1. Sara, did you actually bought a D800 for video?
 2. Ao is the D4/D800 clean HDMI out is 720p not 1080p?
 3.
This doesn't make me confident in the 5dmkIII.  Sure there could be focus errors as listed in the comments.  However the footage sure looks like severe noise reduction and softness in the image. 5dmkII looks sharper with more noise.  I sure hope the final version doesn't have these issues.  Of course I'll get a 5DmkIII for the better stills improvements (I shoot a lot still photography) but the video side has only slight improvements so far.  I hope I am wrong but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
The presume softness you are witnessing is most likely the absent of noise artifact dancing about which gives the impression of sharpness.
 4. I find that guy from DigitalRev bloody annoying. The Gok Kwan of the camera world >:(
 5. From the few details I came across it appears D800 and D4 HDMI out only 30fps has been confirmed. I don't believe in free lunch and not holding much faith in D800 because it price is too low than what the spec suggest is capable off.
 6. @fljoe Thanks, I've registered and downloaded. There are 11 driftwood, which ones do you recommend? I tried the last one but when playback I had to switch the camera off and on in order to see the playback. Does it improves on 25fps HBR mode?
 7. I am trying out the Quantum hack but how do you download patches from this page :( http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2364/driftwood-quantum-x-v3b-rocket-v4b-orion-v5-%CE%B2-pictoris-out-now/p1

"The quality of stills on the NEX 7 are astonishing and at the 5D Mark II level. It is like an APS-C version of that camera image quality wise." Get lost!!!! The samples I've seen from the NEX 7 doesnt come close to the 5DMkII. You can compare RAW samples on dpreview. NEX 7 ISO 400 noise is about the same as the 5DMkII at ISO 1600, a 2 stop margin but despite the Sony's higher resolution it is not as good as the Canon on finer details http://***URL removed***/reviews/sonynex7/page27.asp
I don't know what you are seeing, but to say the NEX 7 doesn't come close to the 5D MkII for stills is just plain wrong! At base ISO it is giving more detail, in RAW and JPEG. At ISO 1600 again in RAW it is only *slightly* noisier and yet STILL resolves more resolution and is less soft. In JPEG the noise reduction engine is more advanced in the Sony since it is far newer in terms of image processing. Also an APS-C sensor is less demanding on your lens in terms of coverage, vignetting and corner sharpness. Plus you can adapt more to it. The NEX 7 beats the 5D Mark II hands down for stills. Probably will write an article about this since I have both and do actually use them for stills as well as video. By the way, the manner in which these sites (DPReview, etc.) test ISO is really silly, under bright studio lights. All the results above are much noisier in REAL low light shooting than they appear there.
I think you are either looking through rose tinted lens or trying to ignore reality by trying to hold on to an mistake. The example you posted on the medallion flatters camera with higher resolution but even your example shows how noisy the NEX 7 is compare to the competition. Take a look how bad the NEX 7 is and no prize for guessing which camera delivered the best IQ Unless you are shooting at base ISO in good lighting I suggest people who shoot above ISO 800 to avoid the NEX 7 like a plague. Even at base ISO the higher resolution NEX 7 lacks fine details compare to the 5DMkII and that is not good.

 10.
It has the exact same body as the 7D but with relabeled buttons... hmm!
Are you suggesting photoshopped? If you look carefully there is no pop up flash. The molding is different from the 7D.
 11. The C300 is a very good 2k video camera. Having 4k video doesnt automatically make it better than one with 2k even though there are some advantage in cropping, help with stabilization or add shakes in editing. Therefore it is entirely plausible in the near future you have bad 4k video tagged on a several hundred S mobile device that couldnt hold a candle to the video even on the old 5DMkII. The Canon RAW patent has been filed since the middle of 2010. Most patents should it becomes a reality takes about 2-3 years so their concept video dSLR do fit into that time frame.
 12.
Didn't Sony collaborate with Zeiss, not Leica? Panasonic collaborate with Leica. Make a good enough product and you will be taken seriously, who gives a shit if the Japanese industry doesn't take you seriously? If a new Japanese company entered the photographic market and outsold Canon, wouldn't they be taken seriously? Sony bought Minolta because they needed the expertise.
Yes it was Zeiss, my mistake :o Sony bought Minolta not only for the expertise but taken on the right to make SLRs. For many none Japanese they will never understand why a company cannot simply break the mold, that why you get constant complaints on forums about why did they did this or cripple that. Japan is largely a homogeneous society, it is how they conduct their business too.
 13.

Why doesn't that apply to Panasonic?
Because they make their own sensors. What is being implied is that Nikon need Sony to produce their CMOS sensors, and Sony won't allow them competitive video. Not a view I share, but cannot be discounted completely.
Just one of many reasons. The other is Nikon don't do professional video cameras and to do so they need to have a historical heritage to be accepted by the Japanese business community ran by traditionalists that honours a system of heirarchy. It took even giants like Sony hard earned effort to be accepted into the SLR manufacturer community only after collaborating with Leica and more so recently the purchase of Konica Minolta because without these heritage companies under their wings/ownership they don't merit as a professional still camera company and would take many more years to enter the market albeit very slowly.

Downscaling is effectively crippling therefore the quality is going to be poor. Appears Nikon D4 was allowed clean HDMI because the video is going to be crippled or downscaled and will not compete against the true high end video cameras.
Why would Nikon cripple it? They don't HAVE any high end video cameras!!
What I've said. Combination of patent agreement and Japanese protectionism. Sort of like we help you make your sensor for your camera, doesnt have to be this camera but for that camera so long as you cripple the video on your flagship camera we don't mind you having clean HDMI out. Japanese don't like losing face and Canon is not about to either.
what about the GH2 then?
What about it?

 17.
You pre-ordered a $6000 DSLR primarily for video when there is the Sony FS100 for $4700 (B&H)? Why? This is not a cynical question. I really wanna know.
He has got loads of dosh selling his ideas on how to use GH2. I probably do the same  :D I would rather spend the money on the Canon Cinema dSLR comming out later this year.

 19. Perhaps Nikon is using shared technology? Things like patent agreement may limit what is and is not allowed for a still camera. Perhaps it is not so surprising that the D4 clean HDMI output is restricted to 30fps.
 20. They not done it with PC.  We were told 20 years ago that they will do away with PC workstation and everything software wise held over the server with just screen and keyboard for user to interact. Even back then we had dumb terminals which were touted as the way forward. 20 years later we are still using PC essentially the same basic design as it was. The powers that be all decided it is not worth the risk and maintained the status quo because adapting different technology would put PC manufacturer out of business. Just think we could have had solar powered cars many years ago but big influential oil companies decide how we spend our money and not always some geeks. Even Jobsy has a number of failures.
 21. I know I don't trust CR for reliable information. Today it mention about bringing eye control AF back from the film days for the next 5D. Some people say it doesnt work that well, however such a feature with video optimised lens could potentially be revolutionary for professional video. Maybe not with the next 5D but the Canon C 4k camera ;)
http://store.redrockmicro.com/livelensmft or the kipon http://philipbloom.net/2010/12/17/ne-adaptor-for-using-you-canon-eos-lenses-on-gh1-gh2-af101/
Redrock ones is too pricey but $399 might persuade me. I have a Kipon, hated it.
 23. I very much doubt the 1DX video is as bad as the G1X. Canon said  the 1DX video is lightly compressed, that is not what they claim for the G1X. There is a lot on the video side the C300 can that a dSLR cant. Surely we all know by now having great video quality alone is not really enough for practical video use or we won't be buying bits and pieces to make our dSLR video worthy. The sensor speed on the C300 I think is faster too.
 24.
Yes I know, but do you really think it will out perform their $16k C300?  Doubtful.
I know it can out perform the C300 in DOF, resolution and low light for sure.
 25.
The one company that has nothing to fear about cannibalizing "higher end camera / camcorder products" is Nikon.  They could go all out and have a $6k D4 that gives video shooters everything they desire....but did they?  Why are D4 4:2:2 raw samples not available?  I fear that their dependency on Sony for sensors might limit what they are capable of (even with their own tweaks) video wise.
Canon is making one.
