It doesn't do anything for 720p or 1080i so I recommend to use it in 1080/24p cinema mode. Maximum clip length on highly detailed scenes will be around 1.5 minutes, then you'll need to hit record again. The higher the quality of video the faster you will reach the 4GB file size limit of the SD card standard.

The Olympus is double the price of the Hyperprime. Of course, since it is 2x more expensive, obviously it is a more advanced lens - silently focussing, AF, very small, very light, very sharp, hardly any flare. It is a bit more clinical than the SLR Magic though. I like both. The SLR Magic is recommended for those who can't afford or justify the expense of the Olympus 12mm. I usually use my Hyperprime at F2 anyway, since the flare is c*r*a*z*y at F1.6 - sometimes, actually, I like it but many won't feel that way!

I am also wondering the same about 4K, and whether it is overkill for the home? Certainly is for internet video. The human retina can only resolve so much, hence the iPhone retina display pixel pitch being almost invisible at normal viewing distances. Considering you are sat considerably further from a TV than you are from a phone, do you really need such a fine pixel pitch on a 50 inch? I'd say not.

The article is really more about the GH2 and FS100 in a positive light than about the C300. Since from my perspective, working on my own projects, image quality, lenses and creativity are at the top of my priorities, whilst durability, convenience, pro workflows and broadcast safe codecs are right at the bottom of my list. Remember who EOSHD is aimed at and decide what is most important for these people, because I do get a bit tired of commercial filmmakers thinking that the only needs in the world are the professional ones! They are right for them and their work, but not for everyone. I am not working. I am creating.

F0.95 isn't actually A LOT brighter than F1.2 or F1.4 but it definitely helps. It is more for a shallower DOF and a slightly dreamy look that I shoot wide open so much on the Nokton. Great looking lens. F1.4 or even F2 is fine for most low light shooting. ISO makes a bigger difference.

Agree, the 25 Nokton is one I use most often... Love it. Also look at Contax Zeiss 85mm F1.4... very nice.

Haven't seen those yet, cheers Sara. Out of Tunes is finally a video that pushes the camera. Very challenging lighting, lots of movement, high contrast backdrops. The C300 didn't handle the highlights as well as I'd have expected. For the web and Vimeo any camera more expensive than a GH2 is really overkill. Nobody is going to notice the difference when it is streamed at 720p on Vimeo to a laptop screen. Though that is now the de-facto distribution method for video and one we all owe a lot too, so I am happy to see it thrive. Often distribution channels drive camera technology. I have no idea how 4K is going to do, when there isn't yet the distribution infrastructure ready to support it outside a few $30k displays for home theatre and some upgraded multiplex theatres. This will change quickly but 4K is set for a VERY slow start in my opinion.

You are quite right Jimmy the DSLRs are Canon's FS100, it is just we haven't seen any yet. Existing ones too long in the tooth to compete now. Yes Sandro the usable area of Super 35mm is 21.95mm wide.

It is a myth it cannot compete with the FS100 or Canon C300. I am currently experimenting a lot with my GH2 and Nikon J1. I’ve seen some new opportunities with these… With the GH2 I am refunding my techniques for getting cinematic extreme low light at ISO 12,800 and F0.95. Due to the way CMOS sensors behave you are actually able to get a very film like ISO 800 grain over well exposed areas of an image and such is the F0.95 aperture on the Voigtlander Nokton and the high ISO, it is very easy to get an exposure in the dimmest of light. The noise is hideous in the lows and red / blue chroma channels, but you crush that noise out with a high contrast black and white picture profile and it solves the issue. There are no full 1080p samples from the 1DX out there yet to my knowledge. That one is 540p and compressed for the web, can't be judged. The G1X files are straight from the card and can be judged. I am sure the 1DX will be better as it has DIGIC5+, but in case of DIGIC5 on 650D and even 5D Mark III, this doesn't bode well. Remember that all the DIGIC 4 cameras had similar video quality across the board.

Nice image quality for Super 8. I see they will also have Super 16 and S35 models out. Any idea of release dates?
