Very quick try of Panasonic G9... It's nice, but...

Market just isn't there for the cheaper stuff any more. Sony did same thing with A6000 -> A6300 -> A6500. Massive price hikes. -
It's very nice. A few initial thoughts in this thread: The 4K quality is superior to X-T20 and no crop like there is on X-T2. Rolling shutter is worse though.

Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The Sony FE lenses tend mostly to have the more quiet AF motors, but some of the high-end GM lenses do make a clicking sound. The Batis 25 and 85 are great... and silent. Very impressed with the Sigma 24-35mm...As well as world's fastest full frame zoom lens, the quality is as per Zeiss Batis 25mm F2 prime... Which is more expensive by the way, and only fits one mount... But with the Sigma, you are getting a 24, 28 and 35mm prime in one lens...that goes on A7R3, 1DX, 1DC, GH5, you name it... and a handy 50mm field of view when you switch to Super 35mm mode to boot. All at F2.0 and pin sharp, with Dual Pixel AF quality autofocus in 4K on the A7R3. Most of the Sigma lenses I've tried so far do all make a noise when focussing though, so you won't want to use the onboard audio with video AF... Same situation as on a 1D X Mark II, just for the record The 18-35mm seemed a lot quieter though, almost silent?! It's just very very positive to finally have Video Autofocus with Canon mount lenses... Albiet just the Sigma ones. The Canon lenses DO NOT autofocus in video mode, and neither do Tamron or the older Sigma non-ART lenses. Throw them on the scrap. When did they introduce this BTW? MC-11 has been out for ages but I haven't seen a word out of the other bloggers and sites about C-AF in video mode + Sigma lenses. Dickheads lol Metabones still works better in stills mode with Canon lenses... but reliability is shit with Sigma ART. So you may end up having to get both adapters. At least the Sigma is competitive priced. Mine was 250 euros brand new. -
The problem is Nikon doesn't have much unique to Nikon that they can bring to the mirrorless market. They will just have to make it slightly better in every way. Ergonomics are probably the area they can do well in. A full frame NX1 body would be ideal. Not some vintage shit. D810 sensor? No thanks. D850 sensor, that's more like it. The D810 sensor isn't cable of 4K. It has to have IBIS to compete with Sony. 10bit 4K video to compete with Panasonic. It's a lot to ask from a first generation product, so my hopes aren't high and I probably won't buy it. It has to have a good lens adapter to Canon and great AF too... and not just great stills AF but in video mode too. Biggest weakness of the D850 is the video / live-view AF. It takes time to build an eco-system with third party companies making Speed Boosters and Smart-EF adapters, such-like. Another reason it's probably going to be better to wait until the 3rd or 4th model. If it does something amazing right off the bat that nobody else gives you though.... THAT would be reason enough to take it for a spin.

Yep. Some great photos in the article I must admit.

It is actually the G80's successor. The zero in the G80 comes from a short-lived and idiotic naming scheme to identify out grey market imports. It's really a G8. But they called it G80/G85 depending on region. The range though, goes all the way back to G1. And G6 was very similar product in relation to GH2. Same sensor, similar video features. What has changed is the price... no longer is it targeted at sub-$1000 consumer market. A very good point. People should dive deep as they can into their stuff and buy camera books, lights, LUTs, learn more and more, rather than splash out every 6 months. I am a guilty one but I have no choice, need to constantly keep on cutting edge of the latest gear to keep the blog fresh. But certain things I have kept hold of for a long time... like the 1D C and Samsung NX1. Really comfortable with them and know them inside out. -
Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Just got the Sigma 24-35mm F2.0, it's an amazing looking image The big surprise is this... With the Sigma MC-11 adapter it tracks AF in video mode like a Sony FE mount lens. The Metabones adapter does not do this. Going to try a few more lenses on the MC-11... The adapter is just superb with Sigma's own stuff on the A7R3 -
Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!

Yeah but Emmanuel, I read the forum every day even when too busy to reply and WAY too often I read stuff like this in various threads from you... "in my usual condescend tone addressed to you (sorry, couldn't resist!), no idea if I must say I really do like this post of yours or not... LOL Something I know though, even when I am in doubt or I disagree with you, you still are one of my fav readings over here" What's this banter got to do with cameras? What's the point of it littering up the threads? -

24-35 is like having a 24-50 F2 constant on the A7R III due to Super 35mm crop mode. -

To be fair, Sony 24-70mm F2.8 GM is a brick as well 24-70 F4 on the other hand... tiny. But is it any good? Anyone used it? -

Cut it out Emanuel The forum is not about you. Sick of reading the argument stuff. -
Panasonic will soon(ish?!) send me a GH5S to play with so I’ll check it out.

Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It doesn’t change the situation with Pro Color because the A7R III doesn’t let you select BT.2020 with a standard gamma curve, only LOG (HLG) mode... So you can’t use it for straight out of camera colour (which is what EOSHD Pro Color is for). You need to add a LUT. In the article I say BT.2020 is developed jointly by BBC and NHK. It’s not a Sony standard but a HDR broadcast standard. Canon use it as well. S-Gammut is the Sony equivilent wide colour space. And that needs tweaking to work well and / or expert grading. -
So I can update EOSHD Pro Color for Sony's latest colour science tweaks yours truly bought the new A7R III from Berlin's one and only Sony Store this week. Yes, 3500 euros seems to be Sony's new standard price and yes I am finally broke... but the improvements over the old model turn out to be quite special - especially the new Hybrid LOG Gamma picture profiles. Was thinking of doing a review of the G9. The G85 was a good bargain. This time, price has shot up. I like the ergonomics of the body better than the GH5 - The top-LCD and layout changes make for a more comfortable camera There is no lag when finishing a clip. You hit record and it stops immediately The EVF is massive... However, has anybody else noticed the DRAMATIC pincushion distortion in the viewfinder... It's really not nice. Very distracting. AF seemed better than the GH5. It was as quick to do a one-time AF-S in movie mode as in stills mode. GH5 is slower to do that. The AF during 4K was not up to Sony or Canon's best, but it was again seemingly better than the GH5 in the brief time I tried it out. Does not come close to A7R III for video AF overall though. Pic profiles... The lack of Hybrid LOG Gamma is a shame. Sony did not feel the need to pull SLOG or HLG from their flagship stills camera (A7R III)... Panasonic apparently did. But then again, Sony did not include them in the A9 so they are not entirely sane either. All in all, G9 or GH5? I'd say GH5. Now they are practically the same price, but one is 10bit with HDR and one is 8bit SDR, it's a bit too silly to lose that for the sake of slightly better body handling and AF. And the BIG viewfinder with that much distortion gives me pause for thought as well. I am all for big viewfinders, but do you really want so much pincushion in EVERY shot?

Yes couldn't really comment on the rumours after signing an NDA - but most of all didn't want to drive traffic to the scumbags at 43rumors The leaks this time were ridiculous. Needs to stop! What is the point of having a nice surprise and big in-depth article when you already know everything from some shitty clickbait place that dribbles stuff out over months?

Just last month I went to visit Panasonic UK for a hands-on with the new Panasonic GH5S. My full review is in the pipeline but first an introduction to the new camera on the block... The GH5S has a newly developed 10.2MP sensor for enhanced low light performance, as well as 240fps 1080p S&Q. Furthermore for the first time since the GH2 this sensor is an over-sized 1.86x crop multi-aspect sensor. Possible for the first time is 60p at Cinema 4K resolution (4096 x 2160), whereas the GH5 is just Ultra HD 60p. The field-of-view will be slightly wider in Cinema 4K on the GH5S compared to the GH5 due to the larger sensor. The new CMOS also brings colour improvements with a new 14bit readout and less noise. Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
JIm, you get it. And that others on this thread are comparing Logan Paul to Shakespeare, just proves your point -
There's always going to be an enormous amount of junk out there and there's no point censoring it. I think some people think this is what I was getting at in the article... nope. Leave the junk out there. But take some responsibility for it. Give kids some other way of venting, letting off stream and entertaining themselves. Stop promoting it on trending lists and YouTube home page. Stop cross-linking to it from other videos. Have some editorial direction as YouTube. Don't promote it, don't give it a platform for it to thrive on... and above all, hope the next generation are smart enough to not watch it. This one's fucked. Too late for them. This is their culture now, they own it and are doomed to repeat it... the culture of vanity, insensitivity, selfishness and above all MONEY and LOOKS.

The casual acceptance that there's so much shit out there is part of the problem, part of the western mentality that I find so submissive. I think people are resigned to live out their lives surrounded by junk videos, junk food, junk advertising and bring their kids up on all the same junk too. The 4 big quality online camera blogs remaining in the UK are... Me! Red Shark News http://www.redsharknews.com James Miller and Philip Bloom's content I can't even remember the 4th big one but they're out there Plus there are of course good guys putting helpful stuff out there like like Harv's stuff on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8YXmNHJ-JS0dd7z4Z9ChXA And Daniel Peters https://twitter.com/danielpetersdop But when I was recently invited to Panasonic, they said there was a shortage of people to invite. Dan Chung has sold up at newsshooter now as well...and gone to work for Atomos. The internet it just so full of tat, it's unreal.
