For stills. But this is a video forum. The video AF is about as reliable as a Fiat Punto. And with EF lenses it doesn't work at all (only for stills). The insane buffer is nice.... for stills. As long as you don't mind it overheating 20 minutes into an important shoot (This actually happened to me) I am trying to find out if IBIS on the A6500 is significantly better than the A7S II, so far I feel it is a bit better but nothing dramatic.

@MC Wedding Films Which Sony camera?
-
That goes without saying for everything, always test new stuff before a shoot. There are some bugs in Sony's colour handling. The different behaviour of colour depth from A7S II to A6300 shouldn't be happening. I have made a second profile with a wider sweet spot, it delivers closer results across the different cameras, and you will all be getting it for free if you bought the original. I am also working on something else completely new and an A6500 review. I am now mega happy with Sony's colour after all this work. I might sell my 1D X Mark II.
-
I also notice that you can control the colour depth on the A7S II with S-Gamut selected, but on the A6300 you can't. I'll be doing an updated EOSHD Pro Color soon and a few other tweaks. No need to email me yourself - I'll be emailing all EOSHD Pro Color customers once it's ready. Ah yes but if you want to apply a LUT it's better not to shoot with a profile designed for baked in straight out of camera colour. SLOG2 is for LUTs.

It would actually be $1999 + $600 for Speed Booster EF and keep your Canon glass... not such a bad deal. And you're getting a MUCH better image and camera than the EOS M5 at $1000. Yes it is still more than twice as expensive but about 5x better. Alternatively the Panasonic G85 is priced similarly to the EOS M5 but is much better kitted out for video. It also has a fantastic image in 4K.

What camera do you want to see a review of next?

The Olympus might not be available before Christmas from what I am hearing. A6500 at least is out now. I have the G85. That review is coming soon! -
You can judge by samples on the web but it depends on how they're shot, the lenses used and the variety of subjects. Again the last video is almost all close-ups, with a shallow DOF and quite a long lens. The grade is ok, light and colours decent. EOS M5's video quality like 80D is a real mixture of times when it looks like acceptable 1080p and times then it just looks terrible and digital. Again... depends on the subject. A mirrorless enthusiast camera costing over $1000 in 2016 should not still have moire & aliased 1080p, with no 4K option.

Here would be my simplified Sony line - A9X - 20MP pro level DSLR form factor but mirrorless e-mount and EVF, replaces A99 II. Costs $3500. Scrap the A99 and A-Mount lenses entirely. Existing A-mount lenses can be used on adapter with new cameras. A9S - 12MP DSLR form factor but mirrorless e-mount and EVF. Video optimised, full frame, minimal rolling shutter, electronic ND, 10bit codec, costs $3500. A9R - Resolution king (60MP+) and same form factor as above A7 series goes from 3 cameras to 1 42MP camera for all, maintains small mirrorless body design for consumers. Completely overhaul the menus and ergonomics of ALL cameras including RX100 series. A6500 / RX100 / RX10 / RX1 continues, but with Panasonic LX100 like menus and ergonomics. Bring the prices of the lenses DOWN. Bring in ONE new entry level camera to replace A6000.

What camera do you want to see a review of next?

No, after the FS5 I am done with the bigger cameras, they are too fussy and a bit overkill. -
Thanks for your test bigfoot. PP 2 - EOSHD ProColor (Cinema) - at 0:46 looks fine. However the 3 way colour correction on top washes out the oranges and gives it a pale yellow cast. Was that intentional or is it my screen?
-
In a way though, it is like having an A7R II Super 35 image for half the price. So it depends on how you look at it. It's also smaller and has better stabilisation than the A7R II. With Speed Booster the image can even compete with the A7S II 4K, but more rolling shutter. It doesn't have a soul, but it produces great images.
-
Be careful judging the camera from these sample videos. You can't just an image from so many close-up shots. The food video looks better because of the close-ups. As soon as you go to infinity with wider lens, the EOS M5 and 80D resolution falls apart with a heap of moire and digitally sharpened softness. Looks good on the end of a telephoto or a macro lens though.

Panasonic GH5 is coming soon but until then... What should get my attention?
-
Are you pouring red wine on yours? Except 90% of the weight of the camera bag will be the EF lenses. Replacing 80D with a M5 body hardly makes any difference, especially as the 80D is not a particularly heavy camera to start with. It's not a 1D X! It's not so much the lack of 4K, it's the moire that's the problem and how electronic the image looks. Bang goes the renderless timeline and you have to re-render quite a bit when changing effects, trimming clip, re-timing, etc. Olympus E-M1 II performance 5 axis IBIS is where it's at for handheld stabilisation. That's true, good point. It is going in the right direction, I'll give you that. Now if they can move the memory card slot from the battery compartment to the side, that would be another good step towards a more serious mirrorless camera.
-
That's a very good summary and all true. The A6500 is almost simultaneously the best and worse camera of its kind. After the A6300 obsolescence came so rapidly I am very reluctant to spend 1700 euros on the A6500. The pricing is over the top and the only new feature I value is the 5 axis IBIS, as the touch screen and AF still work so unreliably compared to Canon. On the other hand, not much else can touch the overall features and specs for the price, not even the X-T2 as it lacks internal LOG recording, full 6K Super 35mm sensor readout and 5 axis IBIS.
-
I kept tempting myself with the thought of an EOS M5, like an 80D in mirrorless form, Dual Pixel AF, maybe one day RAW with Magic Lantern, but as it stands right now it's nothing more than a PowerShot camera, for stills only.
-
I enjoyed this one - Bought the Saramonic due to Daniel's video in fact. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 looks good too and could be nice with anamorphic. Still not sure the A6500 is for me though... prefer A7S II. Shall I review it?

Cinema EOS cameras don't need C-LOG as they already have Canon LOG. The LUTs in the C-LOG pack do work with Canon LOG on the Cinema EOS cameras as well. I tested them fully with official Canon LOG on my 1D C.

EOSHD Pro Color is a highly optimised in-camera profile for your Sony camera, to deliver straight-out-of-camera Canon-like colour. Dump the default settings and fix a host of colour issues. These colour correction settings are easy to apply and fundamentally change the image processor’s approach to color and white balance, lending an artists’s eye to the camera and the way it handles ambience and colour separation. Advantages include: Truer, deeper reds Greater separation of green hues for more natural looking foliage and landscapes Greater separation of blue hues for better skies and better cool tones under warm lights Skintones, faces and people given a more flattering treatment Smoother and more film-like roll off to highlights and shadows Reduced colour clipping (for example prevents a blue object turning turquoise or green in bright light) A more realistic and cinematic image, without the crayola-8bit feel of Sony’s default settings Confidence on a shoot you have expertly set colour with no unpleasant surprises This thread is moderated daily. Some rules apply. This is place to: Post your shots Give your feedback based on what camera you're using Share thoughts with other users Be nice to one-another Not a place to: Troll EOSHD Reveal the details of the EOSHD Pro Color profiles Promote your own rival settings or other competitors Fair warning, posts falling into the second category will be deleted and repeat offenders will be banned.

Amazingly fast sensor. Bodes well for 120fps 4K on the GH5 if the processor can handle it.

I am slowly getting round to finishing my mammoth XC10 review.... expect it this week!
-
They are too bright at close viewing distances to make for a comfortable computer monitor, and if you turn the brightness all the way down, contrast goes to hell. Also, TVs have a habit of electronic meddling on a per pixel basis, some might even have processing you can't turn off.
-
I am going to watch the Herzog masterclass. Finally someone worth learning from.

To prevent the loss from debayering you really need a sensor... with no debayering. A Foveon design sensor.
