Canon EOS M3 Review - new sensor, new video quality?
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Perhaps, but only in the sense that they are all pretty rubbish. Get a NX1. -
(Bonus feature - watch the above video to the end for a shootout between the EOS M3, Sony A6000, Panasonic LX100 and GH2) The EOS M3 features Canon's new flagship 24MP APS-C (Super 35mm) sensor, the flag bearer for future Canon APS-C DSLRs such as the 760D. Now released in Europe and Asia but not in the US, does the M3 rage against the dying of the light or go quietly into the night? More footage and tests Read the full review

Panasonic GH4 firmware update V2.2 due to be released April 22nd
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That's an OCT 18 mounted on an after-market metal rig. It still doesn't need conversion. You get a working one and adapter from Ciecio7! -
Panasonic GH4 firmware update V2.2 due to be released April 22nd

Did the article say it was better than the Alexa? Nope. Merely more vertical resolution. I'd say that's quite an achievement for a $1500 camera though and definitely headline worthy. World would be a boring place if we wrote like you kodakmoment. -

Panasonic GH4 firmware update V2.2 due to be released April 22nd

You can't record internally at same time as outputting 10bit over HDMI regardless of whether in anamorphic mode or not on the GH4. -
Yeah why are all the new anamorphic lenses inferior to what consumers had in the 70's? What's going on there? The Iscorama wasn't cheap when it came out, but it was accessible for enthusiasts, small and sharp.

LG Digital Cinema Display Review - 4096 x 2160 IPS impresses!
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
What a moronic comment. What's the alternative - spend $10,000 replacing my Canon EF glass with Sony E-Mount, with most of them inferior or not even existing!? -
I don't agree, surprise. I've always said it's both. Take musicians. The moment you press a key on a piano it's about feel, mood, the sound. The melody is just one part of it. Similarly in filmmaking, you press that key - the camera - it has a certain feel, mood, the image. The story is just one part of it. It's important for a musician to evoke an interesting sound and mood. My friend recently bought a really old pipe organ from a flea market. You can't get that feel or mood or way of playing, with a M-Audio USB keyboard. Same goes for cameras and lenses... choose carefully.

LG Digital Cinema Display Review - 4096 x 2160 IPS impresses!

Pushing on the edges isn't part of my everyday usage of the screen See what you mean though. But LG + Philips along with Samsung are THE leader when it comes to the panels. -

Eizo = rip off. The build of the consumer LGs is indeed flakey, or appears so on the surface. This one is different. The 4K DCI build is miles better. MILES. -
External Monitor for Canon 1D C - HDMI Record/No Record
Andrew Reid replied to lafilm's topic in Cameras
SmallHD do nice stuff. Check out the DP4 for small and cheap. I was deeply impressed with the new Sidefinder though - and that without the finder is thin and small too, but really high quality screen. Zacuto EVF is small but pokey-small as a monitor. I don't love it. -
External Monitor for Canon 1D C - HDMI Record/No Record
Andrew Reid replied to lafilm's topic in Cameras
There's no 4K HDMI output on the 1D C unfortunately!! Capped at 1080p. -

Which models? The more we can evaluate the better. -
The catchily named "LG 31MU97-B" is in fact not a submarine but a 10bit IPS 4K DCI display with 99.5" Adobe RGB colour gamut. Is this a better option than the 5K iMac display? I think it could be... Read the full article

Canon 5D Mark IV "will be 1080p" with Canon LOG
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That's exactly what I noticed at Photokina as well. All the actual customers are at Blackmagic. All the suits were over at Canon. -
Canon 5D Mark IV "will be 1080p" with Canon LOG
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yes it's functional. EOSHD is more about the artistic / cinematic side where a workflow is a labour of love that takes months and a shoot is Kubrick like with 100 takes until the magic is captured. I have little-to-no interest in the functional side. I have my shot getters... FZ1000 for example. Don't need the XC10. That's just my opinion though. Your post Eduardo is pretty bang on in describing the other side of the coin. EOSHD as a blog is my opinion, it's only my perspective and others who are looking for the same tool. The XC10 is a bit of a fob-off by Canon because they are aiming at enthusiasts not just journalists and implying enthusiasts will love it... ahem... most won't. -
"EOSHD posts about it and suddenly everyone knows" Not true! Was never on the blog. A forum user started a thread. I kept it open and replied. Didn't want to censor it. I am sick of it now and so is nearly everyone else. Thanks for locking the thread Rich. You're a talented guy Ed... but please for the love of god... can we have the old Ed back shooting those amazing NY videos.

Best Recording Monitor under $1000: Atomos reacts to the BM Video Assist?
Andrew Reid replied to andrgl's topic in Cameras
That's genuinely impressive. Let's see how it performs in the real-world but looks good. How DO Blackmagic do the prices they do!? -
That shot is spellbinding. It has a 1940's technicolor look to it. Almost unreal. If you are going to push colour this much in post then it just has to be raw. Full frame helps a lot here too, with the separation of the foreground subjects even though there's a lot packed into the shot, it's quite wide. I think it's time for me to dust off my 5D Mark II again for raw (5D 3 is going to be sold soon so can't use it) and see if the 1D C's log can do the same fascinating 'extreme' colour grades, without falling apart. If this shot looks rubbish to you, it's time to get a proper monitor that can do colour right.

Canon 5D Mark IV "will be 1080p" with Canon LOG
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That's exactly why I think the Canon 1D C will likely be the last 4K DSLR from Canon.
