Let's be absolutely clear. The reason the GH2 performed as poorly as the iPhone in the empirical test was because the test administrator took a flawed approach. It has nothing to do with the true empirical, scientific, purely observational performance of the camera. I will put the exact reasons why this test is so flawed in a blog post once the latest Sony news has had time to cool down. The only reason I haven't yet is that I've been busy with the NEX-Hack community and I don't like having to point out negative things about Zacuto as they did a great job on Parts 1 & 2 and are generally a great company. We can forgive them the odd mistake I think.

It does solve the audio and rig issue of a DSLR if you are into shoulder mounted shooting. But it actually doesn't excite me that much to be honest. I've never been big on the ENG stuff. I can see Michael Moore giving it a spin though!

How many times is rolling shutter really a problem? Not that often in my opinion. John said in the interview that it is no worse than the GH2 and 5D any way. True the sensor probably has a global shutter mode but the image quality won't be as good in that mode - likely much noisier with less dynamic range. Look at the current specs of scientific sensors - global shutter mode always worse. This is why Panasonic haven't brought theirs to the market yet.

So if you haven't got that spare $3500 kicking around, just drag the good old sharpen filter to your timeline :)

It isn't a cheap FS100 unfortunately guys. It is an expensive NEX 5N.

It all looks more blurred vertically than horizontally, I agree for $6500 the 1D X is not on my list to buy for video.

I like the GH2 performance and handling. I don't like the methodology used in part 3, it is flawed. The GH2 shot is over exposed relative to the 7D because they used the same ISO on both. This is flat out the wrong approach as no camera has the same sensitivity at any given ISO in the menus, they are all different. Evil_thought2 - when are you going to leave this forum?

The rubber ducky mystery deepens. Are they still stroking their ducky in the factory or is there more than meets the eye? Is this October dealer thing coming about because this is when BMD initially told dealers when it expect plentiful 'in stock' cameras?

Having now watched part 3, I'm a little disappointed with it to be honest. I don't think the empirical test shots were handled very well at all. The window on the GH2 shot is blown out. So what? You wouldn't shoot like this. So the empirical is less important. But it is also flawed. Because the window on the 7D is underexposed dramatically compared to the FS100 and GH2, and I know for a fact the 7D has similar latitude to these cameras if not actually a bit less. Also regarding the ungraded shots - the GH2 and iPhone are the only cameras in the test that lack a dedicated flat picture profile for grading. So to try and push the lows into the mids on the GH2 shot to create a flat image goes counter to logic completely. It is no wonder it fell apart! There is a difference between an empirical test and simply mishandling the camera. The only thing it shows us that you shouldn't treat every camera the same. You wouldn't drink wine out of both a mug and a wine glass so why do the same with cameras? I much preferred parts 1 and 2. They told us far more information and more useful information with less holes in it.

Some dealers won't get their stock until October because they didn't place their orders early enough. That's normal enough.

Haha totally right Julian. We're talking about a price difference of $3000 for no extra video features and a microscopic technical difference in the anti-aliasing filter used resulting in a 1% (5% at best) difference in the image. The whole thing is bonkers.

I'd love to see an OM-D hack but I don't see the logic in asking a NEX hacker to do it. He is occupied and busy and the Olympus is a totally different camera and firmware.

Also all those totals are less than 1 days catering on the kind of shoots which would use a F65. So they are ALL cheap in my view, as presented in that data.[/font][/color]

He is free to choose whichever community is the most productive for the hack.
