Blade is only a 720p screen and it doesn't do 1080/60p recording either. Also it only takes SSDs. Doesn't record to your existing camera SDXC cards. So factor a few of them into the price.

Very nice! These will be collectors items one day for sure
-
Bonus! It has a very nice playback mode with touch screen scrub controls. Yep D5500 same as D5300 for HDMI. A shame they have not fixed this yet. The PIX looks nice but it is $1200!! What if you don't need the 4K recording but still want 1080p ProRes and a great screen to monitor off? Video Assist it is.
-
Actually the NX1 nicely downscales the 4K internally to 1080p for the HDMI output. I've tried recording that with the Video Assist and it is pretty decent quality. Better than the internal 1080p! So get the Video Assist if you need better quality 1080p from your NX1 and can't be bothered with 4K or H.265. Also the 1D C's 4K downscaled in-camera to feed the clean HDMI output is rather lovely. 1.3x crop of sensor like the 4K, but without the massive file sizes or MJPEG to contend with Video Assist good for capturing that. It is VERY sharp and clean with very little weirdness going on. Gradients are very smooth too. Looks like 10bit luma. I also have a Nikon D5500 at the moment but not sure about that, it may have to go back because the HDMI seems stuck at 29.97p or needs pulldown from interlaced signal. Can't get native 24p or 25p out of it. Review of the D5500 is in the works by the way, aside from that issue it is rather nice for a cheap 1080p camera. Very small and light for a DSLR.

No, that's only via SDI not HDMI. It's $495. There's your excuse. Or were you expecting the Odyssey 7Q+!

Out of the blue Blackmagic sent me the new Video Assist, which isn't quite yet shipping at B&H (pre-orders are available) or CVP but will be soon. Here is an early look at the device and what it can do. Read the full article

Sony A7S II Review Part 1 - Major Sunspot Defect
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Today had an email from Ben Pilling at Sony saying the sunspot issue is being analysed for a firmware fix. Good news! http://www.eoshd.com/2015/11/sony-confirm-a7s-ii-25p-sunspot-bug-firmware-update-to-come/ Very quick reaction from Sony and thanks to everyone else who have tested for it. -
You can assign magnify to the centre button using custom keys in the main menu. They do indeed have work to do on ergonomics though. Samsung got it surprisingly right with the NX1, a few quirks aside.

I have weird issues with audio in Resolve 12 as well, on the A7S II material audio stutters and crackles like a post apocalyptic radio.

Sony A7S II Review Part 1 - Major Sunspot Defect
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Dude! Read the thread or even the top half of the article. It's a genuine problem in 25p. The 24p / NTSC is unaffected. To be clear because it seems this needs repeating!...There's other people experiencing with the problem, more user reports all over the place and on other forums if you can be bothered to look. It's not just my unit. The good news is, when I reported it to Sony they took it very seriously and the engineers in Tokyo are now investigating. I'd expect a firmware fix for sure. -
A story about 4K XAVC-S, Premiere and transcoding
Andrew Reid replied to Don Kotlos's topic in Cameras
Thanks Don nice post. Meanwhile on a Mac I recommend to simply use EditReady, transcode to ProRes 422 LT and you will be able to playback full quality full res 4K on a laptop. There's no quality loss from XAVC-S. The only way you can lose quality from XAVC-S is to go backwards significantly from H.264 100Mbit/s and that is quite hard to do -
Requirements - has to be cheaper. Gimbal must be separate to camera. Should support small camera like RX100 IV or Sony QX1 smart camera with 16mm pancake. Show us what you got!

Is 4K raw on the X5 a 2.3x crop like the GH4's sensor?
-
My belief is the raw module works with OSMO. The OSMO is just a controller stick. All the image processing and storage to memory is on the camera gimbal. All the OSMO does is connect to the base of that. In fact you can see where it connects to the base of the X5R in the pic above. My enthusiasm for the OSMO got slightly curbed upon seeing the sample footage on YouTube this evening, couldn't they have got some decent filmmakers to shoot something less tacky? The X3 small chip look doesn't look nice. Any close up on a person and they are softer than the background. No AF system. Wasn't needed in the air, now it is. It may be a wide lens and a tiny chip but you still notice that it is fixed on infinity. It is a weird look for close-ups. People are definably just slightly out of focus. The colour and dynamic range doesn't look nice either. Unless one lands on my lap to review I think I will pass on it until the X5R drops in price. This thing really does benefit from the larger sensor and interchangeable lenses. The sample footage of the OSMO with the X5 is WAY better.

A bit of bounce vs no shot at all. I know what I'd rather take. Here we go again You're right of course. But they're empty words without your own ideas of how you're going to do that... let's share the knowledge...
-
What about in 10bit? That should solve your complaint with solid colour and gradients.

Imagine if after all this time with shallow depth of field and static tripod we just wanted to get stuff in focus and move the camera... Read the full article

Or maybe they haven't a clue!

How was it graded and what pic profile was used though?

By the way, check out this review... extremely detailed http://www.lauschsicht.com/canon-eos-c300-mark-ii-review/

Let's look at the good old 5D product cycle to predict when it will arrive... August 2005 - 5D announced September 2008 - 5D Mark II announced (holy shit that was a good camera for 2008) March 2012 - 5D Mark III announced (boring for 2012!) So 3 years the gap usually It is overdue 3 years was March 2015! I think November would be a good time for it to hit before Christmas 2015. Otherwise it could be any time in 2016, preferably before NAB if Canon wants to get back into the DSLR video market at all.

Just installed V-LOG L. Will give it a spin! Looks a lot noisier on the screen than S-LOG 2 on the A7S II even at ISO 400. What ISO do you guys recommend for it?
