Cinema5D did a first look at the A7. http://***URL not allowed***/news/?p=22066 -
It is Interesting to see that the C100 came with the Dual-Pixel technology before the 70D. So Canon is now charging $500 for a firmware upgrade. I guess this is where they expect to make their profits.

Shot to shot times are currently 4s with JPEG. What will they be with 41mp RAW images?

Surprise! New Sony RX10 sensor has 5K full pixel readout
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Very interesting decision by Sony. I wonder if there is a recording limit? http://www.newsshooter.com/2013/10/17/sony-rx10-a-video-journalists-delight/ "Great news, Sony’s Kanta Yamamoto has been in touch to say that the RX10 is actually PAL/NTSC region switchable" -
A look at the new video features of the new Sony A7, A7R and RX10

The D5200 used a Toshiba sensor. It looks like the D5300 is now using the D7100 sensor which has no AA filter. So don't expect similar results to the D5200. -
Surprise! New Sony RX10 sensor has 5K full pixel readout
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
At dpreview they also mentioned some of the enhancements to video such as clean HDMI output with the option of uncompressed 4:2:2. I hope the next RX100 replacement will also have this new processor. It would be amazing to have a camera with so many capabilities that could fit in your pocket. http://***URL removed***/previews/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx10/4 -
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Review - Part 1 - Worth the hype?
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Interesting comments from a beta tester on the cooling system and how it impacts battery usage. "it uses a Peltier effect or thermoelectric cooling system to maintain consistent sensor temperature.." "So on a hot day when the camera is struggling to dissipate heat through the chasis it will use more power to maintain the sensor temperature. This is also the case with the larger BMCC..." -
It can also do time-lapse videos at 4k (3840 x 2160). I couldn't find any more details on this feature.

New Olympus E-M1 with "moire reduction" but no 24p
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Not going to happen according to Olympus. http://www.bestmirrorlesscamerareviews.com/2013/09/18/the-om-d-e-m1-new-pro-lenses-and-2014-an-interview-with-olympus-europe/ "We are concentrating on priority matters, specifically establishing nice still image quality. This is our priority as a camera manufacturer and our reputation on the market is for still. So, that’s one of the reasons. But there is another matter because even if we go in the direction of video, Panasonic already has really nice MFT cameras for video. We like to show the total possibility of the entire MFT line-up, and if we start to focus on video capabilities, it may be misleading to the market. They may think that MFT is only suitable for video and we don’t want to give that impression." -

LL posted this video from the E-M1. http://vimeo.com/74801884 -
It should be tagged "GH5" as they will skip the '4' as usual. :)

For those interested, here is the official response from Fuji related to 'blooming' from their X10 camera. A sensor fix is the only way to permanently resolve this issue. https://www.fujifilmusa.com/support/ServiceSupportProductContent.do?dbid=881329&prodcat=234644&sscucatid=664262

Looks like the E-M1 will have a Mic input. I wonder if Olympus made improvements to video. Olympus will also be announcing a 12-40mm f2.8 and 40-150mm f2.8 at the same time as the E-M1 in 2 weeks. And based in an initial user report it looks like all of the lenses from Olympus's 43 line, when used with the E-M1, will focus as fast or faster than on their existing DSLR. http://***URL removed***/forums/post/52065277

News round-up including a look at the 70D's image quality
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Planet 5D posted their initial impressions of the 70D. Lot of Moire/Aliasing. I guess this should not be a surprise but this sensor will likely be used for the next 3-4 years so still disappointing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exv3H325LQk -
Looks like Panasonic is downsampling differently with this sensor than the one from the G6. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/panasonic-gx7/panasonic-gx7A.HTM "Panasonic says that the better image sensor means that it need only bin four pixels to create each pixel in the final movie, rather than six pixels as in the G6. The mixing is performed in 1 x 4 pixel lines, rather than 2x2 blocks, and the image processor performs low-pass filtering on the resulting data as it comes off-chip."

News round-up including a look at the 70D's image quality
hoodlum replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Looks like it may be based on the same basic sensor technology at the 7D, except that they've added Dual Pixel AF. I guess they are hoping this will buy them a few more years until the next upgrade. There is even a FF mule out there with the same AF technology. It is looking less and less like the 7D replacement will see any significant improvement in video or RAW. -
Although not the greatest for testing, you can be download some 1080p50 videos from here. http://www.dkamera.de/news/preview-sony-cyber-shot-dsc-rx100-ii-beispielaufnahmen/

Looks like the sensor design hasn't change much as Canon Says the RAW output noise level is the same as the 60D. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/canon-70d/canon-70dA.HTM We've already mentioned the new image sensor from the standpoint of autofocus, but it's worth noting that its resolution has been increased slightly over that of the Canon 60D. With size unchanged, that results in a smaller pixel pitch, but Canon says it has also increased the active imaging area of the sensor slightly, from 14.9 x 22.3 to 15.0 x 22.5mm. That, coupled with a switch to a new DIGIC 5+ image processor, leads the company to predict noise levels that are roughly on par with the lower-res 60D for raw shooting. JPEG shooters, promises Canon, will see a "huge improvement" in image quality.

The 1.3 crop mode works with video which gives a 2x crop (15.4mp) compared to FF. The 51 AF points will cover most of the image in 1.3 crop mode. The OVF also has an OLED overlay for displaying information. Also, just to clarify the D7100 has 'no AA filter' while the D800E still had the filter but had a cancelling out one as well. So we should see more of a detail advantage but more acceptable to moire too.
