  1. If you're worried about the bitrate why aren't you complaining the Nikon Z6 "only" shoots 140Mbit H.264 8bit? Surely 140Mbit equivalent H.265 in 10bit is superior to that. And definitely superior to the A7 III 4k H.264 at only 100Mbit. In addition the small file sizes are a benefit, especially for longer shoots. The lack of fine detail and water colour rendering is not what I'm seeing at all. There's a ton of fine detail in the image. At higher ISOs it may be worth doing a comparison with the Blackmagic BRAW codec on the Pocket 4K with noise reduction at various levels in both cameras to see how noise is handled. You can't complain about a lack of grain texture at ISO 200 on a full frame sensor on the Jaguar E-type shots. Clean images are what we EXPECT from a full frame CMOS. Colour science is looking good on that shot but the lens clearly has an issue with the wheels, lots of chromatic aberration! It was however, shot wide open at F1.2. The Voigtlander 50mm F1.2 Asph in Leica M mount is a beast... Look how sharp it resolves!!
  2. Very impressive. Loved shooting RAW stills on my P20 Pro. The aperture of the telephoto has taken a bit of a backward step though hasn't it? And the DXOMark score doesn't seem much different. When does it hit shops in Europe?
  3. I have done a small test, by comparison to the Nikon Z6 it falls short, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I only have the 24-105mm Lumix and Leica 23mm F2 to try AF with though and it will vary depending on the lens. Since I don't plan a £10,000 investment in new lenses for just one camera, I won't be using AF much on the S1 regardless of how well it works anyway. It's the AF performance with adapted Canon lenses that I'm most interested in. We'll see how the Sigma MCE-11 adapter does... Not very well I suppose!
  4. The 4K full frame S1 is on my desk at EOSHD HQ and for the first time it's the final released camera that is shipping to stores, with firmware version 1.0. I couldn't offer any original files from my shoot in Barcelona as the firmware back then was version 0.7. So now's your chance, if you're wondering how good the initial 10bit codec is at just 72Mbit or how well it grades, to download my files and have a look for yourself... Read the full article
  5. I'm going to be back up to full throttle on EOSHD starting today. For those of you who are wondering where I've been and what I've been doing, here's a glance at what I've been working on... Read the full article
  6. This week I should have the V4 of Pro LOG out so hold out for that, it works fantastically.
  7. Ah right. You can only search within a selected thread on a desktop browser, not mobile. I didn't make this forum software, not much I can do about it.
  8. It is on my phone, tap the magnifying glass icon at top bar
  9. Hope you're feeling better Kaylee!! 30's (if that's where you are now) are a real treat, much more productive than 20's.... it's where things finally start to come together. I am sure you will start to see that soon. I didn't even start EOSHD until I was 30!
  10. You can get Pro Color 3.0.... Unless you need help setting up the menus / codecs / video modes /etc, then the shooter's guide comes in handy.
  11. Not sure that the lens is made in Germany and it isn't in the same league as the Leica M 28mm Summilux F1.4. I think it's a Panasonic optic on the Q. There's not much competition in full frame compact cameras, but I have the original Q and RX1R II, and I am tempted by the Zeiss ZX1 as well. They are a wonderful breed. The Q2 will be interesting but not purely based on the fact it has 4K now, although that's very nice, and something the Sony RX1R II doesn't have. The Q definitely feels like a Panasonic. It's not a brass tank, or anything in league with an M. That has it's own pros and cons... It's light, and technologically very current!
  12. Blackmagic RAW has arrived on the Pocket 4K camera, meanwhile Cinema DNG has been remove due to patent claims, and basically being an obsolete format with poor performance and compatibility. I don't really mourn Cinema DNG, but it's a shame they had to remove it for legal reasons. What's very interesting on the hardware side is how Blackmagic are able to deliver such a dramatic firmware update. A lot of consumer cameras have hardware based on ASIC chipsets. The Blackmagic Pocket 4K has a FFPGA (Fast Field Programmable Gate Array) which is a type of chip that can be completely reprogrammed at the hardware level by software commands. This is how Blackmagic are able to deliver such fundamental features as an entire new raw codec, which would have necessitated a hardware change on a normal camera. Blackmagic are providing a BRAW Player as well for MacOS which allows quick preview and playback of clips from the Finder. BRAW clips are a single file unlike Cinema DNG, which is a folder of still DNG frames in sequence. Read the full article
  13. Bought an RP so I can develop a version of my C-LOG profile for it. It's going to straight back to Amazon when I'm done with that.
  14. I am mega excited about that one. I have the Techart Leica M AF adapter and that's superb, and I have the Fuji GFX adapter for EF and the autofocus on that is as good as the native AF with Fuji's own medium format lenses. They have yet to disappoint. Very good company.
  15. It's the Canon lenses keeping the cameras afloat, that's for sure. Looking at the Panasonic S1, the lens situation is a mess. No AF-C on the Sigma adapter for Canon. No phase-detect AF on the sensor. No affordable primes from Panasonic at launch and the 50mm F1.4 is far too large. Looking at the Canon EOS RP, very small and affordable 35mm F1.8 with IS and macro ability. EF adapter that works properly. Cutting edge expensive stuff like the 50 1.2 and 28-70 2.0 for the pros. There's no question the S1 is a better camera for video though, as long as you don't mind waiting for Sigma's L mount lenses or using manual focus. Then again you'll be using MF in 4K on the RP any way!
  16. The autofocus does seem pretty good on the Olympus. Is it as good as the X-T3? No question who wins IBIS between those two though That amusement park is a gem, would like to see you explore it more... and some of the crazies. Sara is a natural... I can't believe this is the first time I've seen a video with her in, as she seems mega famous from her channel and instagram. Nice work guys!
  17. Good old Berlin!! Nice effect in Resolve. Definitely makes for a less digital look.
  18. Finer noise grain! If you turn it down too far you get a more plastic texture which isn't film-like. The Panasonic codec is really good at a fine grain, so I wanted to keep hold of it.
  19. I entirely agree!! Atomos need to be brave and make a 4K recorder in the mould of a battery grip, specific to certain cameras like the Nikon Z6. Instead of an HDMI cable and top heavy hot-shoe mounting, it would screw into the base of the camera, with moulded hand-grip same as the usual battery grip for mirrorless cams. Then the HDMI port could go into a firm side wall on the grip that extends only fractionally upward at the side of the camera, enough to reach the HDMI port and allow the camera to slide in sideways so that the connection is made, then secured through the tripod mount like a normal battery grip. See the Sony A7 III battery grip for design reference but inside instead of a load of empty space and a couple of batteries, it has one battery and a Ninja 4K chipset. It could even power the camera for a bit longer battery life. No worries having to babysit two shit batteries, one in the camera and one on the back of an external monitor.
  20. It depends on more than just the codec specs so it's tricky to answer that especially as I don't yet have an S1 to compare to the EOS R. It depends also on what aspects of the image you are measuring. I'd expect for instance 10bit to have an advantage in dynamic range but ALL-I would give an advantage in motion cadence. Tricky to say what is "overall" the most cinematic.
