OK now you are taking out of your arse hole and not even a human arse hole but a rats one. Why would anyone want to do desktop work on a Present day A9 = Core 2 Due from 2007 when they can get a laptop that is double that speed for half the price of the iPad Pro with A9X. Unless I am missing a huge problem that we have with laptops, the tablet however fast it is is not going to step in and solve it. Not until Premiere and FCPX are completely redesigned for a touch UI... When it comes to productivity apps that need a keyboard, which is most of them, a tablet is nothing more than a slow laptop with touch user interface and no keyboard until you add it separately. I have the new 12" Macbook which essentially has a mobile chip in it and is as thin as a tablet... it runs Premiere but not once have I thought "hey this is great for video editing and would be even better if it were a tablet!!" For email and internet I'd much rather use the Macbook 12" than an iPad... for very simple reason. I can type much faster on a physical keyboard and I prefer OSX to using a tablet.

iOS is OSX based. They are very similar with same development tools. Why would you want to run desktop apps on a touch screen device that are designed to be used with a mouse and keyboard? Just get a laptop!! Surface Pro, apart from being very expensive, does it do the desktop apps better than a desktop or the tablet apps better than an iPad Pro? No to both. So what is the point?? There is a reason to have a separate device for your power hungry desktop apps and a separate device for your tablet apps & games. Tablets are not that useful for creative work anyway. Most people use them for internet, email and games. They have not taken off for Photoshop and video editing at all. And Surface Pro does?

And you think the camera is the problem? There are two approaches you can use If you don't plan to grade the image and just want great colour out of the box stick it on 0-255, normal picture profile, avoid raising the black levels or using gamma DR. Don't forget to remap 0-255 to 16-235 in post to get rid of the harsh clip to highlights and crushed black details. Or you can raise the black levels and use gamma DR then grade it, do all sorts... To say quality decreases is not correct. You can apply a range of very artistic looks to the flatter output.

They played catch up big time with that one my friend. Apple have had a common OS over their mobile, tablet and desktop devices for years. So fail to see how that is a Microsoft advantage or even unique to Microsoft. Yeah because nobody with a high-end smartphone cannot do that already with their laptop!?!? Essentially the same OS as in 2007? You really do not have a clue about Apple devices and probably don't use them. Again you are making the same mistake that the salesmen running Canon are making... Saying things like sales are more important than the product. Sales of Nokias were great before smartphones!

Nice little comparison that! The adapters I got for the NX1 were both rubbish (Appologies if anyone was mislead by inspecting the pics of my NX1 in the guide) I can't recommend the Fotodiox Nikon adapter or the Kiwi EF adapter. I may just have had duds, but the Fotodiox doesn't trigger the 'lens connected' pin on the mount, so I had to gum it down and the Kiwi didn't give me infinity. Could be the early models or duds... maybe they fixed it... you'd think so as these are pretty glaring flaws. I have had a chance to get some other adapters sorted out for the NX1 and I can recommend: Ciecio7's FD adapter Ciecio7's PL adapter Anything by Novoflex

Haha. Is Arri LOG on the Alexa dynamic range hype in your book as well then? Same principal.

Panasonic G7 and 14-42 Lens - £339 after cashback - Buy @ £539.00
Andrew Reid replied to red's topic in Cameras
The G7 body seems eligible for cash back at WEX now, £267 after £200 cash back!! http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-panasonic-lumix-dmc-g7-digital-camera-body/p1573036 How bad must sales be for them to be offering this kind of discount across their entire range?? -
Yeah think it is a long interview, only seems to be broken up into smaller chunks on YouTube so will check out Netflix! I think whenever the Japanese photographic giants do try to innovate the product doesn't sell because they don't back it up with the right software or marketing. Apple were quite good at those!! Sony are a bit like Samsung... spec spec spec. Ironic thing is the NX1's 'soul' and handling is much nicer than the A7R II!!

Just shoot Ultra HD, there's no real resolution gain using the DCI mode on the NX1. You may as well crop and stretch the Ultra HD to DCI in post if you want the 1.9:1 aspect ratio.

Leica SL hands-on first impressions review from a video perspective
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
So in other words the 8bit LOG is broken, kaput. It shouldn't be. No need for it to be. Canon LOG is 8bit on their cameras. Works fine. GH4 V-LOG is 8bit internally. Works fine. -
Brainstorm a future $3,000 Samsung cinema camera!

Partner with Blackmagic for the processor. ProRes a-go-go. Partner with Magic Lantern for the firmware updates. They didn't seem to have a problem giving us one for raw video did they?! +1 for full size HDMI. I think just with those 3 relatively simple changes it would sell to pros for $3000. -
Does an external recorder bypass the camera colour science?
Andrew Reid replied to DevonChris's topic in Cameras
I have always wondered what is responsible for the degradation of noise grain texture (it's so blotchy over uncompressed HDMI) compared to the raw sensor data, it can't be compression. -
Indeed it did https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/readme/260ef9743c584b5ea4af28af63945cfa

It's more about the codec actually. H.265 effectively doubles your bitrate due to 2x greater efficiancy. 70 = 140Mbit/s The NX1's codec is able to hold onto more detail, where H.264 on the a7R II goes a bit muddy due to compression. The RX10 II's codec is muddier still, probably due to a cheaper processor. So in short... definitely more 'real' detail on the NX1 compared to the A7R II and A7S II.

Depends on the subject but say if you've got a big blue sky in the shot, all modes have banding. It is just that in S-LOG3 you have a LOT more than in S-LOG 2. The 'normal' picture profiles have a BIT less than S-LOG 2 but it isn't really worth sacrificing your dynamic range for. AF is still terrible with Canon lenses on the A7S II w/ adapters A7R II is much better (at least in good light). You will want to keep your 5D purely for AF, it is that bad on the A7S II. The Sony lenses are better but still not to the standard set by the A7R II or other mirrorless cameras, i.e. GH4, E-M1, NX1. Don't know! You're welcome!

Don't know about the Ninja but it does do a clean 1080p HDMI output. Here it is on my Odyssey 7Q+ The clean 4K works as well. This is NX1 firmware v1.4 First you need a card in the slot. For some strange reason. Then you need to set HDMI to 1080p in the menu. Then you need to press the disp. key to get rid of the icons.

Leica SL hands-on first impressions review from a video perspective
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Here's Dan over at Newsshooter, confirming what I saw with the LOG profile. http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/11/15/the-curious-case-of-the-leica-sl-going-hands-on-with-the-camera-confirms-issues-with-log-gamma/ We both saw the problem in less than 20 mins with the camera in a store. Question is how did Leica miss the problem in over 24 months of engineering? -
As a monitor, either. As a recorder you need clean HDMI otherwise camera icons will be dotted along the side of your images.
-
I have a great idea. Why don't we used the English definition of the word indistinguishable. It will really help readers out. OK we get it. You prefer the A7R II. Moving on! Next question!
-
Indistinguishable is a term I wouldn't use personally speaking. Download the original file. The aliasing is a concern for me. They are the same price so if you want FF 4K why cripple yourself? Forgetting the fantastic 42MP stills for a moment, bearing in mind both for video are roughly the same price, A7S II even a bit cheaper and with the bonus of 1080p 120fps), you'd have to really want that reduced rolling shutter (which you can fix trivially in post anyway) to put up with the aliasing.
-
I think I have a different point of view. The A7R II is really a Super 35mm camera. The A7S II is really full frame. The 4K in full frame on the A7R II is very poor in low light, can't even do ISO 3200 nicely and the moire & aliasing will always bite you when you least expect it. So Super 35mm vs full frame, very different look. Speed Booster Ultra is a good solution for the A7R II but I still think it looks pretty different. Looking deeply into it at the moment with some real world shooting.
-
No I repeat... that is via the 4K SDI input only. It does not accept a 4K signal via HDMI. I've tried on multiple cameras including GH4 and A7S II.
-
Yeah it's a personal thing. Personally I never use peaking or zebras. Hell, I rarely even look at the histogram. Just give me a good monitor that is sharp as hell and accurate.
