But won't such a camera, for all intents and purposes, make the Sony F3 obsolete?
Apparently they have 2 other cams coming at NAB, one between the F3 and F35 :o
"the FS700 does 4K via 3G HD-SDI to an external recorder." My Red One does 4K and doesn't need an external recorder.
Does your RED one do clean low light and cost $8000?
News is spreading: This is another guys post about talking about the merits of 4K. Sony will have a huge winner here. The point is 1080p and REAL 1080p FS100: http://produktdbimages3.slashcam.de/..._klein_204.jpg Canon C300: http://produktdbimages0.slashcam.de/..._klein_260.jpg Both 1080p, C300 with 4 K Sensor.See the difference ? ^^
Have my doubts about those chart shots, which I saw earlier. Those links seem broken can you repost? Who says the FS700 won't do 'real' 1080p as well? Is that chart really representative? Why is the white so much brighter in the C300 shot?
And we're going to have to wait till September for a response from Panasonic? Anyone else nervous it's going to be too little too late?
GH3 in September probably, but that is not a response to an $8000 camera is it? Panasonic's response, if there is one, will also be at NAB. I'm expecting an update to the AF100 or a higher end version to compete with the C300 and FS700.
The resultant FS100 markdowns may make that camera worth considering for many. I still can't find a used one for that much less than a new one with rebate.
This is a big point... Not only does the FS700 spell trouble for Canon at the $16,000 mark, it will spell trouble at the $3500 mark as well. The 5D Mark III was not enough to compete with the FS100 at that level, and now the results are about to bite. My FS100 was $4200 on eBay. I can see it coming down to $3500 - not too much lower since it is still a fantastic camera and there isn't much else like it around at the moment. Who else thinks Canons seem be completely shackled by corporate immobility at the moment?? GET ON WITH IT

Sony’s answer to the C300 is a 4K Super 35mm update to the FS100. It will be available in June for a provisional $8000. $3000 Nikon D800 thrashes flagship $6000 Nikon D4 for video
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
No, D4 grab in article is fully representative. Those leaves are very smooth, hardly any fine detailed. Not a good test subject. Try a wide angle on landscape instead. -
So do you think a 4k Canon EOS dSLR is going to be more expensive than Canon flagship EOS DSLR the 1DX :o A flagship camera is meant to be the most expensive unless the 4K EOS dSLR will takes over as the flagship which is unlikely.
Of course it will. Cinema EOS range is aimed at cinema people. Their gear costs serious money. It isn't an Indie Cinema EOS range. Canon don't seem interested in us at the moment.

The higher quality patches are limited because of the size of the card and how much more image data they put on it. It is the trade off - performance or clip length? I recommend Vanilla if you are doing continuous takes longer than 20 minutes.
I think the imagery is amazing..... I know and realize the limitations. Hats off to JVC for at least starting something like this at under 5K.
They stitched together 4 1080p cameras. I don't want to be cruel, but it isn't going to be a solution that lasts for very long. Hats off to JVC for trying something different... But there is something wrong with them. Maybe not enough resources.
-
Great. I am in two minds over this. 1. Utterly support any indie camera manufacturer. They are needed more than ever. 2. A lot of money for a more gradeable image profile compared to the GH2. They have their work cut out but if the image is significantly more cinematic than a DSLR I will be getting one. Let's keep the Kineraw news coming on the forum. Cheers.

Nikon say "we will make our stills cameras for videographers"
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Sorry I think splitting the market makes more sense. Videographers need certain features and Photographers need certain features. Providing a balance means you're paying for features you don't need. Unless you just want decent video and good photo capabilities. I think this is the route Canon is going. The 5D3 provides decent video but it's mainly for stills. They'll release a cinema dslr to cater to videographers. If you take out some of the photo features you can provide more video features for cheap.
I disagree with you on two quite big points here sir... A lot of people DO want both pro stills and pro video in one body. Carrying just one camera as opposed to juggling two, plus lenses makes a lot of difference if you are shooting on foot in the real world outside of a comfortable studio. And then there is the issue of price and that full frame sensor. Name a video-only pro camera that does full frame for $3000 and I will buy it in a flash!! Oh... It doesn't exist. This is why so many videographers will be buying the D800 for video even though they have no interest in stills. -
The FS100 is almost a match for specs and image quality to the C300 despite being $11,000 cheaper and half a year older. $16,000 to $4500. Canon will need to justify this price somehow throughout the C300's 3+ year lifespan and I have no idea how they are going to do it. When newer cameras come along from Sony and Panasonic, some maybe as soon as NAB with better specs for less money who is going to buy the C300 at $16,000?
Low light in the D800 looking really nasty in this comparison with the 5D3. And moire. LOTS of moire. That was a really bad test, unexposed by several stops and with several stops difference in between the camera in the ISO test above 12,800. -

Nikon say "we will make our stills cameras for videographers"
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It is weird, I have seen very detailed brickwork shot with the D800 and it has come out fine, and I have seen stuff like this which is terrible. The problem seems to be limited to very fine horizontal striped patterns rather than all fine detail. I've been talking to Mosaic Engineering about a possible filter and they say if there is enough interest they may do one - so contact them and request it, show them how many people would potentially buy one. It is certainly doable and would help a great deal without majorly softening the superb resolution the D800 produces. -
Werent video on the D4 suppose to be load of rubbish ??? D800 HDMI out is only 8 bit. Looks like the first impression of the 5DIII handed Nikon some PR bonus points but we all know Canon has got something up its sleeve as Phil Bloom has just unleash the 5DIII video's potential. And if push to comes to shove there is always the firmware option to uncripple clean HDMI possibly 10bit and better.
8 bit isn't a problem. C300 is 8 bit! Yeah the D4 isn't very good apart from in crop mode. D800 however... The D4 is Nikon's offering for stills, the D800 is more of a convergence thing. It is a huge improvement for Nikon in video. Don't forget where they were last year. Nowhere. 10bit clean HDMI from a hacked 5D Mark III. You're optimistic. 9 tenths of this is about the will of the manufacturer to provide it. Don't forget there is only so much hacking existing functionality can do. Canon has clearly no intention to provide proper video in DSLRs now as they have their Cinema EOS range. -

CineStyle on the 5D Mark III and fixing softness in post
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I don't recommend it for 90% of 5D Mark II shots, that camera is a lost cause for fine detail to be honest. Maybe with the VAF-5D2 you can consider it though. -
Same goes for 5D Mark II lenses wise as goes for III. Nikon Ai stuff a good start. You can get a 50mm F1.8 for under $100.

My recommended picture style and settings for the 5D Mark III
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Certainly the sensor will. Not sure about the codec. It does seem to have more in the lows than before, I am able to get a lot back from an underexposed shot. But there is often a bit of a fizz from the codec, not ISO noise but something else, even in the mids, mainly in the green channel. -
My recommended picture style and settings for the 5D Mark III
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Thanks for the comment ;D I remember Gale Tattersall (House) saying 11 stops was generous for the Canon DSLRs. I'd say it was more like 9 or 10? 5D Mark III should be better given the new sensor... Looking forward to seeing how this plays out... -

Will Canon launch EOS Movie line as well as 4K Cinema EOS at NAB 2012?
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Zig, I believe no matter what new stuff is coming (and it IS for sure), the Sony FS100's price will be a lot lower than the new NAB stuff. Don't hold fire if you really need to shoot now. -
