Why you're better shooting video in stills mode on the Sony A7S
alanpoiuyt replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
While rolling? It seems you still just get 4x zoom identical in resolution to movie mode while shooting manual but you do get that second option of 5.7x zoom when not recording. Let me know if I'm missing something - would love that extra punch in while shooting. A7r punch in is superior in resolution for some reason - more pixels maybe? -

High ISO is gonna help lo light slomo situations when doubling shutter speed. I like that. -

Nice little demo - watch on youtube and crank up the resolution -
Hey Andrew - was shooting stills last Saturday night at a Christmas party with the classic Nikkor "Noct" 58mm f1.2 and getting incredible 3d-like renderings with the A7r. Some guys started jamming in the garage so I shot one song down and dirty, hand-held one take - faked some inserts - but look at the 3D quality of the frame grab. All shot wide open.

+1 So bummed how 1080 60p AVCHD is looking on the A7r. Wide shots are mush.

On Test - The Final Slr Magic Anamorphot 50 X 1.33
alanpoiuyt replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah - there was no ND but this may have been an earlier version - Andrew Chan mentioned they were still experimenting with coatings at the time. -
On Test - The Final Slr Magic Anamorphot 50 X 1.33

Hey Andrew - passed my GH2 around with the Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 wide open when Andrew Chan was in LA for a meet up. Guys were instantly shooting with it - no problem. You'll see there are moments of tack sharp focus in the video. Again - this was very informal shooting and the Anamorphot was a breeze to set up. -
Canon 7D raw with Magic Lantern - 1st sample footage in the wild
alanpoiuyt replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
My next camera will probably be the BMPC. Global shutter will make all the difference in the world to me chasing after people in the doc world. Not having to be tied to a tripod or bad post stabilization trying to deal with jello will change everything. Very happy about a S35 sensor too - if the BMPC would just appear out of the ether someday soon ;( -
Canon 7D raw with Magic Lantern - 1st sample footage in the wild
alanpoiuyt replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I'd love to see some ML raw footage shot indoors, low light with some human beings with some healthy skin tones for a change instead of guys testing outdoors. I can produce footage like this 7D test with my GH2 or D5200 all day in sunlight. Please, how about a real world cinema test for a change? I really believe in the whole ML raw thing but come on guys, shoot some people indoors. Just went digging and found Andrew Wonder's "Skin" https://vimeo.com/69294861# Maybe something a little more inside the box? -

Really great shooting and editing, Brandon. I think this camera is really getting overlooked as one of the great super35 shooters. So glad I grabbed one - it's been very inspiring. A little Filmconvert goes a long way too -

Hey Andy - a little off subject but congrats on your new G6 _I'm very interested in this camera. Could you see if it shoots 50/60p in Ex Tele mode? Also I love my D5200 and a raw hack would be awesome. -

Could Nikon be about to enter digital cinema market?

Loving the image out of the D5200. Thanks for the heads up on that sensor, Andrew. Shot this on Sunday. No CC - just Filmconvert. Really like Nikon's colors compared to my GH2. https://vimeo.com/64274981 -
Grabbed the D5200 yesterday. Great find - thx Andrew. I'm have trouble finding your recommended custom settings tweaks in the menu. How do you get to sharpness, contrast, tone, NR etc?
-
Andrew - these urban nighttime glimpses of Berlin are always cool but I'd love to see a daylight or lit comparison of skin tones. I've always struggled with skin tones on my GH2s and would like to see how the D5200's color science compares to Panasonic's. This alone would steer me towards Nikon as capturing a flattering human image without jumping through hoops is of utmost importance to my work. Thanks - great intro to the camera.
At 1:20 in the video, there is a switch on the lens that says "Focus pull." Anyone know what this is??
That's Focus Full or Focus Limit switch. On certain auto focus lenses you can set a focus limit range so auto focus isn't hunting in areas you don't want it to. Looks like this lens in the video; http://***URL removed***/lensreviews/panasonic_45_2p8_o20
