A new industry standard: Fully controlled reviewers
Andrew Reid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It's important to realise none of the marketing is forced on people or dictated. The control is done by soft ways and by building personal relationships. In the same way I wouldn't throw a friend under the bus if he messes up, reviewers feel the same obligations to camera staff and PR contacts. That doesn't mean to say it isn't right or that it isn't wreaking the integrity of online communities and YouTube. -
Cinematographs are a pretty creative thing if done well, and you don't know how much time they took to implement it. It isn't as if they allocated 50% of the firmware R&D budget to a Pet and Food mode is it?

I'd have nothing against it having an OLPF but... 6K is low pixel density? No OLPF is the modern standard on almost all cameras in 2020. Moire and aliasing are trumped up today by chart tests. The real world situation is what matters more. The 5D Mark II was an example of where moire issue impacted real world shooting regularly. Even the surface of rivers and water had moire. Compare the Fp to that and you'll see the moire issues are virtually non-existent outside of pixel peeping. The AF is better on the Fp than the Blackmagic Pocket 4K & 6K but you don't see Pocket users complaining about AF! Why is this?

The school lesson for today kids, is: 1. Jack by all means MUST apologise in a lengthy monologue at the end, brush the ice from his hair and making clear that in no way is he morally right to come after his wife with an axe. 2. The "problematic and triggering" child abuse must be balanced by an extra 30 minute scene inserted into the middle of the director's cut, where Danny has counselling. 3. Rather than Shelly brushing all this off as a bad day at the office for Jack, she should immediately leave the hotel at the beginning of the movie and bring Danny with her. I think the film would be improved immeasurably for contemporary audiences with just 3 simple changes.

The New Panasonic G100 “vlogging” Camera to launch June 24th

What next? Panasonic smart fridge without ability to cool. Panasonic microwave with no waves Panasonic green energy saving light bulb with no light. And a GH6 without ProRes. -

I know this isn't how it works with classical media (magazines and TV) but isn't it enough that you PAY for the magazine in the first place... On the internet if you pay a subscription you don't expect to be fed a constant stream of ad banners on top as well. This is one of the reasons print media is dying. You are paying for basically a giant advert. These fucking magazines... They have all the character of a corporate sales brochure. And about as much wit, insight or controversial subject matter as an inflight magazine. Can you imagine one of my negative Canon articles being printed in Amateur Photography?! I see Imaging Resource is one of the worst online magazines at this point in terms of bland positive, everything is great. I think they even like the G100! -

Tim, there is nothing wrong with tasteful and honest advertising. The problem comes when you mix the editorial with the advertising. -

I did like that G100 piece. He nailed it. Totally got it. The humour is wry and I like it. Not all the time, but in general it works. He is absolutely right about the G9 being a better buy than the G100 for vloggers as well. -

Look at this total fail... "vlog" / VLOG marketing confusion. Unconvincing shilling. Completely uncharismatic Panasonic rep It's a car crash from start to finish. Embarrassing. -

It was pretty factual, not too hyperbolical. Making a camera is hard and reviews can really hurt sales. I can see why a company doesn't like it when the balance of a review is negative. I am sure there are those at Panasonic who don't like my thoughts on the G100! Well, they have to take stock of it and listen. Personally, I think Z-CAM do that. And that is the important thing here. The Camera Conspiracies guy seems to be growing to be mega popular. Like the next Kai. I must be missing something because I find it all a bit amateurish yet between them he and Kai are commanding MASSIVE audiences. To be honest it makes me feel really fed up because I've poured 10 years of my life into filmmaking and original content, but it turns out I should have just put on a funny voice and walk down the street making quips instead. Or is it just likeable satire? I can't decide. Sometimes he is actually right. He is right about the G100 for one. -

LX100 II, G95 and now G100 I also think no IBIS on GH5S was a major misstep, or at least not having that sensor in ANY body WITH IBIS was! I cannot see sales doing very well if they are going to make big mistakes with every new release. -
So done a bit more experimenting with the picture profile: Off function. It does recover highlight detail It does reveal a lot of shadow detail. If it barks like LOG, is it a DLOG? That is the question. Your RAW question @kuau: yes, RAW is no profile, but can be compressed to a LOG format after. LOG is a form of compressing the full dynamic range of the RAW data into H.264, ProRes, etc.

I agree But the internet was a chance for a change for the better. It is gutting to me to see it all unravel. -
Yes and it is cameras like the G100 which will topple Panasonic if they carry on investing hard cash into those terrible decisions that came up with it. I am genuinely concerned for the company. The full frame Panasonic cameras have not exactly been flying off shelves lately, either. I feel that one of the most creative camera engineering teams in the business is being badly let down by marketing forces and poor product planning / conception. Watching that dreadful Panasonic rep in the C5D video was unbearable. The idiots she takes us for. Atrocious. Saying they couldn't put a larger sensor on a connected device. They have already done it!! CM1! There is zero reason in 2020 with the technology we have that a micro four thirds camera cannot connect directly to social network sites via 4G. They are even cannibalising their GH5 sales with some shitty cheap camera, because the GH5 was a popular vlogging camera in its own right. I hope Panasonic have an internal enquiry into this debacle after the G100 sales flop and ALL those responsible take full responsibility. Fire them if required. And get the damned AF fixed on the S1 / S1H successors too. You an do it all quicker on a smartphone. A large sensor smartphone - maybe I would be interested, but they couldn't put a Micro Four Thirds lens mount on that, the optics would be too large to be jeans pocketable. Panasonic seem to think YouTubers shoot 1080p and edit videos on their iPad. In what year? 2011? 100% agree

This is not my experience and I've met Kinson at IBC in person! Very nice guys, open to feedback and they constantly fix and improve firmware. I believe you are confusing defensive fanboy users on Facebook with Z-CAM themselves! It is good enough that Kinson actually takes the time to engage directly with users on Facebook. Do you see the Canon CEO doing that? -

This video literally repulses me The way she dodges the crop factor specs is just one of the horrible things in it (5:20) Johnny being the other! -

I feel really sorry to write this blog post after all Panasonic have done for us over the years. GH1, GH2, GH4, GH5, GH5S, S1, S1H, LX100, a long stream of affordable 4K cameras and a big commitment to enthusiasts and filmmakers! But recently I feel they are making absolutely bone-headed decisions. Who is responsible? Thoughts on Panasonic G100 – Why they got it so VERY wrong https://www.eoshd.com/news/thoughts-on-panasonic-g100-why-they-got-it-so-very-wrong/ -

If they could be made to realise how profitable it would be for the entire industry, they'd probably be onboard but still pulling the strings all the same to get their products in front of an audience. -
But Flat is. The question is this... How close to LOG is it? Is it LOG by another name? Did Sigma have to change the naming convention for licensing reasons with Sony for their sensor?
