hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Roger at LensRental posted test results from their copy. http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2015/03/slr-magics-50mm-apo-hyperprime-cine-t2-1-mtf-tests -
It may be closer than we realize. There was this rumor from 3 months ago that suggested something was coming at NAB. http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/12/canon-to-target-the-gh4-with-new-dslr-type-cr2/

It looks like we may finally get a AF101 replacement and it should be more than just a GH4 with different body. http://www.43rumors.com/ft4-new-af101-successor-to-be-announced-at-nab-show-has-brand-new-mft-sensor/ "I had a conversation with a Panasonic Rep here in Japan. He told me in the near future there will be an upgrade of the AF 101 camera announced. Newly designed sensor will have an immense dynamic range of up to 15 stops and 4K. Sensor will be a big surprise in unexpected ways. Not sure about the price tag though."

Now this sounds interesting. ttp://photorumors.com/2015/02/20/new-panasonic-video-and-stills-camera-to-be-announced-at-the-2015-nab-show/#more-68168

This promotional video was shot handheld with some scenes done at 300mm. http://www.techradar.com/news/photography-video-capture/cameras/how-good-is-the-olympus-e-m5-mark-ii-s-5-axis-stabilization--1283807 -
dpreview posted a short interview with Samsung. They made an interesting comments related to sensor readout speed that would suggest it can do 4k @ 24p with full sensor readout. http://***URL removed***/articles/7808127857/ces-2015-samsung-interview-mirrorless-to-outsell-dslrs-in-three-years "The sensor readout is very fast - 240 frames per second. For autofocus object tracking we read at 120Hz. We can do full resolution sensor readout at 25 frames per second, and digital signal processing [with a new chip and algorithms] at 15 frames per second. "

A GH4 in your pocket - Panasonic LX100 with 4K and Micro Four Thirds sensor
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
According to Cameralabs the 4k video involved both a crop and scale to get to 4k. Has anyone been able to confirm this? Is moire more prevalent in 4k video vs the GH4? http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Panasonic_Lumix_LX100/ "But bizarrely Panasonic has opted to employ a mild crop and a scale to generate the desired frame size. This means the LX100's 4k footage not only has a slightly narrower field of view to 1080 video and 16:9 stills (so instead of 24mm at the widest zoom, you're getting 26mm), but it also now suffers from moire. I feel it's an unnecessary compromise too, since a nice clean 1:1 crop would have only involved losing 4mm in the diagonal field of view. I put my disappointment to Panasonic and I got the impression the scaling along with absence of Cinelike D profiles was partly for the LX100's target audience and partly to protect the GH4, but I still think a 1:1 crop would have been better, and rather than detract from GH4 sales, I could see existing GH4 owners picking up an LX100 as a B-roll camera. Maybe flat profiles and 1:1 video crops will be offered in future third-party firmware." -
A GH4 in your pocket - Panasonic LX100 with 4K and Micro Four Thirds sensor

I think the pricing of the Leica clone in Europe forced Panasonic to adjust their price. -
It looks like Canon was focusing in a different direction for sensor design. While a stacked sensor would be great for Landscape the sensor readout speed would be way to slow for video (aka Foveon). http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/10/multilayer-sensors-are-coming-from-canon-cr2/

Apparently a first for a full-featured move. This article is the first in series by Adobe about this movie. http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2014/10/gone-girl-marks-yet-another-milestone-for-adobe-premiere-pro-cc.html

Someone posted a video comparison of the LX100 and GH4 but setting details were not provided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfyg0Kjk2DI -
I wonder if this will impact the LX100 as it has Power OIS.

So, it ML can get Raw working it may actually be usable. But this camera likely won't be replaced for another 4-5 years. That is an awful long time to be stuck with this resolution and overall quality.

New Panasonic CM1 smartphone shoots 4K video with Leica lens
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
One site mentioned that CM1 can only do 15 fps in 4k. Likely due to heat. -
Along with 12 or 14 bit support for uncompressed HDMI and improved 96fps 4k slowmotion.

Olympus 'beta tested' 4K firmware for E-M1, developing cine lenses
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Even if the firmware doesn't contain any video improvements at least we now know that Olympus will be taking video more seriously in future models. -
We will know by Monday once Photokina starts.

I think the LX100 is the name for the LX7 replacement. The assumption was that the LX7 replacement would have a 1" sensor like the FZ100 but this rumor form June said otherwise. http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-panasonic-lx8-comes-with-same-1-inch-sensor-as-the-fz1000-specs-roundup/ UPDATE: There was a miscomunictaion between a source and me. The new LX8 will not feature the same 1 inch sensor of the FZ1000!!!! It will be very “differentâ€. Thee are the specs I got so far from another source: - 24-90mm f/2.0-2.8 Leica lens - 3% larger than the LX7 - Swivel touch screen with touch to focus and capture features - Updated processing engine enhancing JPEG output - built in EVF and no hotshoe (just like the Sony RX100m3). - Automatic Lenscap - built-in 3 stop ND filter - 4K recording
-
This is an interesting development. It looks like the LX series is getting a huge upgrade. Based on the previous rumor it will have a fixed zoom equivalent of 24-90mm f2-f2.8. It will be announced next week. http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-panasonic-lx1000-with-43-sensor-and-fixed-zoom-lens-to-be-announced-within-the-next-5-6-days/

43rumors posted the tweet from Aug 13th from a film director and apparently the source for 43rumors is not same person. The funny thing is that Olympus America Favorited his tweet.

Either someone has a good imagination or we are in for big surprise. http://www.43rumors.com/ft3-this-is-the-amazing-list-of-new-features-coming-with-the-next-e-m1-firmware-upgrade/ Firmware update: 4K Recording (IS compatible) High Speed and Slow motion Mode (240p or 120p) New Codec with different recording mode (24p,25p,30p,60p) Motion Film (I don’t know what it is exactly but it has something to do with a freeze picture functionality and choose to move what you want on the picture). They didn’t confirm all yet but about a similar S-log mode than the Sony one but they didn’t talk about it and how it would help grading for the cinema industry. And others stuff that i didn’t have time to check yet. I saw the 4K 24p and 30p mode, they was also other 4K mode but it was already the end of the Beta test. For sure this new update firmware doesn’t add anything, Olympus confirm 2 times that it was already there but not ready to be release because they needed to fix few issues. They add also new functionality for the pictures mode but i was not interested, only the video part. It’s possible that they release the new firmware by the end of this month.
