I am always torn/confused to the benefits/disadvantages of using short and/or longer GOPS. I understand that long GOPs, around 12/15 with IPB frames are best for static shots and lower GOPS are better for motion...but how static is static and how much movement is classed as motion?   I film head shots...interviews...weddings etc and most of my 'movement' happens within the frame of a stable non moving camera. Rarely would I do pans or handheld shots but at weddings and similar events there is still a lot of motion going on within the frame.   with this in mind would this be classed as static shooting?...therefore more suitable to longer GOPs or is any movement, inside the frame or from the camera itself better suited to shorter GOPs?

Based on this topic I have just ran this quick test.   The first 10 seconds is ISO 160 and the other 10 seconds is ISO 640. In my opinion 640 looks good but its alot 'busier' noise than that of 160...I turned up the gain and gamma to show the noise more clearly on the PC unit. This test was carried out with the GH2 ISO Bug in mind, meaning that I selected each ISO by first selecting the ISO an increment above it first and then selecting downwards.   https://vimeo.com/60165118

Morning all   I am interested in the above lens to go with my Sony NEX 5N. I emailed slrmagic in Hong Kong abut price and they quoted in would cost $279 (normally $349 with $70 instant rebate) and this includes shipping. This cost is around £177 Pounds sterling   The only official UK reseller of this lens is ukdigital.co.uk and they have it listed priced at £299 with a £50 rebate meaning total price is still £250   So bar the risk of important taxes and duty am I not better off getting the lens from HK? I have used a simply import duty calculator and if I do have to pay (sometimes they slip through!) it would still only be arounf £45 which would still make the lens cheaper than if bought from the UK!   Anyone have an experience with import duties buying from SLR Magic in HK to the UK in the past?

I have had a play with numerous profiles on the RX100 since my purchase last year. To be honest I have not seen much difference using a flat profile compared to a standard profile when it comes to grading. I am not planning to use this lens wide open in the day time...but I am looking at using the 1.4 in evening scenes when in doors.

What makes you say that may I ask?...do you not feel the lack of oss would be a major issue?

Morning all   I am looking to purchase one of the two lenses for a wedding I am shooting in June. The SEL35F18 is priced around £350-£400 and the SLR around £200 less at £177.   I always use manual focus so autofocus on the SEL35F18 is not important to me. What is and has always been important though is OSS which obviously the SLR magic does not have.   I am thinking though that the other benfits of this lens (price, faster lens) outweighs the image stabilisation problem and as long as I use a mono pod tripod/dolly/slider/steady-cam with this lens then the lack of OSS will not be an issue.   Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

In both cases I was not too happy with the motion blur, It just does not look as good as shooting either natively at 25p at 1/50 or 50p 1/100 for slow mo in a 25p timeline.[/background][/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Tahoma, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=3][background=rgb(238, 238, 238)] Based on the above I think you have to make a decision before you shoot any footage at 50p that is to be used in a 25p timeline. That decision is to whether your footage is going to be slowed down in post or not. Morning all! I am loving my NEX 5N and am mainly using it to shoot video. I have the 18-55 kit lens and also have purchased 4 manual lenses, these are: Konica AR 40MM 1.8 Konica AR 50MM 1.7 Fujian CCTV 25MM 1.7 Canon FD 50MM 1.8 I use all these lenses for video to allow better low light shooting and shallower depth of field. What I am not noticing though is much quality difference in the footage from one lens to another. The fujain is obviously a cheap toy lens and has a poor focus plane and blurred edges wide open but the rest of the lens shoot pretty much the same quality footage. My question i suppose is long term is it worth me investing in similar lenses like the Voigtlander 35mm 1.4 (which is more expensive) if the actual video footage quality it outputs is the same? I understand such a lens at 1.4 would again give me shallower DOF and better low light footage but apart from that would I see a general overal quality difference that would justify the price tag? The other main problem I have is that with the NEX-5N all these manual lenses don't offer in built stabilization which the kit lens does, so hand held footage is very shaky without a steady hand or tripod. Are there other third party lenses out there that have in built stabilization that I could implement into my collection? Thanks in advance! Lee
