Sony A7R3 users - THROW AWAY YOUR CANON LENSES!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ah good to know. So Metabones has to be set to Advanced mode, instead of Green mode. The problem with that is in Advanced mode, doesn't the stills-mode AF go crazy slow? And isn't the performance of autofocus in video mode pretty poor? -
Agreed 100%! Now we just need the displays to catch up. I have an LG OLED and it's wonderful, and there are a few HDR projectors (mostly 1080p) but there's a real lack of HDR computer displays and laptops out there - and to be honest I think I know why. The brightness would cause eyestrain at such close viewing distances.

New EOSHD Pro Color 3.0 and EOSHD Pro LOG comes to Sony cameras
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Just use one of the LUTs. You can still then (if you want) adjust contrast, saturation, etc. to taste, but you don't have to. -
I think it's more that Panasonic is heavily invested in DFD and CDAF technology... They have the best contrast detect AF around. But video needs phase-detect AF to work optimally, preferably Dual Pixel AF. It takes a long time to change directions in such a big area of development as autofocus, and if there's a political dimension to it... It would be that Panasonic don't want to dump years of R&D down the drain, maybe... Like I say, their DFD technology and contrast detect AF is superb in right conditions for stills.

Sony A7R3 users - THROW AWAY YOUR CANON LENSES!

It's very expensive, yes. Sony's GM pricing is a laugh. The Sigma 20mm F1.4 would be my choice for wide. The Sigma 24-35mm F2.0 is a stop faster than the 16-35mm. But if you really need that ultra wide end, 16mm... The Tamron 15-35mm F2.8 for Canon mount is actually a very good lens... But it won't have video AF like the Sigmas and Sony GM. -

New EOSHD Pro Color 3.0 and EOSHD Pro LOG comes to Sony cameras
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yes there is an update for the A7R III being worked on right now. The existing Pro Color does indeed work on it though. -
It's essential to keep the forum organised though. Completely flat structure might work well for lower traffic sites like Personal-View.com but not here.

Sony A7R3 users - THROW AWAY YOUR CANON LENSES!

Better as in it works well, and Canon / Metabones does not work AT ALL in video mode! -
A test of several Sigma lenses on the Sigma MC-11 adapter. For comparison I included some Sony E-mount lenses as well. With the MC-11 adapter, the Sigma Canon EF mount lenses (and their own SA mount lenses) use continuous PDAF (phase detect AF) in video mode, just like Dual Pixel AF on a Canon body. This isn't possible with Canon's own lenses or with the Metabones Smart EF adapter. In the test: Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 ART (super 35) Sigma 24-35mm F2.0 ART (full frame) Sigma 20mm F1.4 ART (full frame) Sigma 24-105mm F4 (full frame) Sigma 30mm F1.4 (super 35, e-mount) Also: Zeiss Batis 25mm and 85mm for comparison. Video mode: 4K XAVC-S at 25p, in Hybrid LOG Gamma. Graded to Rec.709 in post. Read the full article

The autofocus is truly one of the best things about the A7R3. Panasonic GH5S should have really addressed this. Bit of a missed opportunity. Because A7R3 going to gobble a lot of sales based just on the autofocus.

Not really. It just finally gets a SINGLE competitor. And I doubt the Fake Canon will get a stacked CMOS with 240fps 1080p in LOG. RX100 V just needs EOSHD Pro Color for skin tones, or it needs someone who knows what he's doing when it comes to video, or both... Or failing that, S-LOG so you don't blow your face out. LX100 is a very underrated camera, it almost seems to be forgotten. Should have had an update after 1-2 years. Panasonic's big mistake was to not develop that concept further and instead bring out an LX15... meh. May as well buy an RX100 III on eBay for that spec. Or even better a IV.

4K 60P? OLED screen? Radical design departure? If this camera turns out to be real, I'll buy it immediately. Read the full article

If you're showing what you did on the forum, you're literally giving away the Pro Color settings for free. Can you not do that. If you're modifying it for your own use then fine. If you're modifying it and sharing the settings out, I'd prefer you asked me first to see if it was ok?

I don't appreciate this comment. And I agree with @Cinegain Less one-line URL posts to shitty clickbait news articles.... and more camera tests from YOU guys. Make your own content. If you do take time over it, you'll post less... but better quality. Just a thought.

Nope, I emailed you. Did you not get it? What version of EOS Utility? I can't diagnose problems when you give me zero information to go off, you know. 1.0.4 came out ages ago in April 2017. I don't think this is the problem. There have been many successfully uses of C-LOG on 5D Mk IV since then. If Canon blocked picture profile installation I would have known about it months before. A) What version exactly of EOS Utility? B) Maybe the download is corrupt or incomplete. How large are the picture profile PF3 files on your drive? C) What mode is the camera in? Should be in stills mode, not movie mode

A real shame they did not go S16 and Digital Bolex direction instead.

Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Granted they do not look like vintage lenses in the rendering - quite uniform bokeh and very sharp. However my Cooke S4 PL lenses are even sharper, so I guess film people DO need resolution What sort of correction would you do to videos shot with Sigma ART glass? I don't do any. The distortion on the 35mm F1.4 for example is practically non-extistant. Yes I can see why you'd not want to chop and change too much when the GH5 is working well and it's good to focus on something that works. But full frame, good video PDAF even with Sigma EF lenses, 42MP stills, very good ISO 12,800 and two 4K field-of-views per prime lens thanks to S35 mode with instant switch-a-doo button, is quite a lot the GH5 lacks. May want to wait to see what the A7S3 brings though if you need to replace the GH5 outright, with another 10bit beauty. -

The Sigma lenses are all superb. As you point out the only thing I'd change is the size & weight. The FE mount ART range should be fantastic. But will they still be bang for buck? -
I sign of hope, nah. A sign of minor bug fixes more like.

Very quick try of Panasonic G9... It's nice, but...
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
You are aware you used "43rumors" and "logic" in the same sentence there aren't you? Anyway if you want to trust 43rumors's strange belief in model numbers over what Panasonic say, god bless ya. Yeah like we saw a cheap G700 and G800... oh wait, no we didn't. The pattern that doesn't exist?! Hence my point... Low-end market is dead due to smartphones. Which is why the G9 is as high-end as it is, despite coming from a line that used to be half the price and more consumer orientated with G3 and G5 in particular. -
Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It works superbly for stills if you engage AF-C, which uses phase-detect AF. In AF-S it seems to struggle. But single-point AF-C on a back button or half-press is like having AF-S anyway. I found a similar thing with official Sony lenses and even the RX1R II, where AF-C was far superior to AF-S mode. The Metabones adapter doesn't work at all with some Sigma lenses (was out of luck entirely with 35mm F1.4 ART!) but you should keep it for Canon stuff. I am not having much luck with Canon EF lenses on the MC-11. How about you Oliver? Not tested Eye-AF yet but no greyed out options that I've noticed with a fully compatible Sigma lens on the MC-11. I now prefer the A7R III to the GH5 and D850 purely for the amazing AF in video mode with Sigma lenses and Sony E-mount stuff. I have a lot of these lenses and it means I can sell a few Canon lenses when I get rid of my 1D X II. Video AF on the GH5 is very much mediocre and had expected bigger leap with GH5S but not to be! -
