going wider?

Yup. The century type anamorphics I've used with a 20mm Panasonic lens on a gh2 without vignetting. Wide angle converters look like crap in front of a wide lens. I've used them on front of a Tokina 11-16mm and looks awful. http://vimeo.com/40552806
  2. I got stuck in Ottawa, Canada while waiting for the U.S. Embassy to change my visa a few months ago (it was awful, but that is a whole other story) I decided to try out the CM Night patch and see if it was any good. It was the first ridiculously high bitrate patch I used. It is spectacular as it turned out :D Almost all of the footage is 1600-3200 ISO and obviously no noise reduction as it was a test. Also wanted to test my setup at f2.8. Worked well. But I've sold my Eiki. Hopefully someone finds this useful when deciding to buy an anamorphic attachment. 3. This is my favorite canon prime. It has fantastic bokeh.
  4. Whoa! You got it! Screw might be this according to Wikipedia: "The first was the inclusion of a small grub screw which could be adjusted to allow closer focusing. Unfortunately, the resultant image quality is very soft, and there are also extremely high levels of edge fringing, making the hack unsuitable for conventional video and still image capture.[6] "
  5. Haven't been to the forum in a while. I used to have an exact anamorphic adapter like this. https://plus.google.com/photos/115531352452573112063/albums/5738666178176187921/5738666486454606978 https://plus.google.com/photos/115531352452573112063/albums/5738666178176187921/5738666184145723042 This is pretty sweet. Focus thru on the cheap. Plus it's 1.33x (roughly) Shot some footage using this on a GH2 and a 20mm f1.7 lumix and put it on vimeo. No vignette even at 20mm. Nice flares and easy to use. As usual edges not too nice but if you get lucky you get a sharper anamorphic than a lot of other people seem to get.
  6.
Aesthetic preferences aside... If you were to sell your GH2 for $500 (a conservative estimate for the going price on eBay by the time the GH3 hits shelves) and bought a new GH3, what would $800 get you? What you are gaining with the GH3:

72Mbit ALL-Codec -- stable out of the box, unlike some hacks
1080P 60 frames shooting mode
Finer and more evenly-distributed noise/grain
No banding -- from the footage that has been released, so far so good
Easier workflow -- drag-and-drop directly onto your timeline, regardless of editing platform
Better, more intuitive interface -- already apparent from the photos from Photokina
Better ergonomics right out of the box -- this should actually fit in your adult-sized hand
Magnesium alloy, weather-sealed body -- it's nice to have, but only some of us really need this
Headphone jack -- Andrew is reporting delayed audio monitoring... how useful is that going to be?
Faster autofocus
What you are losing with the GH3:

Minimal moire and aliasing -- it's back, but is it here to stay?
Multi-aspect sensor -- some people prefer this
Virtual library of hacks/settings (though this may come later with the GH3)
(Please feel free to add to this list as I am sure that I have omitted some of the differences). Is this the best way to spend $800? Personally, I have not made up my mind yet. I have the GH3 and BMCC on pre-order just to get in line, but sticking with the GH2 for another year may not be a bad move either. I am still trying to weigh the pros and cons as more information is becoming available.
Stop thinking too much. Get the GH3 then sell me your GH2 for $450. We both win!
  7. Crap. The zoom is $1500. And I was so looking forward to getting one!
  8. Ok.... I posted my quick 'but is it 4:2:2' comment during work. Didn't expect to see a whole discussion. Also wanted to know if it's 10 bit. I wasn't being sarcastic with the question. Just wanted to know if it was 422 10bit. I left the 10bit out but just snuck a quick comment while working:) I'll just wait for the camera specs next week:D Enjoyed the discussion on 420 vs 422 though:D
  9. I got an excellent eiki 16f. It's sharp even at f2.8. Even f2 looks good. Anyway, selling it on ebay no reserve, starting bid is 99 cents. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eiki-16f-with-Redstan-Clamps-and-1-B-W-diopter-Anamorphic-lens?item=261096949513&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D1974107703158358908#ht_500wt_1361 Shot a video with this a while back. http://vimeo.com/39679993
  10. I guess you could use a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 plus a Tokina 16-50mm and you'd have a 25mm-115mm fullframe equivalent using 2 fast enough zooms.
  11. 2-3 cameras just looked awful like camera D. But the rest were pretty ok on Vimeo. I wish there was at least a way to download at least a nice 1080p version of the footage. I'm guessing gh2 is camera B!
  12. I've used driftwood cy canis majoris Night. Works well until about iso 1600 for me. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/3056/driftwood-vy-canis-majoris-night-day-pm-skin-tone-soft...-more-to-come/p1 Some video of a guy using the same patch at iso 1250 https://vimeo.com/41605335
  13. @quickhitrecord tell me how that experiment goes! I was very close to buying a defective canon ef 50mm off Craigslist which I planned to saw off and glue a stepup ring to the sawed off lens. This Pixco is a much better solution:D
  14. What exactly do you mean by "they have not looked correct?"
  15. Very interesting.... I should test this out and give it a shot..
  16. Thanks dude! When are going out to shoot? I'm flying to canada tuesday and combing back saturday. I have 6 weeks of free time!
  17. Does anyone know of a cheap monitor with peaking that does automatic tretching of anamorphic images from GH2? thanks.

  19. Maybe the Mir-24m or Mir-24n would be good. Haven't tried those yet but they appear to look good and have round bokeh because they have 10 blades. Mir-24n (the nikon mount) is way cheaper than the Mir-24m (m42 mount) for some strange reason. sample video to show you the way it looks and the bokeh. https://vimeo.com/11640891
  20. According to your link its a 2x stretch.
  21. Yep. You read it correctly. This is the one and only Tokina Achromat +0.4 diopter. I got this a month ago but have to sell stuff as I need money :) have not used this on a shoot. Just tested it out twice and put it back in box Will let it go for $185. These go for $240++ on redstan.com (which is whom I bought it from) Review here: http://www.eoshd.com/content/396/the-anamorphic-miracle-filter
  22. I think the 7d would work great with anamorphic but there is a lot of color grading going on in the video which I think some people will like and some people won't like:D It's a matter or taste I guess. I did notice however that you did not stretch out the anamorphic footage to the correct ratio. Was this on purpose? Seems to me some footage was on an anamorphic lens and some were taken without the adapter?
