I seem to remember when the honesty doesn't work in their favour they just leave the glaring flaws out of reviews entirely And they have so many relationships with so many PR and marketing people at the manufacturers, you can never be honest while you're constantly looking over your back at a bunch of friends imploring you to be as nice publicly to them as you are face to face at trade shows. I know how this works, I have felt the same thing myself. It's not a pressure or a strict form of censorship - it's more about just common politeness and a good career move. But it makes for a bloody boring website, believe me. And they get very highly rewarded financially too, so they're hardly a charity. What do they want? Reader donations on top of their latest $40,000 commercial video work? $2000, a 6K H.265 mode, anamorphic support and much better low light performance than the GH4. Yet they didn't mention any of that. Far worse though is they chose to make a small flaw HEADLINE news - a ridiculous click bate headline out of a tiny flaw in compression... then to imply the 10bit implementation was faulty and V-LOG completely useable for serious work, which we all know is bullshit, was the final straw for me. BULLLLLLLLsheeet. Panasonic loaned them the GH5! I have some suggestions!

I hope this review doesn't cause a shit storm. I dare not even look at the comments ANUSUser amongst the ANUS fans on there. And I am definitely not going to type it into Google. He used a variation of the 5K1NT (SKINT) designed for the moon landings. According to the latest NoFilmSchool article, Kubrick alleged burnt his ANUS on a candle while shooting Barry Lyndon, and couldn't sit on his director's chair for 2 weeks. That's why some of the scenes are too dark, he had to stop using the Fuji lens and instead a smaller handheld Nikon 1 series zoom with an aperture of F22 to F32.

Some things to know about this - Panasonic understandably were not happy with the flawed test. C5D - "We have decided to temporarily remove this content while awaiting further feedback from the manufacturer." Rediculously Seb is still blaming the removal of the test on "agitation from the community" rather than plainly putting his hands up and saying "we got it wrong", which I for one would have welcomed. Hey Fritz Thanks!! Really looking forward to the GH5, my pre order should arrive on the 21st in the UK And yeah the temptation is always to make money from plonking 5 sponsors logos on the front of my reviews and videos plus a page full of advertising and tracking cookies... But I have never done that and don't get enough recognition for it. Just trying to keep the blog's content unmolested its a shame more rivals don't do this because I am on verge of turning off from the whole thing... internet in general! You're absolutely right i would have to water down all the jokes and jibes or remove them entirely if I were to please Sony, Panasonic, etc and the PR people all the time... What's the point?

Of course man! I am all for finding common ground. It's just that I'd like to keep the normal pre-conditions to actually liking the person first before seeing if we have common ground. I have met Nino in person In our very first meeting in Berlin he preferred to answer a business call and disappear mid sentence than be attentive to the person sat in front of him who he was having the beer with.

Thanks for all the posts asking me not to quit EOSHD. It's been a long time running this blog by myself - 7 years now! I am completely disillusioned with the industry, the direction it is headed in, the lack of creativity, the focus on pros, the lack of quality online rivals, the bitterness that exists in the blogging community and the amount of clickbate out there. It's going to take a miracle for me to get my passion back.

That article wasn't a review. It was more of a news announcement and an opinion piece. As far as EVFs go it's best in class. That is a fact! Nothing controversial about that. Zacuto never gave me a loan unit. Count the number of Zacuto articles on EOSHD - what is it - something like 1 or 2 in 5 years. Hardly shill like behaviour. And for internal recording I'd much prefer to use the Zacuto Eye on a small camera than a whopping big field monitor. The SDI input isn't a problem. You can get tiny HDMI to SDI converters for $70. But I'm willing to let it go as you were a great mod over at the Cinema 5D forums... You put a lot of passion into that place. Surely, were you not just a bit pissed off at Seb and Nino when they decided to offload the entire forum to Planet5D on the condition the idiot over there would monetise it? That community sold into the gutter for a penny. And I would never sell my members to anyone - they are not mine to sell. Like I say, you can use the Zacuto Eye on DSLRs with a $70 HDMI -> SDI I don't know why Seb thought he could trade people's forum activity for money... That's the crux of that little matter. Yes I do have a chip on my shoulder but in this instance mainly because they slated the GH5 without understanding the technical reasons behind the macro blocking in 10bit. Yet they are in direct contact with Panasonic about this and leading them down the garden path to announcements, firmware updates and god knows what else. Quality feedback is extremely important. I advised Panasonic not to put a statement out about it because it would only draw attention to a negative from a flawed test, which basically claimed the GH5 was unusable for professional work, when the truth is the opposite and it is actually an incredible piece of engineering with a few normal compression artefacts in VLOG if you grade it wrong. Facts bro. If you need the broader picture about my supposed 'chip on shoulder' then you need to consider the full history of what Cinema5D has done for the DSLR video community. Here's a brief outline - 1. Nino and the other Seb plucked out of obscurity by Philip Bloom to intern on the infamous Red Tails shoot. Nino and Phil have remained friends 2. The point being he did not get noticed out of the quality of his work, rather by association with who he knew. 3. Cinema5D started with Jared Abrams in L.A. covering DSLR video, hence "5D" in the domain name 4. Nino instigated the shift to professional cameras and a professional standpoint on everything, completely jettisoning the fun aspect and alienating enthusiasts, as well as damaging the democratic aspect of the whole community at that time. Meanwhile Jared was dumped out in the cold. 5. Nino gives seminars and talks for money at trade shows every year and has been at almost every one I've ever been to in some kind of manufacturer or dealer sponsored capacity... BVE, Photokina, etc. Nothing wrong with making a living of course but to then turn around and claim you're giving unbiased advice on Cinema5D is a bit rich in my view. You can't do both. 6. The forum was offloaded to Mitch at Planet5D, the most clickbate resource in the whole community, he of course made a huge fuck up and it haemorrhaged users. Seb I believe did this because he couldn't be bothered to maintain it despite the fact he had a team of mods to help him, and he wanted to off load it for cash. Disgusting. 7. The general content there is just so bland. Yet because of all their manufacturer associations it floats the public's attention like sponsored content. 8. Even during the years when we were on good terms, in the past Cinema5D rarely if ever mentioned my articles in their coverage... mean spirited. 9. Rather they saw me as a bitter rival to be crushed. 10. Way before my first ever article criticising their actions, they have been extremely rude to me behind closed doors... dismissive and argumentative.

Don't URSA Mini 4.6K EF owners get a hefty discount on the new camera, bringing it down to something like $3500 so I heard and you get to keep your existing camera.... bargain. 4.6K sensor looks nice, it's a custom design and not off the shelf scientific. And the old Mini 4.6K is still nice.... Pro is just the same camera with NDs and more buttons!

Nothing was hacked. I went through the list of spambots registered since 6th March when the wave started (around 40-50 accounts were registered) and banned them all. They can't post any more content but if you receive any PMs from spambots which I obviously cannot see on my side, let me know so I can ban them as a few may still be lingering. Forum software is already up to date. The domain name for notifications - what are you seeing exactly? It should be andrew@eoshd.com The Q&A is already there for new user registrations. Also Recaptcha is enabled. The bots don't get through very often... we've only had 4 or 5 spam attacks in the last 3 years and all completely resolved after 1-2 days. Thank you to Andy Lee and Jon for clearing up this one. This used to be enabled all the time but was relaxed to lessen the burden on mods and myself for approving new content and speeding up access to forum for eager new users. This had been disabled for almost a year without any trouble As we are now going through a wave of spam attacks it has been enabled again. I ALWAYS find the spam attacks coincide with me criticising another site. Someone is definitely putting me out there as a target. I just don't know who. No problem on the forum software side and it is advanced enough with spam prevention features. You won't be seeing any more this month, or the next.

Rolling shutter was pretty good on the X-T2 compared to just about everything else in the same class. Certainly much better than the Sony A6500 and Samsung NX1. If they have no crop for 4K that is pretty interesting in itself, as on one hand I prefer no crop, but on the other-hand more lines to read = slower sensor readout, more rolling shutter. Personally Fuji should just give us a choice in the menus. Crop for reduce RS mode and no crop for normal shooting. Hate having my hands tied!

Some are more impartial than others, put it that way. When you have personal relations with a nice man or nice woman from a marketing company or a camera company, you're not going to risk burning that bridge for the sake of a fully honest review which focuses on a number of negatives. You're just not. Yes I myself have felt the pressure as well. I resisted and continue to do so. If I cared about my relationship with people in the camera sales industry above the one I have with my own readers and followers, do you think I'd be blasting CInema5D on Twitter? I certainly wouldn't. For me though the blog is more important and shouldn't be 'sold' to the PR world. It has indeed. Well the latter part is fine by me. We can have different opinions based on experience and figure out which opinion suits our own experiences and how we intend to use the cameras we buy. It doesn't. Regardless, whether you call somebody out or not is a personal freedom. Especially when it comes to your own blog and some flawed test that claims the rather wonderful GH5 is unusable. The hype machine is very persuasive... These types of articles get the most attention. The truth is there is no silver bullet, you cannot buy your way to filmmaking greatness with camera purchases. But it helps to put your $1000, $2000 or $3000 on the right horse!!

Yes pity he can't time travel a month into the future to answer flawed test outcomes, which blame 10bit for compression artefacts. Must work harder Panasonic And give us 960fps 8K in a firmware update whilst you're at it. By the way my GH5 is pre-ordered and should arrive on the 20th March in the UK. So expect some decent coverage finally

This is my whole point about the Cinema5D post They are complaining it's a bit-depth issue with 10bit when it's actually an encoder issue / compression related. And 10bit looks pretty damned good in the standard colour modes to my eye, yet they claim overall it gives zero benefit. Go figure.

Maybe the sensor production issues were a problem, or they can't get enough sensors to do a big run of thousands of low priced cameras. I have a feeling though that there just wasn't enough margin and profit in the Pocket and BMCC, and the market was too fiercely competitive (vs GH5, Sony, etc.) so they are focussing all their efforts on the $6000 beast instead.

Well you can shoot a feature with a GH4 as well! However, put BMPCC in the headline and it gets more clicks. NoFilmSchool are known for this... Their main innovation is putting "Kubrick" in a headline for clicks and ad revenue. The BMPCC was a perfect building block for the later evolutions that never came... All they needed to do was keep the product concept and pricing, upgrade the sensor to Super 35mm and sort out the terrible battery.

Of course the Pocket and Cinema 2K cameras were heavily flawed in a number of ways but the product philosophy, pricing and positioning on the market was incredible. For the first time we could have an alternative to DSLRs Back then mirrorless cameras were not so much a big force for video aside from the GH2. No Sony A7, no 4K. Blackmagic came in and wowed everyone at that first NAB. They had huge publicity, huge coverage... I cannot see Engadget or The Verge covering the URSA Mini Pro with quite the same passion they hyped the consumer-priced cameras The Pocket was always in regular stock in indie photographic stores in Berlin, London and Manchester (and elsewhere of course) and I assume it sold very well because of the unique appeal and pricing. A lot of people complained about the flaws, the Blackmagic forum was in danger at one point of being flamed to death. Maybe they got scared and decided it would hurt the brand Or maybe they just see heaps more profit in the high end and would prefer to stay a professional company... Or maybe they were a professional company all along and the Pocket was really for video pros... just as accessible and as cheap as possible to get as much publicity and as much support as possible so that when the 'real' pro cameras came out later, Blackmagic had some momentum to build on. Looks like we were gamed... A bit like Canon with the 5D II / Cinema EOS

They don't need to.

Maybe they will have it in stock by NAB, in a crazy plot-line reversal of recent years.

Forever I have been patiently waiting for Blackmagic to give us a sequel to the great story of 2013, where a man called Grant pioneered affordable RAW video for enthusiasts, DSLR shooters and consumers.
