The most interesting bits I am wondering who made the sensor. Not many global shutter 6K Super 35mm sensors with PDAF out there from Sony that I know of! The Canon tie-in is obvious. I think this is part of an agreement with Canon doing RAW internal without violating RED patent.

Global shutter is pretty exciting, no?
  3. I think people will eventually get bored of shooting with the same narrow set of EF lenses. But the big advantage they have is the cross-camera compatibility. A huge plus over mirrorless lenses.
  4. I will have to push on with my YouTube channel double-quick pace. Really enjoyed doing the first video. However, I fear the written word is dead and here's why. Look how much space YouTube takes up on a typical Google search and how far it pushes the first result down the page for EOSHD. The first result for "Iscorama GH5" is this forum. But it's barely noticeable with all the YouTube videos. YouTube is a Google service and this is an abuse of a monopoly plain and simple and they should be taken to court.
  5. Don't forget GFX 100 is completely different class of camera. The sensor is a completely different size. Much larger. The look is different. Makes full frame look like a toy. As for rolling shutter, I have used both in real world. I am not lying when I say GFX 100 rolling shutter isn't as noticeable as the 1D X III. And I have been shooting F1 cars at 200mph with it. I have the footage to prove it, some of it (at 105mm no less with a sweeping pan) is in the YouTube video. Yes the 1D X III has 4K 60p with AF in crop mode but so does X-T4 and it's 1/4th of the price. Yes it has 5.5K RAW... but as already explained in the review it is practically unusable (file sizes). So for great video AF and 60p, choose the X-T4.
  6. I am wondering what the practical benefits are to the image with X-Trans too. Image detail closer to Foveon? Or is it better just to put more megapixels in a conventional Bayer CFA? And when it comes to video I expect X-Trans offers zero benefit, which might be why it won't be in the X-H2. I do like the filmic noise grain of X-Trans RAW files though, but you have to be REALLY pixel peeping to notice.
  7. Yeah it's not worth $6.5K unless you are a pro photographer using it day in day out for stills. I have no doubt it's the best stills DSLR ever made. No doubt about that. But video? Hmm. So many others that offer more in total. X-T4 is a total bargain indeed. If the GH5 was a bargain then this camera is even more. Add some Meike cine lenses or Sigma glass to the mix and you are practically as close to Arri / RED filmic quality as you're going to get for the money. Blackmagic Pocket 4K is quite noisy and feature-limited by comparison. And let's not even begin to compare build quality. Panasonic S1 with V-LOG update is the cheapest full frame 10bit 4K camera. The image that offers for £1500 is EXCEPTIONAL and there is nothing the 1DX Mark III in 4K 24p 10bit Canon LOG does that is significantly different, except the rolling shutter is a lot worse. So why pay so much extra? Under $2k or over $6K + astronomical CFexpress costs?
  8. So the X-T4 has DIS as well. DIS has been around since the NX1 in quite an effective form, but it actually tends to impact on the image more than IBIS in terms of the artificial look and warping. The only thing that needs updating with IBIS on the X-T4 is the addition of some kind of artificial intelligence that recognises human camera work and tells the system not to fight against it. As it stands, the IBIS will occasionally prevent smooth intentional pans and tilts. So in that case, you can turn it off and use a tripod or an OIS lens. A lot of people's results are impacted from having IS Mode Boost enabled as well, and expecting a virtual gimbal. Actually, the boost mode is meant for completely locked down shots, not movement. The autofocus is very reliable indeed in my experience so far. A big step forward from the X-T3. I noticed plenty of occasions testing it vs the 1D X Mark III where it actually outperformed it. The 1D X Mark III would actually miss. The real choice when the R5 comes out will be the R5 or A7S III? I think Sony is waiting to top it in a big way. By then there may also be a GH6 and X-H2. So let's not put all our camera potatoes in one Canon shaped basket.
  9. I think the X-H1 had conventional Bayer CFA?
  10. 1D X III 5.5K and 4K 24p - 32ms What about the 60p modes? Yes Leica SL2 full frame 10bit Panasonic S1 V-LOG 10bit 4K upgrade X-T4 with Speed Booster full frame 10bit X-T3 ditto X-Pro 3 ditto Blackmagic 6K with Magic Booster Blackmagic 4K with Metabones And quite a lot of hybrid 10bit cameras out there going all the way back to GH5 and GH5S. All much less rolling shutter than 32ms. No not true. SL2 and S1 for a start. I wouldn't consider full frame 10bit on these to have bad rolling shutter. Not compared to the 1DX III in 24p 10bit full frame, same settings. And they both have higher resolution sensors, which you'd think would make the RS worse.
  11. Pro Color is not a scientific tool for matching cameras in post. It takes all the subjectively cinematic and good things about Canon's colour science and applies them to a different camera, in this case Sony A7 series. Pro Color works on FS5 but it is more designed with the mirrorless cameras, more comprehensively tested on them. I would try it and if it works then problem solved. If not then your only option is to shoot LOG on both Sony and Canon bodies and match in post to the Canon faithful profile. Not easy though.
  12. The Sigma Fp videos above are not really examples of it, don't really show it. You can only see if it you try and make a flat profile, dial standard down -5 and raise the bottom of the custom curve up to reveal more shadow detail. Then shoot a scene inside with a lot of dark objects like camera bodies in it and you can see it. When you push the shadows down only slightly, adding more contrast, it disappears. Probably why it is more noticeable in N-LOG than with a flat profile on Z6.
  13. Nikon still has the problem on firmware 3.0? Blimey. Not a good sign indeed.
  14. Slashcam I would trust. Others not so much. DPReview don't even say how they arrived at the 28ms for GFX 100 or whether it was a scientifically measured test or just real-world impressions. So it is not easy to compare rolling shutter readings from different source as they all use different methods. In real-world tests people even all use different focal lengths and panning speeds. The S1H in full frame 4K/24p is definitely much less than 1D X III in same mode. The frustrating thing about the 1DX3 for me for the £6k, is that it clearly is capable of 16ms rolling shutter in 60p but cripples 24p with doubly worse rolling shutter. Why doesn't it use 16ms all the time?
  15. I would just like a £6000 camera that actually works as advertised! Have you got a link to where you are getting those rolling shutter timings from?
  16. Just noticed how Canon announced the camera... https://sg.canon/en/consumer/the-eos-1d-x-mark-iii-uncompromised-photo-video-performance/news Canon Announces the EOS-1D X Mark III, Built for Uncompromised Photo and Video Performance **** Why does Canon think uncompromised video performance means 32ms rolling shutter and no AF in full frame 60p? I think they are taking us for granted.
  17. I don't find the moire to be worse than S1R, Z7 or A7R III. Particularly as it shares a very similar sensor to the S1R and Z7, maybe even identical and Panasonic DNA very much in the specs too. Maybe the different filter stack gives you a sharper image from the lens? That could have contributed. But in no way is moire a big problem on this camera... You have the 5K mode and 4K/60p S35 which are full pixel readouts for a start.
  18. I am having problems with the jog wheel on my 1D X Mark III popping every full 360 degree rotation, so there is a mechanical problem there and my body will be returned for a refund and so this is only a short review. This review also marks a milestone for EOSHD! After 10 years of blog posts, I am going to be doing YouTube now as well! Looking forward to doing MANY a video and growing the channel in a big way. If you'd like to be interviewed, or featured on the channel, do let me know. So the 1D X Mark III then... https://www.eoshd.com/review/canon-1d-x-mark-iii-review-filmmaking-video-and-cinema-camera-get-the-fuji-x-t4-instead/
  19. I put my thoughts into a YouTube review. This is my first one, but one of MANY! Please don't expect too much The video also compares it to: Fuji X-T4 Panasonic S1H and S1 Fuji GFX 100 I won't spoil the conclusion for you. There is some Formula One bonus footage at the end from the GFX 100, and a show-stopping problem with my 1D X III.
  20. I am doing a YouTube video for the 1D X III review. Mattias Burling style.
  21. That's good to know then, that it recognises the Sigma 18-35 and makes use of the full 120 focus positions?
  22. Here is the take on the stills side...
