8. Wonder if they merged the S1 and S1H firmware? If it now powers both cameras that would explain the big size!
  9. The GH5S 400Mbit is ALL-I, and you need that higher bitrate to maintain the quality in ALL-I, with each frame needing to be compressed independently. 150Mbit V-LOG (with V-Gamut colour science from Cinema Varicam) is Long GOP so you do not need 400Mbit. The compression method is more efficient, so you can use lower data rates. Will be interesting to compare them nevertheless.
  10. Well they helped kill of Flash, and H.265 is a superior codec to VP9, so maybe they do.
  11. My guess would be the retailers aren't keen on Panasonic selling direct to customers and pocketing all the profit themselves. In return for widespread promotion of the upgrade, the retailers wanted in. Unfortunately the retailers and Panasonic didn't come up with a better solution than a bit of cardboard in a box!
  12. Oh dear, does it?! Looks like I am going to have to migrate to Firefox then. Safari, you lose.
  13. Panasonic Japan helped me out with a key, so I was not a "normal customer" in this regard. The packet they send out is same process as GH5 + V-LOG upgrade. I am sure it will arrive promptly in a lot less than 28 days but an AppStore with instant delivery would have been far preferable in my view. That £2349 is a bargain but yes it's grey import from HK I believe.
  14. Some instructions and useful links here for getting the upgrade https://www.eoshd.com/2019/07/the-panasonic-s1-codec-upgrade-is-out-now-update-to-firmware-1-2-and-redeem-code/
  15. Today the Panasonic S1 gets the new V1.2 firmware update which brings the capability to unlock the catchily dubbed DMW-SFU2 upgrade capabilities. Full V-LOG (not "L"), Cinema VariCam colour science (V-Gamut) and 10bit codec upgrade to 4K 4:2:2 150Mbit are the main features. As well as that there's LUT support in camera, high res 24bit audio and other exciting improvements. Read the full article
  16. Try and watch any new 4K video, trailer or camera test on YouTube in Safari - you will see 1080p or 1440p max! Until Apple and Google stops ripping off their customers with silly codec wars, here is a solution I've found to get 4K YouTube videos working again in Safari. Read the full article
  17. 9 minutes 50 seconds record limit in 4K No 4K/24p No phase-detect AF (like RX100 V that uses same sensor) No slow-mo 240/480fps modes I am still interested in G7X III for the colour science alone, but that's about it vs RX100 series.
  18. It certainly shows the importance of watching it in the right browser. And people seem to pay a lot of attention to colour grading and lenses, as far as the mood goes.
  19. Unbelie-fucking-vable. It does indeed show in 4K in Chrome on my MacBook Pro 15"... And it looks WAY BETTER. Less compressed. Big difference between cameras now.
  20. This is what I get... Is it Google playing silly buggers with MacBook Retina display users?
  21. Don't bother, I won't be wasting time reading what you have to say... And if you hijack another discussion and make it about me, you will be out with no further warning.
  22. You seem to have an axe to grind Castorp. Maybe a previously banned member who has rejoined. Don't make every one of your posts about me, otherwise you will be out of this place faster than you can type Anthropomorphising.
  23. DPReview say the GFX 100 is giving the best image they've ever tested... I'd say the S1R does even better in Pixel Shift mode https://***URL removed***/news/6009498706/fujifilm-gfx100-sets-new-benchmark-in-our-studio-scene Impressive stuff from Panasonic to better the resolving power of 100 megapixel medium format.
  24. Ok, right. Hopefully, we can be on the topic of a certain Blackmagic camera from this point onwards... Plenty to talk about!
