  1. Interesting thread. I think not having an L-mount on there is going to be a mistake, but maybe they have data from their 10 years in the Micro Four Thirds consortium we're not aware of and it apparently makes sense to break from Panasonic entirely and go their own way. I can't see Sigma being too excited about making glass for their camera though, if that's what's going to happen.
  2. I've shot quite a bit of video for first time on the 50S at Photokina, so you'll find out tomorrow or the day after once I've had a chance to edit it. Will be better than 5D Mark III but the codec is quite a basic one and there's no Eterna or F-LOG (at least not yet). Rolling shutter would be a bit wobbly if it did I think it'll do a high quality pixel binning process like the A7R III and Z7.
  3. Yes absolutely. The FD 24 1.4 is a classic as well. Here's a shot from that on the Fuji GFX 50S: It has some vignetting in medium format mode, but the looks special
  4. This is a very curious beast. 37MP sensor with 4K output? Must be a new one, never seen it in anything else before. You'd think Zeiss would use a Sony 42MP or something existing. Wonder who did the firmware? Bluetooth L.E. is in there! I think it will live and die by the touch screen user interface, implementation of Lightroom and the price. The 4K could be interesting if it's not a big crop. RX1R II doesn't have 4K. Neither does Leica Q!
  5. Everyone is justified in their own needs. Personally I need proper video specs. Canon keep fluffing it. The 1D C was amazing. Such unfulfilled potential. On the stills side, I still use my 1D C and 1D X Mark II. I enjoy Magic Lantern as well. On the reliability and pro side, yes Canon are leading the field. Colours are fantastic. All this is why I am passionate about Canon, passionate enough to rip into them on the blog when they treat video users with such disregard. It's almost like it's personal! Do they hate us?! I know so many people who have switched to Sony, so it only hurts Canon's bottom-line at the end of the day. I am not interested in their bottom line as a customer or their business strategy. If they want to be clever about protecting Cinema EOS from stills camera side of the business then that is up to them. I, as a customer, am only interested in the cameras and not their executive bonuses or share price. Through old sensor tech and 1.8x crop, they lost a sale with the EOS R from me. Also, having now had my hand on the body, I am not very impressed with the in-hand feel at all. Feels CHEAP. Sure and AF is vital. Miss an important shot on a pro shoot, you're fucked. Why risk it. Select solid, reliable Canon. But art is about more than just shot getting, for me. I have that luxury, to piss around a bit more and experiment more. Not everyone does that on every paid gig, and I totally understand that!! So for them, rock solid reliable AF is vital, and there, Panasonic is the one fluffing it. True, but that doesn't disqualify people from being excited about new releases and innovation, does it? New technology is a passion in itself. Canon is boring in that regard. Absolutely true. I am using a 1976 Canon FD lens on a Fujifilm medium format camera. The look is amazing. Canon don't have the body, Fujifilm do. But their lenses are fantastic and have been for 50+ years. The FD series set the benchmark and cut out the template for the modern EF range. 24 f1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2 - all total classics. If I wrote EOSHD from the perspective of someone who only shoots 1080p, it would be of zero use to anyone. But I can perfectly understand why some paid work is still shot in such an old video standard.
  6. All of the following photos were shot with my Canon FD 85mm F1.2 from 1976 on the Fujifilm GFX 50S. Medium format at F1.2?! Yes, it works and no vignetting! I am really interested in what Fuji is doing at the moment, but with the most interesting cameras at the show just a development announcement and dummy body-design, we'll have to wait a bit longer for them to truly reveal their cards. 7. Blackmagic not at the show unfortunately. Got invited to see them in London, just debating whether to go and get roped into the PR side or not
  8. Good stuff here. I'm making a list. Keep it coming
  9. What topics shall I broach with the manufacturers? Throw any ideas my way and I'll do my best to find answers!
  10. It's full frame but 0.8x crop! F1.2 = looks like F0.95 on full frame. But glass can be much cheaper (adapted). Canon FD 85mm F1.2L cost me 600 euro. It's a monster, no vignetting. Bear in mind true medium format goes larger than the Fujifilm GFX 50S. My Hasselblad H3D-39II has a even larger sensor so adjust that 0.8x. Medium format is also about resolution - both sensor and glass. You can still have a very shallow DOF stopped down at F4, with supreme sharpness compared to a fast lens wide open. On the sensor side, 100MP would be pretty noise on a full frame sensor, without some sort of technological breakthrough. When the inevitable happens and we move to 8K, meanwhile medium format could have a significant dynamic range and high ISO advantage over full frame.
  11. They finally put a Speed Booster on a Lumix!! ? But seriously, amazing achievement. $2k isn't bad. 28-70 f2 EOS R is $3k remember, and that is 1.8x crop with no wide end.
  12. Maybe there will be a video orientated SH1? Or maybe a T version for "Tilt screen. Although if they call it the SH1T, it wouldn't translate well. In fact I'm calling it now... SH1...you heard it here first ?
  13. This will be a short part 1, as I am about to get on my way from Berlin to Cologne to see all the new stuff at Photokina for myself! It's been a mammoth few weeks for camera announcements and these two top them all. First from Panasonic we have the first ever full frame cameras to shoot 4K/60p, beating Sony to the punch. Their A7S III is STILL not yet announced. The Panasonic S1 and S1R are probably why! For video they beat every full frame camera past, present and future! Second we have the Fujifilm GFX 100MP development announcement, which will be a 2019 $10,000 medium format mirrorless camera. They also have a cheaper 50R "rangefinder" style GFX body at the show ($4500) but that is 1080p only like the GFX 50S it's based on. It is the 100 megapixel one I am really interested in. 14. Yeah I should try it! I'll be up for giving it a go when I get my new anamorphic sorted out with a clamp.
  15. I can feel my passion coming back for the GH5. I wonder if he used the SLR Magic Rangefinder on his Kowa 8-Z. This is my setup with the Kowa anamorphic. Really nice to focus. Will have to try and get hold of that Nikkor he used though, it clearly adds something dreamy and extra.
  16. That is the Kowa 8Z anamorphic in action according to the guy who shot it. On a very old 50's Nikon lens. I think people notice things like that more than the codec. But what it also says, is how well 8bit stands up and that camera in low-light. Didn't expect such a creamy look to the shadows. Yes, all new cameras are a bit overhyped... but I can't wait to put my Iscorama on an X-T3 and shoot 4K 60p.
  17. Why spend time pining for a Blackmagic P4K when the GH5 does footage like this in 8bit 4K 50p? Not even 10bit!! How can it get any better? Invest in glass!
  18. Maybe you're just seeing the flaw in the ND for the first time due to extremely flat F-LOG and smooth 10bit tonality? Was it a very low contrast shot which had the shift? I've used a cheap vari-nd on my X-H1 and had no issues. Got a B+W nano coming soon, will try that on the X-T3.
  19. It's unlikely to be the colour filter array of the sensor. What brand of ND and what taking lens?
  20. *the same sensor* Yep!! Nobody has done the most obvious comparison yet!!
  21. I can imagine it now Range of function buttons next to the OLED in the hotshoe. Instant toggling on/off of F-LOG (because you can't assign it to a fn. button on the camera) Hopefully a bluetooth / wifi hack can toggle between stills and movie mode too... To save us the hassle of that drive lever in the inaccessible top left corner! What's not working well about it? Colour shifts?
  22. You look at a top display to see ISO, shutter speed, exposure comp... Well those are clearly visible from the top of the camera because they are physical dials on the X-T3, so the top LCD is more a nicety than a must-have here. I do prefer the ergonomics of the X-H1 but they are both nice to be honest. Got the battery grip as well, it feels like a mini 1D X II with that attached.
