The LX100 does flare, and not very nicely. Green splodge. Sometimes it is as if I need to call Ghostbusters.   However, still enjoying it very much. A lovely experience.

  Because Canon have taken great pain to separate their cinema and photography range. Cinema EOS was a big investment in marketing and R&D for Canon. Convergence is not yet part of their strategy.   This may change in the future of course.   But I cannot see their DSLRs being allowed to challenge Cinema EOS in any respect, for the time being.   Sony is different, they have always pushed the consumer electronics to the maximum performance. They are a consumer electronics company. That is their core business. At Canon, photography is their core business. Different perspective.

  Whilst there's some truth to that, image capturing and creativity is about a lot more - and part of that is the ability to keep rolling, for a long time. With raw you can't do that. And if you shoot a lot of stuff over months and years, you simply have no choice but to start deleting raw files, thus losing vital masters and all the advantages of raw in the workflow.   Artistically, it's utterly spellbindingly beautiful, but practically - not on all projects but some - it is a problem at times. The A7S is close overall and in some aspects even better - in low light and for highlight handling (it has a smoother roll off). The A7S doesn't need me or anyone else to be an apologist for it. What's to apologise for? It's a superb machine and we're very lucky to have it. If it was left to Canon, we'd be paying $10k or more for it.

  Thanks sandro.   I am in two minds whether to get the NX1. The sensor is looking very noisy. DPReview weren't allowed to publish anything shot above ISO 1600 at the request of Samsung. I have no NX lenses or adapters, whilst most of the functionality I already have with the GH4 including 4K. The H.265 codec will be great in the future but at the moment the lack of editing support means a lengthy transcode to ProRes or H.264 before I even begin to edit the files, and with that transcode you lose the space saving advantages that H.265 is meant to give in the first place!

  Either trim isn't really enabled despite what the software is saying, or you have the kext signing security feature turned off. Can you find out?

Thanks for identifying the sensor. Yeah DR looks on the low side. AltaSens is a wholy owned subsidiary of JVC so it's kind of an in house effort of sorts. Maybe they'd have been better off buying a Sony!

It's working for you because Trim is disabled, or your particular brand of SSD doesn't use trim and instead the firmware uses a different type of driver. If Trim is simply disabled it is likely your SSD performance will tail off over time, as Trim keeps things organised and tells the OS where the remaining free space is. There's a good explanation from huge Apple fans Samsung here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/us/html/about/whitepaper04.html If the Trim kext is loaded, in my case it could be that booting my MacBook Retina 15" with my iMac drive played with some settings... But that doesn't explain why so many others are having the same problem and that Larry & OWC are sounding off about it. How do I disable Trim anyway, or check if the kext files are loaded / enabled?

  And therein lies the problem!

Quite surprising how little C100 2 footage there is out there. You'd have thought filmmakers would be all over it. Perhaps they're all too busy shooting with better stuff, from Sony and Panasonic and Arri and Red.

  What brand of SSD are you using?

  It doesn't affect a Hackintosh. I assume the driver signing is off anyway on those systems, since the very definition of a Hackintosh is that they are a hack.   This problem comes when doing an official upgrade to Yosemite using the App Store on an official Mac system with third party SSD drive or external SSD caddy.

  It worked over USB 3 as Mavericks booted instead of the stillborn Yosemite installation. The problem comes when upgrading to Yosemite. Read the article.

Cannot see how the ergonomics of this camera rival the FS7 or C100 Mk II.

It's a crop. "The lens native angle of view". Not very clearly worded I have to admit.

JVC had a prototype of this camera (missed by almost everybody) at IBC. Now the LS300 is available for pre-order at B&H for just $4450 with an expected shipping date of February 1st 2015. It features a Super 35mm sensor, snuggly fitting in a Micro Four Thirds mount able to take advantage of lens adapters for almost anything, with an internal 150Mb/s 4K codec at 30/24p. It also has a built in ND filter and 3G-SDI output as well, so great for external recorders like the Atomos Shogun... at least at first glance. Read the full article here

Sony Active Pixel Color Sampling is coming and it is completely different to anything else. It solves the low light performance issues with global shutter sensors, makes ultra high frame rates possible and scraps the traditional bayer RGB filter altogether. Read the full article here

  Switch it from 60p to 30p and quality improves. Still not the best but perfectly usable. Let's hope the forthcoming 24p mode has a similar 'surprise'.

Quality video is never coming back to the DSLR line.   That is precisely what the Cinema EOS line is for.   And you must pay the asking price for it, or get a Sony.

    A lot of parrots in this thread, repeating things it seems. The moire comes from your non-4K display scaling the footage. It isn't from the camera.

Just bought one of these (Angenieux 35-70mm f2.5-3.3) in Leica R mount. Impressed so far. Will put it through its paces vs the modern stuff.
