  1.   Yes, correct. Should have mentioned that in the article really. But at ISO 200 it's there, and it's usable.   The other areas the 5D Mark III is ahead... Tonal range
  2. Keep the sample clips coming guys. Good stuff.   Still awaiting my Atomos demo units but good to see the tests others have done.
  3. DXOMark have tested the raw sensor output of the GH4. Raw stills have 12.8 stop dynamic range vs 11.7 stops on the 5D Mark III, illustrating just how far ahead almost everyone is on sensor performance over Canon. Read the full article here
  4. That 12MP JPEG is not that great looking at 100%.   I think once we get the A7S in our hands it will be interesting to see what the real deal is.
  5. All the high ISO footage from the Sony A7S so far have been highly compressed and streamed on YouTube. Here we have not one but two stages of very aggressive noise reduction being applied to the images. If you want to see it without the heavy compression removing all trace of noise, here's a full resolution JPEG shot at ISO 12,800 from the camera courtesy of DCFever... You can download it below... 6. Indeed... hardware scaler on the HDMI. No pixel binning. Full 4K sensor readout. 10bit 422 uncompressed oversampled 1080p on the HDMI output = very nice picture :)
  7. The smaller the camera the easier it is to put an ND filter in the narrowest part of the optical path. X100, RX100, Ricoh GR have tiny lenses. FZ1000 doesn't.   Also don't forget the RX10 is $500 more than the FZ1000 for that built in ND filter, and you lose 4K, gain moire.   I think it's fantastic value for what you DO get! No need to be angry at a few minor omissions...
  8.   A good point all round really. Canon will have to respond eventually for exactly that reason... Why not do it NOW and sell some extra cameras?   Canon are disappointing their customers at the moment with the lack of change.
  9. Anything for a film camera / SLR or full frame DSLR will fit.   Anything for an APS-C camera will not cover, though the Sigma 18-35mm at the 35mm end and the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 at 16mm do actually cover, but the corners go mental!   Seems like you would benefit from a copy of this Mike. http://www.eoshd.com/eoshd-shooters-guide-sony-a7-a7r-lenses   Welcome to the forum :)
  10. It is like being at a party and the atmosphere is great, but then someone rude enters the room and hurls abuse at the host and several guests.... what do you reasonably do so not to cause too much of a scene? :)   Fire them into the sun... That's what.
  11. View the FZ1000 at B&H or at Adorama The Panasonic FZ1000 looks like a very handy alternative to the Sony AX100 camcorder and RX10 bridge camera. It's also the world's first 4K camera (25p,30p) under $1k. At this price some compromises are bound to come into play and we'll get to those in a moment. First let's take in the rather lovely view... A 25-400mm Leica lens, 100Mbit/s codec for 4K, 120fps 1080p slow-mo and CineLikeD/V profiles just like the GH4. Read the full article here
  12. It's live. You just plug it in, but instead of hitting record on the camera, hit record on the external monitor / recorder.   Sony A7S also has a record trigger for external devices... Meaning you can just hit the record button on the camera as normal to trigger the external recorder to start / stop capture, so you don't need to touch the device, just the camera. Nice feature. Unfortunately GH4 does not have this ability with current firmware. Hope they add it by the time the Shogun is released.
  13. Michael Thames has been banned.   I took a relaxed approach from the start here but I've decided he's a malignant influence.   He introduced himself to me for instance with an insulting private message.   His posts so far have all contained some element of trolling, from passive aggressive to blatant flaming.   If you haven't noticed, you haven't had the misfortune to read everything he's posted!
  14. Right, next person to insult me is going to be for the chop. I have had enough. This forum is not about YOU. It isn't about what you think of the site name or fandom relating to brand X over brand Y. It is a place to learn and share constructive camera info.
  15. The post is tongue in cheek sanveer! It's not really an answer to the A7S. It's for telescopes.
  16. That footage is stunning... hello colour :) Hello dynamic range... I will definitely be delving into the HDMI output of the GH4 further next week.
  17. I'd go for the 5D Mark II with VAF-5D2b or Mark III (if you need extra low light and better performance in crop mode).   Better featured than the Pocket and better image quality.
  18. I definitely have a knee-jerk reaction to bullshit when I read it!   I thought the girls loved your 5D Mark III Michael, why the sudden change of heart? Are you trying to impress a Micro Four Thirds lady?
  19. I will be testing this with some Atomos gear before too long.
  20. 2 hands maybe, but there are more than 3 types of customers out there.   Seems our troll Michael has gone quiet. Maybe he has had to go out to the shop to buy some more bullshit.
  21.   This is a bit silly really... it is a photo sensor. The stills will be a huge selling point of the A7S.   Full frame is not a video standard. Doesn't make much sense to have a full frame sensor in a professional video camera. There's a reason Arri don't do that. Lens compatibility. Focus manageability.   It's not a NEX by the way... Right label is now Alpha. NEX is discontinued.
