  1. Despite the lens being a loan, if I were a paying customer I'd be asking for my money back because Cosimo at no point before the lens shipped did you tell me the Kowa wouldn't work. I have all the emails and PMs. You kept this quiet until after the demo unit arrived on the 7th. Again it's a good job I didn't pay for it, because I would have had a bad surprise there. I was willing to help, like I am with all new anamorphic solutions, I want to try them and if they are any good help get the word out. Already this thread has had 20,000 views. Problem is the FM is not very good and I feel deceived. Also you said it would ship with the Schneider originally. If nobody at Anamorphic Shop in Latvia can be bothered to send a fully functional demo unit, then I can't review it. Simple logic really. What do you expect me to do, risk the £500 Kowa or buy a £500 Schneider myself which would be even more useless to me after I send the loan FM back!?!? Logic doesn't stack up does it!? Like I say I was willing to do the review but you shipped an incomplete kit with just the FM and no anamorphic, didn't ship any instructions and wasn't clear about which lenses I needed to use until after it plonked down on my desk in Berlin. Based on this mess I think you'd be the first to admit Cosimo that a bit more effort and a bit less hyperbole was needed to make this task of a review a bit less impossible.
  2. It's just been a big heap of frustration from the get go I'm afraid. How can you ship it with no instructions? I have the Proskar so tried that. I had to stop down to F8 just to get a usable image. I'll return the lens. It's not worth the trouble.
  3. Just did some research and the Iscorama's single focus mechanism patent is expired. Hopefully this will lead to some creativity on the part of new anamorphic designs.
  4. An update from me on the FM! A demo unit arrived a week or so ago, and I was lead to believe by Cosimo all along it would work with my Kowa 16H / 8Z. Actually the Kowa needs to be dismantled to fit as Hans Punk showed. I hadn't realised this and didn't want to risk my Kowa, so I asked Anamorphic Shop for a loan of the right anamorphic to use with the FM so we could do the review. Unfortunately I got a sharp reply back with nothing but a return postal address to send back the FM. So unfortunately there will be no review and no footage from me.
  5. They were all strays, and there were some stray hipsters there too, all wondering around without their flexibikes holding their paws up. Poverty striken place is Berlin. Sometimes the local hound comes to take the hipsters AND the dogs away all at once. The poor pup with it's paw up is probably dead by now, turned into cereal for Angela Merkel or something
  6. Again depends on the filmmaker and their intentions. It's a valid form of filmmaking in my book and if we went by what your post implies Rudolf we wouldn't have masterpieces like this... Koyaanisqatsi (trailer): http://youtu.be/PirH8PADDgQ

  8. They *HAVE* been making the processing, pipeline, encoding, CFA you idiot!! Can anyone in the class room of dummies put their hand up and tell me what AJA do aside from cameras!? Clue, it's the same type of thing as Blackmagic before they ended up in the camera business!!
  9. As long as it's from a respectful distance with respectful intentions there's nothing moral about it, no issues. The French are pretty relaxed about this kind of thing and in a city like Paris they are used to tourists with small cameras. Berlin where I shoot couldn't be any more different, it's hell. Full of self righteous idiots who think they have the right to privacy in the streets like it is their fucking bedroom. I have had countless nasty incidents and harsh stares from people who weren't even in the shot! It's like trying to capture atmosphere in a lion cage. I enjoyed the good old days of EOSHD taking my camera around Taipei as in Asia they are perfectly friendly towards you.
  10. It's a well known fact This is the sensor - http://www.cmosis.com/products/standard_products/cmv12000 Now... in the words of Charlie Brooker - go away.
  11. What I meant was that innovation was dying. It's clear they're bringing nothing interesting that's innovative or eye catching enough for a reader poll on the largest stills photographic sites on the entire internet.

  13. All legacy 3+ year old products. I'm talking about new sales.
  14. Jimmy you have 94 posts worth of self expression to your record on this site, and I have 5 years of experience and thousands of blog posts. So if you're going to criticise me for lacking research, at least do so from a position of strength, otherwise you just look like another Canon fan boy. Very few Canon users I know are satisfied with how little they have brought to the plate in DSLR video or for stills in the last 2 years.
  15. My job is my filmmaking and EOSHD. Much as I want improved products, I don't see my role as unpaid consultant to a major manufacturer. I could compromise my editorial pretty badly here in an effort to nurture that relationship. What for? I might get the occasional chance at a workshop (Samsung have already asked), but I'd rather be out shooting so would turn it down any way. There's very little in it for me. I just don't see myself in that role. They are welcome to continue reading EOSHD for my feedback though! I deeply respect and like most of the people working at these companies to put such amazing cameras out there for us. If there's a fault with the product it isn't personal, but it has to be pointed out for what it is. Not a single FS7 user has praised the menus yet.
  16. Here for the first time on EOSHD we have seen the potential of a top management consultant for Apple! You should be paid millions! You're a genius! So you suggest to any future Steve Jobs that by being more vague and sweetening feedback to employees, you will get better decisions out of them and a better conceived product? You are living in cloud cuckoo land. The point is, if you have such flawed menus, management needs to be tough enough to prevent it going into the final camera. It's not hard to read the blog post especially the bit about giving vague feedback like it's some kind of popularity contest with the manufacturers. It actually harms the product. If something is shitty you have to call a spade a spade. In engineering, if there is a design problem you don't sweet talk it until it goes away or make the designer feel good about his terrible mistake. All this watered down vague feedback is essentially to lubricate people like Johnnie Behiri's path into Sony's inner sanctum. They don't give a shit about honest feedback or improving the product.

  18. You will notice something striking about this poll at DPReview.com There's no Canon.
  19. Actually the Arri Mini will lose the C300 quite a few customers on Alexa shoots where it was standing in as a smaller b-cam. The FS7 will erode the C300's lead on the rental market as well, because it adapts to PL lenses out of the box with a simple adapter AND to EF with another simple adapter. It's more flexible. The FS7's 10bit and high frame rates are also a factor, as is dynamic range. It is incredible in that respect, I am seeing at least 13-14 stops in S-LOG 3. There's a good chance none of the rumours will come true and the C300 Mark II ends up being a 1080p cam, if so it's toast. Total toast. Burnt toast at that. Hate to be pessimistic but they may reserve internal 4K and the new codec for the C500 successor instead and charge same as the Alexa Mini! The C300 Mark II might just get a better EVF and screen along with 60p, a precedence Canon have already set with the C100 Mk II. Soon we will find out.
