  1. It won't be the usual full review I'm afraid. Limited resources means I returned the camera, can't justify keeping it. I found it boring as a GH4 owner. It doesn't need a fancy review. It just needs a few lines of explanation really... The battery is smaller, and 4K video eats it up quite quickly which is a shame because the GH4's strong point was run time for 4K on a single battery. Good points - image almost same as GH4, as near as makes no difference and the price is excellent. No LOG mode is coming though and there's no 10bit HDMI output so the decision is pretty simple, if you need to save money and don't care about long battery life, LOG or HDMI get the G7.
  2. By the time the supposed 4K 5D Mk IV comes out you can probably get a superior 1D C on eBay for $3k anyway. Likely $500 cheaper than the 5D Mk IV will be. But due to the A7R II I will no longer be shooting with either of them!
  3. Reviews are welcome, just post them in the main forum for all to see.
  4. Erm 1080p from Canon sensor (pixel binned) vs 4K from Sony sensor full pixel readout you say will be better in overall quality? Does not compute!!
  5. I recommend Edit Ready over Rocky Mountain. Much faster and better UI.
  6. In a surprise move GoPro have released a new even smaller camera which removes the display panel and 4K from the top of the line version, halving the size and weight of the device. Read the full article
  7. Thank you... so nice to read compliments. And I agree on the topic in general, this forum has come on leaps and bounds in the last 2 years. Thanks to everyone who keeps it interesting.
  8. A used FS100 is the answer If it is within $500 of the A7 get that instead.
  9. Noise, power consumption, ergonomics, sensor size, codec and the amount of features. They were all very much version 1.0s and came out nearly 3 years ago. $5000 is not a consumer price. It is pro. C100, Kinefinity and FS7 are also pro priced. I discuss both pro and consumer cameras on EOSHD. Is the BMMCC actually out yet? It doesn't make me as excited as the URSA Mini 4.6k but I would like to give it a test run, see if I have a use for it. I am happy with a fast rolling shutter for now and have little use for 1080/60p.
  10. Still cheap but aged. New BMMCC isn't that hot. URSA Mini 4.6K is exciting but not consumer priced any more! Blackmagic need to revisit the good old BMCC 2.5K era.
  11. Don't judge the A7R II from badly graded heavily compressed YouTube footage shot in pixel binning mode then Agree URSA 4.6k looks nice. URSA Mini is definitely a step in the right direction for Blackmagic but they seem to have lost their low budget magic touch with it as well...
  12. Sorry but vs the NX1 the A7R II walks all over it... There's no Speed Booster for the NX1 so that's a big factor. And the A7R II will be better in low light. It will likely also have much less rolling shutter. It has built in 5 axis stabilisation. It has proper adapters for EF lenses with full aperture control. Also an editable codec without transcoding. NX1 is great but pretty big difference above really isn't there!? And of course I shoot stills too... where full frame / canon lenses are what I use most. NX1 is neither is it?
  13. I can't believe there is not a Half Life movie and no sequel for years and years, it is almost as if Valve don't like money. Maybe they had their hands full with Steam!
  14. INT. 1970's bar, with health endangering cigarette smoke Kubrick - "So if we shot Super 35mm instead of Super 16mm, would anything change?" 1970's forum user "Hell no, don't bother with the camera, it's all about content! Content is king! Creativity is king! BLAH BLAH Kubrick - "Oh shit. Better cancel that order with NASA for the F0.78 lenses then! And I will no longer be needing those candles"
  15. Elsie is being a little optimistic. It functions but there's interference between the glass and the mechanical shutter so I don't recommend it for the GH2. Upgrade to the G6 or G7 and sell it. GH2 is in "red" on their chart here - http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-m43-BT3
  16. Oh yes forgot that one. No Speed Booster for that though so it can't be considered Super 35mm.
  17. Let's not beat about the bush the A7 is a great stills camera but an absolutely horrific video one, unless you LOVE tons of moire, no LOG and a poor low bit rate codec. May as well get the A6000 and put Speed Booster on it!
  18. I think it's unlikely because they will probably still want to give rich pros a reason to buy the GH4! There's not many reasons! 10bit HDMI, YAGH compatibility for XLR, erm...!
  19. That will be appealing. Until then there's always the NX1! It won't be before the A7R II does the whole 4K Super 35mm thing first. Sony want our $3200 and I don't blame them. Look at the investment in the tech they have made, it is enormous.
  20. I really want Canon to succeed, it's for our own benefit. If Sony gets a monopoly on sensor design we will suffer eventually. Imagine if Sony decided to stop working with Nikon. Where would that leave them? Canon are dangerously close to becoming a Sony customer. Already are for some models. Canon have an innovative CMOS division and even make the machines to make the sensors. They have 4K on a full frame sensor (1D C) it just needs to go into a more innovative camera and at a price we can afford. Currently on dynamic range and sensor capabilities (both manufacturing and end product) they are behind Sony. Not good. The joke about Taylor Swift fixing stuff at Apple is an internet meme. If you didn't get it, no need to say "EOSHD is off his meds again". But maybe join this generation. I bet Canon found it funny... all 11 employees under the age of 85 that is.
  21. JVC did. They have a Micro Four Thirds mount camera with Super 35mm sensor in it. Cooke, Panavision, etc. and they already have made a S35 camera, it's called the Varicam S35! In the consumer market there's a ton of lenses... all the APS-C and full frame stuff in the world for example. If Panasonic want to sell lenses like that there's nothing to stop them building some or outsourcing the work to Sigma. It has to make economic sense though. We don't need that now we have the Speed Booster XL for 1.5x crop in 4K and 1.28x for stills. Far better. The key thing for me is how Panasonic are going to compete with Sony. How would an updated GH5 with 2x crop sensor be better than the A7R II for either 4K or stills exactly? They HAVE to up their game on the sensor side.
