Sony NEX mirrorless full frame model on the horizon?
xenogears replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
This could mean another new mount? or a E-mount Alpha hybrid as some time SAR sugest? Sony is very aggressive lately, but is folding the world with camera bodies but no lenses. -
I kind of like this camera, but is kind of pricey, if you look for the FS100 can be found at $4000 as Andrew says and in the near future maybe cheaper, and the new lens can be used in the FS100 too, i suppose. Maybe a $3000 retail price is more likely, leaving the VG20 out of the scene, but again, is a nice tool to almost all the 80% video production jobs.

Is not a cheap FS100 is a expensive VG20 ;) But not bad for 80% video productions jobs.

[maker] I'm building a case/housing for NEX, how you want it be?
xenogears replied to foggyflute's topic in Cameras
due to ignorance from forum members I decided to delete the results seeing as people were unable to read it properly and were selectively seeing all the negatives and not taking into account the facts!.
Maybe i didn't express my idea clearly, (english is not my native language) i don't mean to disturb you and i'm very sorry if you take it personally. Is true that my opinion was based on what i read about the Metabones adapter, and i don't know if you publish better results later on, and now has you erased the result test maybe i never know. I been following you work since you first promoted on DVXUser too, and if you can check my comments i always been positive about your work, the only negative fact, with i give you all the rights on this, is the fact the cost of manufacture will be expensive. I even follow your Ebay sale with the hope to find the funds and buy the case to try for my self. richg101, i never put your work or your name on doubt and i really hope in the future with foggyflute can make another great contribution to the independent filmmakers.- 14 replies

The image coming from the Tokina 80-200 latest generation for me is very good, maybe just a little soft at f2.8 but just a little bit, previously i own the Nikon AF 80-200 and is very similar in image to the Tokina, color rendition and sharpness. The Tokina is a tank (literary), i have the Minolta/Sony version because is what i use, mine have 5 years with me and no a single problem. Some reviews: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=237&sort=7&cat=40&page=1 http://www.photographyreview.com/cat/lenses/35mm-zoom/tokina/PRD_84296_3128crx.aspx http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/246/ The Tamron is very good too, but the Tokina building is a lot better.

[maker] I'm building a case/housing for NEX, how you want it be?
xenogears replied to foggyflute's topic in Cameras
Hi foggyflute! The biggest problem to solve is the heat, for what i know the previous case experience do not resolve this problem complety, the hack project has begun, will be nice to see what coming from this, i recommend you to wait for the new Nex cameras, i think this will happen in two weeks. Thanks for share your work, i see the previous post from you on DVXUsers, and not is a lack of interest but more like a kind of caution approach because this kind of project as you express, are expensive, and personally i don't know if the Nex 5n deserve this kind of work because some of the improvements must be to the camera itself. Keep the good work.- 14 replies

I don't have experience with the Tamron, but i can recommend you the Tokina 80-200mm f2.8, the Nikon mount have aperture ring, there's two models one older than the other. Look here for a reference price of the two models. Older: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tokina-AT-X-SD-AF-80-200mm-f-2-8-for-Nikon-Mint-/170895410831?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item27ca29068f Latest: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-fit-Tokina-80-200mm-f2-8-AF-Pro-AT-X-Lens-Used-/200788913717?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item2ebff3ae35 For Canon FD mount can be found too! Good luck.

There's another matte box on Ebay, made of high-grade ABS and aluminum, is cheap and doesn't look so bad, here's the search result on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=Compact+Pro+Matte+Box

I have high hopes on this, even I'm saving for this camera because my birthday (camera is sheduled at October), but Sony has created higher expectations before with disappointing results. I hope the current financial situation pushes them to risk. A new Nex has been rumored between the 5n and the 7, so i will keep on eye on this too.
-
I think this can serve you very well, and is much cheaper than the DFocus. http://www.ebay.com/itm/370632242569?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Beware the Vaporware!
Blackmagic have a solid product track and from a user point of view very reliable products too, much better than others.

Even two weeks maybe is too soon, i hope for a mature product is this mean 1 or 2 months more of waiting. I always believe end of July like a rushed date, this camera is not for everybody, need a good PC/Mac machine to work with those files even for run DaVinci. I don't know why, but i felt a liitle uninformed about this camera, but i really still interested.

Saddly the Pentax to alpha adapter have a glass on it, so the NEX suit better for this.

Mystery camera revealed - Sony NEX 5N in cine housing with cooling mod
xenogears replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
To Richard Gale, some kind of warning. I have been using this Sony CLM-V55 monitor with my Nex 5n and when i have the monitor plugged for several minutes the monitor goes blank even when recording, searching on the web about thisissue and found another user with the same issue, obviously Sony is not good on fix this kind o f thing and less , have you tried the monitor with extended use? I comment you about this, because your are trying to include this monitor with the cooling mod, maybe a SmallHD EVF is more useful here. Is very admirable what are you trying to achieve here, i wish you the best of luck. -
I think I've figured it out, but I don't wanna ruin the surprise ;)
Same here, i already know what is. Hint: is a small body inside, waiting for a Clean hdmi output and a mic input ;) Can be your nex surprise.

Sony to produce first full frame DSLR with 1080/60p and EVF
xenogears replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I always have high hopes on Sony products, but Sony continues to disappoint me, on every launch all is products are some how restricted, i think is for protecting the high end products. I has ordered a SoundDevices Pix 240, If only we can have a A99 with clean HDMI 4:2:2 output i'll be very grateful ;) -
Revealing Sony FS700 field report / video review
xenogears replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I work mostly in postproduction and animation, and the Raw format is a great feature and more at 2.5k for compositing and greenscreen work, but the FS700 is kind of more versatile. Keep the FS100 and get the Blackmagic?, or sell the Fs100 and get the FS700, interesting times ahead. -
Sadly marketing is what rules in people mind...
-
For me in this order: 1.- Fs700, better options, future proof and expandability. Need a external recorder for better green screen work. 2.- Fs100, great for low budget productions, as the FS700 need a external recorder for better green screen work. 3.- BlackMagic Cinema, great as is for green screen work with Raw at 12bit. Small form factor. Need more accessories than Sony FS to make it work at fullest. Cheers.

I know the Pro line from Panasonic work independently to the consumer line as the Lumix, but maybe they kill the AF line for establish a Lumix Pro line with the GH3, weatherproofing, bigger and stronger, the lens that Panasonic show as prototypes point just that. So, the AF maybe can´t compete against Sony FS series but a GH3 Pro can compete against Nikon/Canon/Sony DSLR in video areas. P.D: NAB day 3, i´m still loving the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

I´m mostly a Post-production guy doing 2D/3D animation and video composting, i been using the Nex 5n for small projects and i love it, but this is for me a dream camera, i don´t care too much for the form (is like a Nex 5n on steroids), but in studio production for green screen the 12bit Raw at 2.5k is invaluable, is in no way a run & gun camera, is like the old days of filming, every scene must be planned. By the footage i see no moire or heavy aliasing, this is a very good thing, i see a little shake vibration on some of the scenes, and in other i see something like EF stabilization system working (have high hope on this one). The only negative (if could be called like that) is the small sensor against the S35 or the ASPC, so, for wide shots is a kind of pain in the arse. What could be added: -HMDI for external monitoring (Zacuto EVF, SmallHD 4") -Buttons for faster access of the primary functions, as iso, shutter, aperture, etc.. (nex 7) -XLR audio inputs
