First look at the new ReWo Blackmagic Cinema Camera Cage

Late October for BMC to arrive? You are an optimist  They are only now expecting some shipment of sensors and havent even started manufacturing. Remember it is Australia we are talking about not China, they don't work at speed over there. -

I think by revealing that the much more expensive 1DC is in fact a cheaper 1Dx with a firmware upgrade it will no doubt upset potential 1DC customers. One thing customers don't like is being short changed by manufacturer. We are not talking about hardware or software limitation here. It could be that the 1DC is not selling very well and allowing leaks that a potential firmware upgrade of the 1Dx to a 1DC to get more people buying 1Dx. -

It does make you wonder what the 5DMkIII is capable of if Canon give it a Cinema C style firmware update. -

Not really impressed with the quality from the last video.

A big improvement in DR and bitrate. However there is still a process look about it and should never be compared with the BMC whose quality outclassed the GH3 by a country mile. For those who ordered a BMC especially MFT and you are not too bothered about not having 60fps your money would be better spent on new M43 manual lenses instead. On the other hand if your budget is $1200 and you wanted a video dSLR it is a no brainer, go for the GH3.

China/Japan spat over island threatens Panasonic and other Japanese companies http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19620114 Worst still is the potential rare earth shipment to Japan or elsewhere for Japanese companies being suspended. -
Okay - let us try it simpler, then. :) [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]GH1 - June 2009[/background] [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]MSRP (with 14-140mm) $1499/1500[/background] [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]GH2 - At Photokina 2010[/background] [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]MSRP (with 14-140mm) $1499.95[/background] [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]Adjusted for inflation, the GH1 is ever so slightly more expensive. :)[/background] [background=rgb(247, 247, 247)]GH3 (Body only) currently at $1299.99 street[/background] I do not know what the kits will look like, but if we are just looking at that, it seems expensive.
Its like comparing apples to oranges mate. Inflation adjusted, how about technology changes and market expectation? GH1 camera if released today even at MSRP price would not be anywher near it was in 2009 so forget that theory.. Inflation adjusted means the GH3 is only marginally more expensive than the GH2 when it came out in 2010. The GH3 is not an incremental upgrade we saw from GH1 to GH2 but is now a whole new level comparable to the Canon 7D replacing the 50D.
-
I will thank you to accurately represent what I said, if that is not too much trouble. :) The lens was not available separately at launch for the GH1. The GH1 was not available as body only at launch. The body depreciated rapidly - the lens did not. I quoted the price for the body "later on". The lens had not yet depreciated significantly when the GH2 launched. It has depreciated greatly since then. In other words, a lens that had not depreciated and a brand new body with improved functionality across the board (MJPEG going from 4:2:2 to 4:2:0 being the only exception) sold for the same MSRP. I stand by my original statement and evaluation.
But you are dealing with MSRP. If you want to talk about depreciation just wait till January and the price of the GH3 will be even less than the GH2 MSRP.
-
I understand your quote about differing markets (no qualms that need to be addressed yet in that area) but the price increase? GH1 - June 2009 MSRP (with 14-140mm) $1499/1500 Later on the lens sold for $850 alone but too much time passed before a body only configuration was available to give useful data] GH2 - At Photokina 2010 MSRP (with 14-140mm) $1499.95 (With 14-42mm) $999.95 Body only $899.95 I do not see a price increase from the GH1 to GH2: they both launched with the same MSRP in a kit lens configuration. We see a pretty strong price increase from the GH2 to the GH3 in a body only configuration.
There is a price increase from GH1 to GH2 going by your calculation. I hope you are not an accountant or doing someone else's  GH1 - June 2009 MSRP (with 14-140mm) $1499/1500 minus price of lens at $850 leaves you $650 body only. GH2 MSRP $900 gives you about $250 increase over GH1 MSRP GH3 MSRP $1300 is about $400 over GH2 MSRP but with a much bigger jump in build quality and feature upgrade Its about right to me.
-
@Simco123 If the GH3 can meet or exceed the GH2 in every aspect, and it adds a better build and some new features, then a price increase is justified. My comment was about the specifics of that price increase. The body only is launching for 44.4% more than the MSRP for the body only GH2. I think many people expected no more than a 30% price increase, etc.
I don't know were you got this "many people" from. GH2 had a small price increase over GH1 and GH3 with a lot more thrown in over GH2 and it appears GH3 has gone upmarket and targeting some section of the pro market competing with the alternative FF rivals.
-
After seeing the built and video quality (and features for sound), of the GH3, I am guessing, it will be noticeably more expensive. Maybe around US$ 2000, with the lens kit (or, maybe, a little under). That's just my guess. Also, because, This Time Around, Panasonic are gonna go All Out, to make sure it outsells (justifiably), all other DSLRs, that record HD Video.
It is $1299 at launch. I expect it to drop to $800 in January. However it does not appear to have weather proofing according to Samys.
-
The build has moved up that would merit a price increase. However like all things dSLR I expect price to fall by 1/3 in a few months to $800. With the BMC delayed I think GH3 will do well and a perfect B camera for the BMC MFT plus it does 1080p 60fps to cover for the lack of it in the BMC. No weather proof
It's not like you need Resolve and Ultrascope to use the GH3, is it? You do need it to work with BMCC raw material though. And if you do need Resolve, there's a free version.
Its not like you need a camera either. Sorry the free version you are alluding to is a demo. If Resolve is not included with the BMC then its is less value for money. -
Everything I dislike about the GH2 remains on display. Those people look so green it's as if they are half-lizard. The color science is more like color fraud. Sorry if I have insulted your baby. But look at the lovely use of color in Reverie in comparison...sure we see the macroblocking and aliasing today, but at least the thing doesn't make me wretch. Bruce Logan's color work in the Zacuto shootout 3rd episode was stellar. This is the camera, not those professionals.
Agree about the skin tone, its a bit yucky. Lets hope the production camera makes it more gradeable to reduce the yuckiness. -

Simco123 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It costs 1/3 of the price, probably even less considering all you have to buy to be able to use the BMCC properly, that alone is a huge reason. Stills and 1080/60p are another couple great reasons. Do you have any doubts that Panasonic will sell thousands more GH3 cameras than Black Magic Design?
Free Resolve 9 and Ultrascope, take that into consideration and the GH3 will not be so cheap when you take into account the expected price increase over GH2. -
at least it´s not sexist as the bmcc shots. but doesn´t make it the better camera unfortunately. still looks videoy and over sharpened. and this from the "cinematic" guy... also i don´t get why anyone wants a dslr after the bmcc is out.
Of course this one is sexist too. Half naked man sprawling over the bed and then getting on his knees. Not exactly gender neutral PC clap trap in either samples. -

Its a good short, Bloom did his bit but it is a team effort and not the work of one man. I can see some emulation of the 70s Milk Tray ad and similarity of both this and Reverie. Yes indeed huge jump in DR with lot more colour tonality. -
