  1.   80% of it will, but not the specific 5D Mark III stuff like maximum resolutions, performance, etc. Also make sure you choose the 5D Mark II version of Magic Lantern on the download page. Apart from that and a few other small bits, the rest all applies, and the workflows are the same.
  2.   Most the improvements to the workflows from now on come in the form of bug fixes with new beta versions, then final release versions of some software. All you need to do is to download the latest versions of the apps. The workflow itself doesn't dramatically change so the instructions remain relevant but I'm keeping a close eye on things and if there is a huge change in one the workflows I'll update the book. As it stands they are bang up to date and will give you pristine CineForm, lovely uncompressed DNG, and get you editing in Premiere, Resolve and Final Cut Pro X immediately.   The Ginger plugin for native raw editing is amazing!

  4.   Not sure I comprehend sir :) The shooting tips are in the 5D Mark III guide. Two chapters - first practical advice on shooting raw, then the cinematography and composition tips.   If you want to go deeper into the specifics of anamorphic composition on the other hand, that is in the anamorphic guide of course.

  7. 10% profit margin on $1 billion? Nuts. Maybe the solution is to make cheaper movies, and be more creative. Maybe the situation as we know it now is the last gasp of the old guard, and daylight will break through the clouds.
  8.   It's a camera that has little to do with Nikon really. It's got an F mount. That's about the only link. It's a JVC video camera. I don't know why people who read Nikon rumours are even discussing it.
  9. JVC have launched a "large sensor 4K" camera with Nikon mount. We saw a prototype of this camera a long time ago, reported here on EOSHD one and half years ago, the form factor and specs of the final model are remarkably similar to the prototype.   11.   It's happening everywhere! I went to a popular independent cinema in Barcelona last September. By April it had gone!   Huge loss in my view.
  12.   My theory is the German film industry suffers from too much professionalism.   The UK is a ragtag island of adults who haven't quite grown up and crazy ideas :) We're also a bit arrogant, on the whole we don't take cues from the audience or pander to what sells best. That in my view is why we're creative.   There are probably more hard working consummate professionals here in Germany but not very much room for playing around. As a result a lot of people in the consummately professional German film industry feel they are in a creative crisis and ignored internationally due to uninteresting output.   Salesman don't play.   These people grew up quickly into adults and began striving for careers.   It's essential to experiment, to play and to go crazy. The film industry demands it, always has. Creativity IS play.   The problem is just like with professional sport, the creativity and personality has been sucked out of it because it is striving for performance, like a machine and it's become too sensible and sterile.   A salesman's target is to sell in the biggest numbers possible, but they don't realise how the film industry works...   Good films come from play, and good sales begin from niche hits.   A salesman's job is to observe current market trends.   Essentially the film industry has turned into an observer rather than a creator.   The role of a creator is to create! Not just watch what sells best and copy it.
  13. Steven Spielberg has revealed the Oscar winning blockbuster Lincoln barely made it into distribution. "[It was] this close - ask HBO" Spielberg was speaking at the University of South California Film School. The problem he says is that studios aren't taking any chances on 'fringe' subjects and scripts, preferring established franchises and superhero schlock directed by wannabes. If Spielberg can't get his artistic film into cinemas, it bodes very badly for the artistic DNA of cinema and the viability of the business which for so long has fed of ideas and talent.   14. I recommend speed testing it in the camera. Magic Lantern has a set of benchmarking tools in the menus. The USB reader isn't as accurate.

  16.   I don't think it will be possible to upgrade core stuff like the CPU and GPU via Thunderbolt 2, as it doesn't run on the PCIExpress generation 3 bus.
  17.   12 cores not enough? I think it is. The GPU matters more, and that is brutally fast. It is just waiting for the software to catch up (proper optimised OpenCL support).
  18. I did a review of the EF version for Mac User magazine (print) in the UK too, and still no contact from Blackmagic. Zero support.
  19. The new Mac Pro is the height of a bottle of wine, with the diameter of a small cookie jar. Cutting edge in terms of technology it's also a radical departure from the old models in terms of design and in my view it is going to be a huge success though I'm expecting a huge price tag.   22.   Thanks and for the record I strongly agree. However runs their marketing program is completely out of touch. It is as if they went through Twitter looking at follower numbers and giving out cameras based on that.   None of whom have the MFT camera are actually MFT shooters! None of them use MFT cameras like the GH2 or AF100 for their filmmaking work.   Few of them are technical enough to give good beta test program feedback either.   I'm disappointed.   I had tons of stuff to try on the MFT camera... OCT 19 anamorphic, SLR Magic 35mm T0.95 and gems from 2-years worth of collecting lenses to suit the sensor size, in terms of my GH2 MFT lenses, yet some marketing muppet thinks 30,000 spambot followers on twitter are preferable.
