So very true Still sets a high bar nearly 6 years later. Especially with the high bitrate hack. That is a very good lens by the way, incredibly sharp for a zoom. Fuji's lenses are fantastic, however the Samsung version of that zoom was a stop faster at the wide end and had OIS. I notice the X-T4 IBIS has a mode which combines OIS and sensor stabilisation BTW. You should try the Fringer EF mount adapter for the Z6. The AF is like dual pixel AF. Works much more reliably than the Techart e-mount adapter did. The Z6 remains a very underrated tool. I think the problem is that almost all the competition is more interesting in one way or another and the body design make it look like a cheap Nikon 1 series thing. Yeah, I'm not warming to the feel of it either. X-Pro 3 and X-H1 far nicer and pro-feeling. The whole thing is covered in soulless, thin, faux leather. The way that fake leather covers the entire back of the LCD when it's closed - UGH. What were the thinking. X-T4, for want of a better word just feels a bit cheap? A bit clinical? Not as fun? Yet it has all the right features in the right place... Just played at a slightly tinny tone. I feel it will improve with a nice cage and wooden grip like SmalRig offers for certain cameras, such as the Sigma Fp. The shallow grip is woeful on the X-T4. The buttons feel no better than an X-T200. It's a bit of a shame, because the flip out screen, EVF, and new movie / stills switch are all good handling features. The X-H1 dialled down (no pun intended) the retro stuff and got it right. Why the X-T4 simply didn't just adopt the X-H1 body I have no idea. There doesn't need to be two lines at the moment. The one thing I DO like about the shutter dial is it's quick to go from 180 degree shutter to auto. I have 1/50 on T, Bulb uses minimum shutter speed in low light for video, and A is effectively an aperture priority mode for me. The ISO dial doesn't do it for me. Would rather have it on a jog wheel like normal. I find it depends a lot on the lens. Some of Fuji's best lenses like the 23mm F1.4 have old fashioned grinding motors and moving barrels during AF. They are extremely loud for video shooting and slower than the internal focussing lenses like the zooms. Fuji needs to update their primes and it was a stupid decision in the first place to put such old AF tech in the lenses. On the camera body side I feel the AF is fundamentally good but still not as reliable as it should be for video. I also like the Micro Four Thirds 1.95x crop mode at ALL resolutions and frame rates F-LOG is great for maximum dynamic range, at least 12-stops by eye, and the view assist works well too although could use a contrast adjustment slider. It does take longer to open out than a tilt screen, but it's horses for corses...pros and cons. The GH2 had one. I loved it, never had a problem with it. The finger hole to undock it and the mechanism is a bit too stiff and fiddly on the X-T4 though. The Nikon Z6 I think is a bit of a Canon EOS R6 type camera, if that is how we expect it to turn out - not quite a 1D X III with RAW and 5.5K but 4K at normal frame rates, a good all rounder, with good colour and decent AF with EF lenses (Fringer adapter). I feel the X-T4 neither has the nimbleness or fun of an NX1, but it doesn't lack for features that's for sure. It feels like Fuji has one set of designers on X-H1 / GFX 100 and another set on X-T series. One side is designing pro cameras, the other side is a bunch of hipsters with their retro ISO dials and should be fired.

What happens if you remove the mic, allow it to recognise your face and then move the mic slowly into position. The other thing you could try is a smaller AF area, move it over your face and keep it away from the mic. Or manual focus and stop down.

Just needs a wooden grip like my other Fujis. Apart from that, camera is looking good... IBIS is fantastic.

I would like them to release a wooden grip for my X-T4. The skimpy grip it has is dreadful!

I would wait to see for the real-world performance of the EOS R5, especially the 8K RAW and 4K/120fps. Plus most of what we liked about the 1D X III could end up on a much cheaper EOS R6. $6500 is a lot for a DSLR these days, even if it is indeed the best one ever made. Mirrorless cameras are a much nicer shooting experience for video.

Exposure issues IBIS issues Anyone would think the X-T4 is completely broken. I think we need to point the thread in a more positive direction. These are very minor issues. Let's let Fuji know, but let's not dwell on it for page after page. It is a bit uninspired.

The trick is to lock your exposure at the start of each shot. Even smooth changes are un-cinematic, in my opinion. But yes Fuji should definitely fix this! I shoot in A priority a lot, and use Auto ISO a lot. I don't want it to change in the middle of a shot, but if it does, it shouldn't ramp from 400 to 800 in one frame!!

1D X Mark III sensor readout is at a lower resolution, and higher frame rate. Each sweep of the sensor will be quicker, as there's half the lines of resolution to read out compared to the R5. You don't need to look at any maths. Just look at the logic. If the R5 is going to be 25ms (it hasn't actually been tested yet), this is still a very good result for the resolution (8K / 4320p), compared to 4K with just 2190 lines. So the R5 sensor is extremely fast. Comparisons to the C500 II are moot as that is $15,000 and designed to do only 4K... It's a much lower res chip. If we are comparing rolling shutter it should be in 4K/120p mode to other 4K cameras of the same class, type and price. I think the rolling shutter in 4K on the R5 is likely to be sub 10ms.

Not good?! It's phenomenal silicon. I have no idea how Canon is even contemplating that much data... 45 megapixel at 40fps is astounding. And all that has to be compressed to complex H.265 at up to 30fps as well. So not only is the sensor readout bandwidth extreme, the image processor behind it is a massive step up for Canon. Where is Sony's 8K in an A7? A7 III chips are older than yesterday's reheated oven chips.

Here it seems like an editing choice in the video. A purposeful chop / skip. Until I try this camera myself it is tricky for me to know what other people's shakey hands are doing 😂 IBIS can only do so much. Fuji has past good form with IBIS. Sony's is really weak, compared to my Fuji X-H1. Yes I plan to pair it with a Baby Hypergonar! Works on a Super 35mm frame at 55mm. I'd like Fuji to add a firmware update for 4:3 shooting, up to 60p. Max res. Sensor is capable of it.

If you shoot ALL-I H.265, you lower the burden on the CPU vs the Long GOP IPB variety. H.265 is hardware accelerated by a good quality GPU. Also, with SSDs coming down in cost, that's an important ingredient in a fast system. H.265 saves you a lot of money over storing everything in ProRes too. I am not against editing it. But camera makers need to get real about offering the choice, internally - ProRes should be one of the options.

Try turning IS Boost off, see if it frees up the camera a bit for panning motions... That is designed to mitigate even the smallest movement for a locked down shot without a tripod. I wonder when Sony will have an answer to the X-T4. They must be losing a shit ton of sales.

RAW sensor data does not have a "format" other than being RAW sensor data. No LOG, no colour profile, no white balance. It's output as RAW data but the Ninja V I think interprets RAW as V-LOG on the screen, so that you can use a LUT.

I missed the tiny A7S body when they replaced it with the larger chunkier heavier one. If they can go back and do it properly, but keep the size and weight the same, that would be nice. Not everyone wants an S1H size mirrorless camera.

Some older Sony bodies in the phase between Minolta / Alpha cross over were superb. A700 and A900 top notch stuff. Better menus than now, and Minolta colour science, tons of Zeiss glass, including the best OVF on the market at the time, still one of the best to this day... It had a lovely built body, great ergonomics, responsive operation and no major flaws. Then they go and do shit like the early NEX playstation cameras which ergonomically are toys. They are still doing it today with A6300, which was one of the most flawed products the ever made - over heating, rubbish ergonomics, it is a shadow of a camera compared to Fuji's APS-C cameras, no matter what the specs sheet says. Sony are only now starting to make baby steps towards a refined, nice to use body. A7R IV is alright. But it still lacks a soul. Pocket potato. *Shudder* Does this rig involve a wobbly HDMI cable sticking out the side by any chance, along with a tripling of the weight, still no EVF, a big brick of a battery and no balance whatsoever for handheld shooting? No thanks. I'll take my mirrorless camera any day. Imagine how nice an NX2 would have been with IBIS. Biggest shame of the decade that we never got that! Yeah no 10bit and specs look a bit reheated, but the E-M1X is damn FAST though, and built like a tank. Fastest shot getter in the west. In no world is the GH5 a heavy camera!

Yeah I liked the X-H1 when I took it to iceland, the IBIS was pretty extreme, really locked-down. Not elegant at pans like the Sony, but much better at reducing shake from car window, got some beautiful landscape videos with it. Couldn't be bothered to edit it all together for the internet though 😆

Yeah NX1 still amazes me, how something so 'conventional' in design feels so right. The smooth curves, big grip, direct controls, lightning fast responses, superb build quality, great screen, and then there's the image itself and the colour. Easily holds up today!
