It looks like Olympus might beat Panasonic to market with a built-in ND filter. Now this would be surprising. https://www.43rumors.com/ft5-the-olympus-e-m1x-also-has-a-live-nd-filter/

Someone in the comments today mentioned that it will support 4k 120p based on information from someone who has the camera. There is no mention if this involves a crop.
-
I would think Panasonic would start with a 4k 12mp GH6s to reduce the demand on processing 8k. There will be enough heat generated from the sensor alone. This would also further separate the GH6 from the GH6s.

What are you talking about? The article lists the 2 products they will come out with next year. 8K Multipurpose Camera AK - SHB 810 is a compact, lightweight, box - type camera that uses a PL lens mount. Equipped with 8K organic sensor which will be the first in the world... 8K / 4K / HD video output is possible from the camera unit and the image processing unit AK - SHU 810 connected with optical fiber cable...

The is a development announcement with Fall 2019 launch. As expected Panasonic introduced the Organic sensor as a high end product. It will be interesting to hear more details. https://photorumors.com/2018/10/27/panasonic-announced-the-development-of-the-worlds-first-8k-organic-sensor-and-8k-camera-system/

Lots of good information from ZM in the comments. I would be interested in reading the paper where he got this information. It is very sad that Sony has no competition. "The details of the NX500/NX1 sensor are revealed in Samsung's IISW 2015 paper and it's just jaw dropping: 28MP/25FPS/14bit/700+mW power consumption/65nm technology (Sony stays in 90nm until now)."

Panasonic announces the 10-25mm f/1.7 Micro Four Thirds Lens!

The Panasonic rep mentions dual IS after 3:30 in this video. https://youtu.be/RlKGhYvpDc0 -
I have been wondering when we would see a stacked sensor in something larger than the RX series. I wonder if Sony will preserve this tech for their own cameras like they have done with the RX series.

My guess is that 4k is cropped and the lower 24mp allows for less of a crop.

Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???
hoodlum replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
And some Sigma lenses will only be available on the L-mount. -
Here is one video taken at 4k60p. I'd be interested in seeing how 4k24p with the Extended Dynamic Range compares.

This is likely why sony announced only one lens this week and is leaving the other announcements until after Photokina. -

Looks like it will have IBIS. https://www.l-rumors.com/l5-on-sept-25-panasonic-will-annonce-the-development-of-two-ff-cameras-and-three-ff-lenses/ 1) Entry level Full Frame L-mount camera with IBIS, 4k60p and Low Resolution Sensor 2) Pro level Full Frame L-mount camera with IBIS, 4k60p and High Resolution Sensor (close to 50MP) 3) New Full Frame 24-70mm zoom lens 4) New Full Frame 50mm fast prime 5) New Full Frame 70-200mm zoom prime -
Panasonic announcing a full frame camera on Sept. 25???

I think Sigma saw the writing on the wall with the closed Z and R mounts. Re-engineering the logic for Canon and Nikon's mount from scratch will not be easy. -

I guess this mean guaranteed support of Sigma lenses for this mount including existing e-mount lenses. -
I did see one comment where Extended Dynamic Range is provided in video up to 30fps. I have not seen any details on how this is accomplished. There are also now 4 mics that record stereo in video.

I came across these details on how the Camera HDR works. Maybe we see this implemented for video one day. https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/a23107145/iphone-xs-xr-photos-camera-depth-control-smart-hdr/ iPhone users will have noticed a tag on photos that says "HDR" —it means High Dynamic Range, a process where, when you press the shutter button, the phone captures several frames simultaneously, then merges elements from each one into a single image (a good shadow from one, skin texture from another). The new Smart HDR captures four frames, plus four more in between those frames at a different exposure. The iPhone will also take a separate long-exposure to grab bright color elements.

These new features do remind me of my Google Pixel and based on past experience I expect Apple to implement it well. I never understood the desire for the telephoto lens if we are giving up so much in sensor area and lens speed. Also, some of the more advanced photo features are only available with the main camera.

It looks like Apple finally provided a major upgrade to it's main camera. The sensor size was increased from 1/3" (used since the 5s) to 1/2.55" which is similar to most android phones, while keeping the lens aperture at f1.8. They also mentioned the sensor is twice as fast as the previous iphone X, which should improve quality of the 4k and slo-mo. Apple has a new "Smart HDR" mode which brings a few photos of different exposure together. The way it does that is constantly shoot a four-frame buffer, with different exposures, so that the second you hit the shutter lens, it’s already got all the information it needs for a full HDR image. This is just the start of the computational race as the AI engine becomes the main focus going forward. Apple's Neural engine went from 2 cores to 8 cores with an 8 times increase in processing power. I could see this processor overtaking the main processor and GPU over the next few years. It doesn't look like the telephoto camera was updated which begs the question if it is really needed. The wide angle sensor has a one stop faster lens and the 1/3.6" sensor from the telephoto is likely almost 1 stop worse. I am not even sure if the HDR mode is available with the Telephoto lens. Cropping from the wide angle camera may give similar result to the telephoto camera, which make the XR a good choice if you are only interested in the camera upgrade. The XR only looses OLED screen (Liquid Retina LCD instead) and telephoto camera. This major upgrade was long over due. Apple has done well with their previous substandard sensor so I am looking forward to the reviews over the coming weeks.

I doubt that the Organic sensor is ready yet, but we will find out in 3 weeks. What if Blackmagic were to formally support this new FF mount? -

If it was a cinema camera they wouldn't announce it at photokina. We will find out early next week -
The lens is also the same so that would mean no ND filter. It looks like the only change we will see is the update to the 20mp (16mp effective) sensor and a more current processor. My bet is that it will not get 4k60p. This could have been done 2 years ago.

It looks like we may have more phone using a similar stack sensor from Sony. https://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201807/18-060E/index.html Tokyo, Japan—Sony Corporation today announced the upcoming release of the IMX586 stacked CMOS image sensor for smartphone cameras. The new sensor features 48 effective megapixels*2, the industry’s highest pixel count.*1 The new product achieved a world-first*3 ultra-compact pixel size of 0.8 μm, making it possible to pack 48 effective megapixels*2 onto a 1/2-type (8.0 mm diagonal) unit, thereby supporting enhanced imaging on smartphone cameras. The new sensor uses the Quad Bayer color filter array, where adjacent 2x2 pixels come in the same color, making high-sensitivity shooting possible. During low light shooting, the signals from the four adjacent pixels are added, raising the sensitivity to a level equivalent to that of 1.6 μm pixels (12 megapixels), resulting in bright, low noise images. In addition to these advantages, original Sony exposure control technology and signal processing functionality are built into the image sensor, enabling real-time output and a superior dynamic range four times greater than conventional units. Even scenes with both bright and dark areas can be captured with minimal highlight blowout or loss of detail in shadows.

Apparently there is no OIS on the main camera and EIS is only supported up to 1080p30. While you could take a crop of the 4k video, theis seems limiting for out of the camera footage.
